Description

Sept. 27, 1932. 6 Q R 1,879,489
WRITER S RING Filed March 4, 1931 a eoflwgmvawron ATTORNEY fatented Sept. 27, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GROVER C. BAY, OF BISIBEE, ARIZONA WRITER'S RING Application filed March 4, 1931. Serial No. 520,111.
10 free hand may be employed for taking down and displaying goods, for turning pages of books or manuscripts and for other purposes, the pencil being readily returned by the hand upon which it is arranged to writing position.
To the attainment of this and other ends the invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination of elements hereinafter described and more particularly set forth in the claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device in applied position.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the improvement, parts being in section.
Figure 3 is a sectional view approximately on the line 8-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a plan view showing the pencil swung transversely over the fingers of the user.
As disclosed by the drawing the improvement comprises a finger ring 1. To the ring there is pivoted, as at 2, one end of the curved or arched plate 3. The arched plate 3 is preferably of spring metal but may be of other material that embodies an inherent resilience. The curved or arched plate 3 has its outer end straight and the edges of the said straight portion are integrally formed with a split U-shaped clip 4: designed to engage a pencil In the showing of the drawing the arched element 3, which I have termed the plate, is really in the nature of a rod and has its pivoted end widened, and the split U-shaped clip is centrally secured to the outer and straight end of the said rod. The ring is arranged on the forefinger of the user, as disclosed by Figures 1 and I of the drawing, and the ring is turned to permit of the pencil 5 being properly gripped by the thumb, index and one of the middle fingers of the user. When not required for use I the thumb of the user is lowered or brought away from the pencil, a pressure of the forefinger is then exerted on the pencil, causing the same to glide over the thumb and to be arranged transversely over the fingers of the users hand. When in this position the pencil does not interfere with or impede the movements of the hand or fingers,
but the pencil by the pressure of the thumb thereagainst can be again readily brought to writing position.
The simplicity and advantages of the im provement will, it is thought, he understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art to which the invention relates so that further detailed description will not be required. It is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the precise construction illustrated and that departures may be made therefrom providing such changes fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having described the invention, I claim:
A device for the purpose set forth, a finger ring, an arched resilient element having one end pivotally secured to the finger ring, and a split spring pencil engaging clamp on the second end of the arched element.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GROVER C. RAY.
