IMPROVEMENT IN MOSQUITO NETS AND CANOPIES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1884275, dated March 13,1877; application filed December 7, 176.

To all whom it may concem:

Be it known that I, ALBERT R. BAKEB, of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Adjustable Mosquito Oanopies or Nets, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to certain improvements in the construction and arrangement and operation of my mosquito-canopy, which was passed -for issue November 8, 1876, in which patent my invention consisted of attaohing one, two, or more framesupon hinged or swivel bearings in such a manner as to be adjustable, as in covering a bed, and capable of being folded up when not in use. And my invention now consists of the devices attached to the head-board, whereby I am enabled to support the canopy-frames more readily, allowing them to be removable at will; also the attachment to the head-board of a tube, in which operates a weight by means of' a'cord, that counterbalances the canopy-frames and allows them to be elevated or depressed at will, and to hold the frames at any desired point, either folded up or down; also, in the adj ustable foot-board bracket, which is hinged to the lower frame, and arranged to rest on the foot-board at any required angle; also, in the Construction of the canopy-frames, whereby their corners are strengthened by means of angle-tubes or elbows, all of which will be hereinafter fully described, and set forth in the claims.

Figure 1 represents a sectional View of a bedstead, showing the arrangement of parts as now improved. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the lower canopy-frame.

A, B, G, and D represent the side rails, head, and foot board of an ordinary bed. To the head-board E, in front, is secured two uprights, D, by loops a a, in such amanner as to allow the uprights to be readily removed when required. The upper ends of these uprights D are provided with a slot, L, in which the canopy-frame O P can be inserted or removed at will. At the rear of the head-board E is also Secured a tube, F J, in such a manner as to be removed readily when required. At the upper end of the tube F J, in a recess cut out in front, is located a sheave, H, over which the cord K operates with the weight G, attached to the end in the tube J, as shown. The

other end of the cord K is secured to the eye.

S, which in turn is seeured to the hook R, at the front of canopy-frame O P 0 as shown, thus allowing the frame 0 P 0 to be raised or lowered at will. vented from falling too far down by a screw or stud secured in bar O, and Operating in a slot formed in the uprights D in the same manner as 'in my patent already allowed. The caopy-frames O P O and O P O are united together by the same devices as shown in my patent already allowed. At the lower end of canopy-frame O P 0 near its midlength, is a hinge-joint composed of the T- shaped sockets T and T', as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. .The socket T has two ears, d d, in which the bar O operates, and a socket above to receive the end of the center-bar P The soeketT also clasps the bar 0 and has the bar P inserted in its socket, all arranged so as to allow the bar l? and curved piece V to be adjustable, and to rest on the t'ootboard B, as shown in Fig. 1.

The frames O P 0 and O P O are each held firmly together at their c'orners by angle tubes or elbows W, which gives them great strength. This is necessary, owing to the light material (wood) that is used in the frames.

I do not, broadly, claim any of the features claimed in my patent that has just been allowed, and my claims, as hereunto annexed, refer Strictly to the inprovements above described. v

What I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In combination with the head-board E of a bed, a tube, F, arranged to operate in the manner set forth and described.

2. In combination with the head-board E of a bed, the uprights D, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as set forth and described.

3. In combination with the head-board E of a bed, the canopy-frames O P O O P 0 uprights D, tube F J, cord K, and weight Gr, arranged to operate substantially as set forth and described.
