ADVERTISING CARRIER Application filed June 5, 1930. Serial No. #553,405.

This invention relates to advertising carriers or enclosing devices for pamphlets, booklets and the like articles.

I An object of this invention is to provide a 5 carrier of the character described adapted for both first and third and fourth class mailing, having improved sealingmeans which may be easily opened as for instance, for the purpose of postal inspection when using 10 the carrier for third class mailing, said carrier moreover being adapted for easy and convenient resealing. V

A further object of this invention is to provide a neat, compact and durable carrier of 5 the character described comprising a mailing wrapper or folder of simple construction, which shall be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and practical and eflicient to a high degree in use.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of ele- 5 ments, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims. In the accompanying drawing, in which 30 is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,

Referring now in detail to the drawing, designates an advertisement carrier or enclosing device embodying the invention 0 here shown in the form of a mailing folder having an envelope portion 11 adapted to contain a pamphlet, booklet or the like merchandise, samples or printed matter and a cover extension 12 adapted to be folded over the front face of said envelope portion.

Said carried 10 may be made of a single piece of cut and creased sheet material forming a blank B shown in Fig. 2. Said blank B comprises a central rectangular section 13 of any suitable size, forming the back of'the envelope 11. Extending from a creased side edge 14 of said section 13, is a section 15 substantially of the same size as said section 13, and having a curved cut out portion 16 adjacent one end thereof. Adjacent the outer edge 17 of said section 15, there is provided a thin layer 18 of paste, glue or other adhesive material, said layer preferably terminating as at 19, short of the end portion 20 of said section 15, to leave an unpasted or free portion 18a, for the purpose hereinafter appearing. Said section 15 is foldable over a section 13 and attached thereto by means of said adhesive layer 18 adjacent the creased edge portion 22 of said section 13 opposite the creased line 14. Said section 15, it will be understood, forms the front face of said envelope portion 11.'

Extending from an end creased edge portion 2 1 of said section 13 is a flap 25 havin a layer 26 of glue, paste or other suitable a hesive material, and foldable about said edge 24, over the front face of the envelope 11 for attachment thereto. Extending from the end creased edge portion 27 a of said section 13, opposite the creased line 24, is a flap 27 foldable over the open end of the envelope and forming a closure for said end. It will be noted that by reason of the unattached portion 18a of the front face 15, insertion of the pamphlet, booklet or the like matter into the envelope is facilitated, said unattached portion being foldable somewhat away from the back of the envelope to permit said insertion. v

For the purpose hereinafter appearing, the closure flap 27 is preferably substantially rectangular in shape and is hence provided with an end edge portion 28, disposed, when said flap is in folded position, adjacent said creased edge portion 14.

Extending from said creased edge portion 22 of said portion 13, is said cover extension 12 adapted to be folded over the front face of the envelope 11. Said extension 12 is provided with a layer 30 of glue or the like adhesive material. The layer 30 is so disposed that when the cover extension 12 is in folded position, said layer 30 will overlap the folded closure flap 27 so that the glue or the like adhesive material may be pasted to said edge portion 28 of the closure flap as well as to the edge portion of the front face of the envelope. The cover extension thus serves to attach said closure flap 27 to the envelope portion 11.

It will now be understood that when the carrier 10 is used for mailing purposes, the pamphlet, booklet, merchandise, sample or the like articles may be inserted within the carrier, the closure flap then folded into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and the cover extension then folded over the front face of the envelope and pasted to said front face, by moistening the layer 30, and to the closure flap 27. The carrier may then be used for either first or third and fourth class mailing, the single pasting operation of the adhesive layer 30 serving to seal the end closure flap 27 as well as to retain the cover extension in covering or closed position.

The carrier 11 however may likewise be used forthird or fourth class mailing, the same lending itself to easy inspection by postal authorities. For opening the carrier for the purpose of ins ection, it is merely necessary to insert a underneath an end of the cover extension and to run the finger or instrument along the same for breaking the seal.

After inspection, the contents may be reinserted within the carrier and the closure flap and cover extension folded. The carrier may then be again sealed by means of a paster 31 which is foldable over the side edge of the folded carrier as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing.

Although the carrier is herein described as being particularly adapted for mailing purposes, it will be understood that the device is not limited to such use, the same being also adapted for hand to hand delivery as for example, over the counter and the like uses.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the condtions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments nlight be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the ac nger or instrument companying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. As an article of manufacture, a carrier made from a single piece of sheet material and comprising a rear section, a front section extending from one side edge of said rear section and integrally formed therewith, and foldable over said rear section, and attached by means of adhesive at the outer edge thereof to the opposite side of said rear section, a flap extending from one end of said rear section foldable over said front section and attached thereto by adhesive, a flap extending from the opposite end of said rear section foldable over said front section, a cover section extending from the opposite side edge of said rear section foldable over said front section and folded flaps and an adhesive strip on the said cover section adapted to overlie said folded flaps and front section for attaching said front section to said second flap.

A carrier made of a single blank of sheet material having a rear section, a front secton extending from one side edge of said rear section, and foldable over the front face of said rear section, a strip of adhesive at the outer side edge of said front section, for attaching said edge of said front section to the opposite edge of said rear section, a flap extending from one end of said. rear section foldable over said folded front section, a strip of adhesive on said flap for attaching the same to said front section to form an en velope closed on three sides and open at one end thereof, a cover section extending-from said opposite side of said rear'section foldable over said folded front section and flap, and a strip of adhesive at the outer side edge of said cover section for attaching the same to said folded front section, the strip of adhesive on said front section terminating short of the open end of the envelope.

A carrier made of a single blank of sheet material having a rear section, a front section extending from one side edge of said rear section and foldable over the front face of said rear section, a strip of adhesive at the outer side edge of said front section for attaching said edge of said front section to the opposite side of said rear section, a flap extending from one end of said rear section foldable over said folded front section, a strip of adhesive on said flap for attaching the same to said front section to form an envelope closed on three sides and open at one end thereof, a cover section extending from said opposite side of said rear section foldable over said folded front section and flap,

a strip of adhesive at the outer side edge of taching said edge of said front section to the serving as a closure for the open end of said envelope and foldable over the folded front section, the strip of adhesive on said cover section being adapted to overlie said folded closure flap for attaching the same to said front section.

4:. A carrier made of a single blank of sheet material having a rear section, a front section extending from one side edge of said rear section, andfoldable over the front face of said rear section, a strip of adhesive at the outer side edge of said front section for atopposite side of said rear section, a flap extending from one end of said rear SGCtlOIl' foldable over said folded front section, a strip of adhesive on said flap for attaching the same to said front section to form an envelope closed on three sides and open at one end thereof, a cover section extending from said opposite side of said rear section foldable over'said folded front section and flap, a strip of adhesive at the outer side edge of said cover section for attaching the same to said folded front section, a flap extending from the opposite end of said rear section serving as a closure for the open end of said envelope and foldable over the folded front section,

the strip of adhesive on said cover section being adapted to overlie said folded closurefiap for attaching the same to said front section,

and a paster disposed about the folded edge formed by folding the front section over t e rear section, and the outer free side edge of the cover section.

A carrier made of a single blank of sheet material having a rear section, a front section extending from one side edge of said rear section and foldable over the front face of said rear section, a strip of adhesive at the outer side edge of said front section for attaching said edge of said front section to the opposite side of said rear section, a flap ex tending from one end of said rearsection foldable over said folded front section, a strip of adhesive on said fiap for-attaching the same to said front section to form an envelope closed on threesides and open at one end thereof, a cover section extending from said opposite side of said rear section foldable over said folded fropt section and flap, and a strip of adhesive at the outer side edge of said cover section for attaching the same to said folded front section, said adhesive strip being all on the same surface of saidsheet.
