` My invention relates to commodity display cabinets and refers particularly todisplay cabinets adapted for `the ready removal of commodities. i It is desirable that commodity display cabinets beso constructed that commodities may be readily removed therefrom, that further commodities be `automatically displayed for removal after the removal of the exposed 'lo one, or ones, and that the device be attractive in appearance.
All of the above mentioned, and other, desirable features are present in the device ofmy invent-ion, in which one commodity, or more, as desired, is exposed for ready r'emoval and in which upon the removal of one commodity, or more, an equal number of commodities automatically fills the spaces caused by such removal, and in which, therefore, there is a constant exposure of removable commodities.
The novelty and usefulness of the device of my invention are evident upon consideration of theaccompanying drawings`illus trating one form of the device of my invention, 'and in which similar parts are designated by similar numerals;
Figure 1 is a top plan view of one form of the device of my invention. f
Figure 2 is a front view of the device of Figure'l; A
Figure 3 is a section through the line 3-3 of Figure 1. Figure 4 is a. section through the line 4--4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a cross section through one of the partition members. Y i
The particular form of the device of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings consists of two outer side :wall members, 10 and 11, supported by thetwo base feet 12 and 13, respectively.
Fixedly attached to the two sides v10 and 11 are a plurality of vertically spaced platforms l14, y 15 and 16 and supported by the cross bars 17, 18, 19 and 20, respectively. The platforms 14, 15 and 16 are in parallel planes and are positioned at inclined angles to thebase feet 12,113, each platform being of less width than `the platform below it,
thus formmg a series ofsteps.-
A plurality of inverted T-shaped partition members, each having the uprightmember 21 andl the vlower headplate 22, forming 55 a base, are fixedly carried by the platforms 14, 15 and 16-V in uniformly laterally spaced relation to eachother, and to the sidewalls 10 and 11, thus forming a plurality of compartments.` w I f The forward end ofv eachl T-shaped member extends beyond the forward edge of the platform upon which it rests and has the base of thisforward end upturned as at 23. .Each end portion of the platforms 14, 15 and 65' 16 carries a fixedly attached Hoor plate strip 24, having its forwardend extending beyond the platform and upturned as at 25.`
The forward edges ofthe outer side wall members 10and 11 extend beyond the for- 70 ward edges of the respectiveplatforms 14, i 15 and 16, and also extend upwardly above the uppermost platform 14.` Desirablyfthese side wall members l'and 11 are provided with steps rearwardly'and upwardlyk along 75 their forward edgesas4 shown in the drawings` (Figure 3), with these steps substantially in alignment with the upper` edges of the partition members 21. i
There is thus formed a plurality of compartments eachhaving an inclined floor, or platform, as 15., the sides 10, 11,21, 21 of `which extend beyond the'extremity ofthe platform, each side having an inwardly directed lange22, .or 24, upon which a commodity 26- can rest, the upturned ends 23, 23, 25, 25 of the extended Walls preventing suchcommodities from sliding `from the device. i
The operation of the device isfias fol- 90 lows:`
Suitable commodities, as packages of chewing gum, yare placed upon the plat'- forms, and allowed of their own Weight t0 move, downwardly and outwardly along the T-shaped heads 22,. 224 and plates 24, 24, until they rest upon the stop members `23, 23, 25, 25. If they willnot assume this position of their own Weight'they are moved manuallyA into position., The forward comlo modity directed members 22, 22 or 2li, 24,'but is free from contact with the platform and hence has its under side exposed. To remove a commodity it is simply necessary to push it upwardly and it is then free from the device. The next commodity will then move, or can be moved, forwardly in position for removal.
By reason of the inclination and widely stepped relation of the platforms 14, 15 and 16, the compartments may be very conveniently loaded with packages from the front of the device. These platforms form bottoms for the compartments which are effective to prevent the accidental dropping through of packages, whichotherwise would occur upon the slight angular displacement ofV a small elongated package, such as the packages 26, 26, whileloading the compartments. v Y i Ifl the inclinations of the'platforms are such as tol allow the commodities to move forwardly by gravity, as is desirable, it will be seen that my invention presents a device in which a commodity is exposed for ready removal, and that the removal of such exposedy commodity allows of theautomatic presentation of a new commodity for removal.
It is evident that the device can be constructed to contain one or more compartments, and one or more platforms, as desired.
I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number, or arrangement of parts as shown and described as these are given simply as, a means for clearly describing the device of my invention.
Vhat l claim is 1.
