and conveying and collecting such material at a place foreign to the drill and which effectively protects the operator of the drill heretofore subjected to the material as it is discharged by the drill.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and .claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating the drill and its operating means positioned for operation with a safety guard applied to the drill and constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 3 is an end view illustrating the guard. Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on theline 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 1 indicates a pneumatically operated drill of a conventional type for the purpose of boring and drilling holes in the ground and the drill has the usual air feed pipe 2, as shown in Figure 1, to which is 35 connected a control valve 3. The control valve is connected to a safety guard 4 by a flexible tube 5. The safety guard 4 is mounted on the bit of the drill and bears against the surface of the ground so as to receive from the opening 10 being formed by the drill dirt and other foreign matter. material suitable for the purpose, preferably spongy rubber so that the wall may yield during the various movements of the drill and still maintain a contact with the latter. A yieldable sleeve 13 is mounted on the cylindrical element ,7 and is adapted to hear at one end against the surface of the dirt or ground during the operation of the drill so that dirt forced out of the hole by the bit will be received within the cylindrical element '7 and discharged therefrom through the tube 6 by the air pressure from the feed line 2. 7
An ear 14 is carried by the cylindricalelement 7 and has a. slotted arm 15 connected thereto by a bolt 16 equipped with a wing nut permitting the arm to be adjusted relative to the ear. A hook-shaped element 1''! is adjustablysecured to the slotted arm 15 and carries an anchoring element or plug 18 adapted to be driveninto the ground for the purpose of supporting the guard over the opening being formed by the drill bit.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction,
combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and 500 of my invention, as claimed.
Having described the invention, I claim:
A safety dust guard comprising a cylindrical element, a yieldable wall carried by one end of the element and having an opening to permit a drill bit to extend therethrough and through the cylindrical element, a yieldable sleeve on the element to engage the ground about the drill bit, means for connecting the interior of the cylindrical element to an air pressure means, outlet means on the cylindrical element, a slotted arm pivotally and removably secured to the cylindrical element, and an anchoring element adjustably secured to the slotted arm.
