IMPROVE-M ENT IN TYPE-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,686, dated December 25, 1877; application filed May 21, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ULIUs Rorns, of Ishpeming, Marquette county, Michigan, have invented" a new and Improved Type-Case, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a transverse section on line as m, Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a plan View.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved device for holdingtype, dies, or other articles that are to be kept separate and protected from dust or from becoming lost or disarranged. The device is designed more especially for use in post-offices, railway-offices, and other places where hand-stamps or printingpresses' are used that employ changeable type.
In the drawing, A is a circular box, of suitable depth to accommodate the type, and provided with a central circular block or boss, B.
The space between boss B and the sides of the box is filled by two corrugated strips, or b, of sheet metal, which form two series of cells for receiving the type, which are separated by the strip 0. r
A square aperture, d, is made in the side of the box, and also in the side of the boss B, and
a notch is out from the strip 0 to form a receptacle for the forceps e, the head of which is of such a form as to close the aperture d.
Covers 0, consisting of two half-disks, are pivoted to the center of the boss, and are provided with knobs f, by which they may be turned. The edges of the covers fit ina groove, g, formed in the side of the box.
By turning these covers any portion of the interior of the box may be exposed; or it may be closely shut by turning the covers so that the straight edge of one overlaps that of the other.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent-- The box A, having the boss Band pivoted covers 0, and divided into cells or compartments by corrugated strips'a b, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
