Patented Mar. 26, 1935 UNITED STATES THIEF AND FooL-Pnoor oLosURE John R. Boyd, Natchez, 'Miss. Applicationk November 2 2, 1934,` Serial No. 754,347 5 claims. (c1. 22o-s6) following taken in connection with accompany-g'A ng drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawing:-
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view showing the invention applied, for example, to the lling neck or tube of a fuel tank;`
Figure 2 is a view vof the parts of Figure 1 taken at a right angle thereto with the open position of the parts suggestedin dotted lines, andv Figure 3 is a rhorizontal sectional view taken on the'line 3-1-3 ofFigure2.
Referring vspecifically to the drawing, 10 designates the lling tube, neck or the like of a tanky or other'receptacle l1, for example, the fuel tank of an automobile or self-propelled vehicle, alf though the invention is capable of use in connection with receptacles generally.
Pivoted to the upper end ofthe neck 10 by means of a hinge 12 is a cover orcap 13. Saidk cover or cap moves ona horizontal axis and in closed position may b'e latched' through the mel dium ofa resilient fastening element 14 carried by thecover or closure 13 andhaving a shoulder r15 adapted to hook under a lug 16 carried by the neck. t
Disposed within the. neck are a plurality ofv rings 17 at diiierent heights to each of which is pivoted or hinged on ahorizontal axis at 18, a plate or baffle 19 which lin closed position rests on the respective rings, the hinges 18 are located on oppositesides of the neck. 1
A rod or link 20, diagonallydisposed',v is pivoted as at 21 to the closure 13 and at 22 to the baiiiey plate 19 while a rod or link 23 is lpivotally connected to the baflie plates 19 at 24.
As aresult of the construction described, opening of the cover or closure 13` to the dotted liney position suggested in Figure 2 will cause corresponding opening of the baffle plates 19 as also rvention.
It will be noted thatr of the plates by means of the rods 20 and 23,01"
`equivalent means. When the closure 1'3 isreleased, the weight of thebaie 19 and rods 20k and 23 will immediately and automatically close .v
the cover 13.' o v l l I t will be apparent thatv when the cover 13 and the vplates or baflles 19 are in the position shown in broken lines in Figure 2, that filling of the tank 11 may be accomplished, butthat removal of the contents of the tank 11.by siphoning cannot be accomplished because of thestaggered PATENT OFFICE `suggested in dotted lines, due tothe connection.
arrangementr of the baiiie plates 19 when in thek dotted line position as stated.r v Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the in- I claim as my inventionz- 1. In combination with vthe lling passageof a tank or the like, a cover for said passage, and
