  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • Referring to the drawings and initially to FIGS. 1-3, a sideward ignition apparatus for a barbeque grill in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises an upright support rack 50 having a top provided with a side board 52, a sideward burner head 1 mounted on the side board 52 of the support rack 50, and an ignition mechanism 40 mounted on the sideward burner head 1.
  • The sideward burner head 1 includes a support seat 10 mounted on the side board 52 of the support rack 50, a gas conveyor connector 20 mounted on a first end of the support seat 10 and connected to a gas source (not shown), a hollow gas conducting pipe 15 mounted in the support seat 10 and having a first end facing the gas conveyor connector 20 to introduce the gas from the gas conveyor connector 20 into the gas conducting pipe 15, a front frame 30 mounted on a front side of the support seat 10, at least one ceramic board 35 mounted on an inner face of the front frame 30, a front wind shield hood 32 mounted on a front side of the front frame 30, and a rear wind shield hood 12 mounted on a rear side of the support seat 10 to cover the gas conducting pipe 15 and the gas conveyor connector 20.
  • The support seat 10 of the sideward burner head 1 has a substantially U-shaped cross-sectional profile. The sideward burner head 1 further includes a fixing bracket 11 mounted on the first end of the support seat 10 to support the gas conveyor connector 20.
  • The gas conducting pipe 15 of the sideward burner head 1 has a periphery formed with a plurality of flame apertures 16. The sideward burner head 1 further includes a net 17 mounted on a second end of the gas conducting pipe 15 and located opposite to the gas conveyor connector 20 to distribute the gas in the gas conducting pipe 15 evenly.
  • The ceramic board 35 of the sideward burner head 1 has a surface formed with a plurality of ventilating holes 36 which are arranged in a matrix and are connected to the flame apertures 16 of the gas conducting pipe 15.
  • The front wind shield hood 32 of the sideward burner head 1 is located at a second end of the support seat 10 and located opposite to the gas conveyor connector 20.
  • The ignition mechanism 40 is mounted on the second end of the support seat 10 of the sideward burner head 1 and located opposite to the gas conveyor connector 20. The ignition mechanism 40 is attached to the side board 52 of the support rack 50 and covered by the front wind shield hood 32 of the sideward burner head 1. The ignition mechanism 40 includes an igniter 41 mounted on the sideward burner head 1, a conducting wire 42 having a first end connected to the igniter 41 and a second end connected to an electric power supply(not shown), a constant fire nozzle 45 mounted on a periphery of the igniter 41, and a guide pipe 46 having a first end connected to the constant fire nozzle 45 and a second end connected to the gas conveyor connector 20 to introduce partial of the gas from the gas conveyor connector 20 into the constant fire nozzle 45.
  • The igniter 41 of the ignition mechanism 40 faces the ceramic board 35 of the sideward burner head 1 and is located opposite to the gas conveyor connector 20. The igniter 41 of the ignition mechanism 40 is mounted on the 1 front frame 30 of the sideward burner head 1 and fully hidden in the front wind shield hood 32 of the sideward burner head 1.

  • In operation, referring to FIGS. 1-5, the gas from the gas conveyor connector 20 is introduced through the guide pipe 46 into the constant fire nozzle 45 of the ignition mechanism 40. At this time, the guide pipe 46 of the ignition mechanism 40 has a diameter smaller than that of the gas conveyor connector 20, so that the gas from the gas conveyor connector 20 is introduced through the guide pipe 46 into the constant fire nozzle 45 of the ignition mechanism 40 quickly. Then, the igniter 41 of the ignition mechanism 40 is opened to co-operate with the constant fire nozzle 45 of the ignition mechanism 40 to produce a constant fire. At the same time, most of the gas from the gas conveyor connector 20 is introduced into the gas conducting pipe 15 of the sideward burner head 1, so that the gas is full of the inside of the sideward burner head 1. Thus, when the gas in the gas conducting pipe 15 of the sideward burner head 1 contacts the constant fire from the constant fire nozzle 45 of the ignition mechanism 40, the flame is ignited in the opposite direction so as to ignite the fire exactly. Then, the heat produced the flame is conducted through the ventilating holes 36 of the ceramic board 35, so that the heat is distributed evenly toward the support rack 50 so as to boil the food smoothly and evenly.
  • Accordingly, when the flame from the gas conducting pipe 15 of the sideward burner head 1 extinguishes due to a larger wind, the constant fire nozzle 45 of the ignition mechanism 40 produces a constant fire (or mother fire) so as to maintain stability of the flame. In addition, the constant fire nozzle 45 of the ignition mechanism 40 is protected by the front wind shield hood 32 of the sideward burner head 1 so as to maintain stability of the constant fire. Further, the gas conducting pipe 15 of the sideward burner head 1 is protected by the ceramic board 35 and the rear wind shield hood 12 of the sideward burner head 1 so as to maintain stability of the flame.
  • Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment(s) as mentioned above, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. It is, therefore, contemplated that the appended claim or claims will cover such modifications and variations that fall within the true scope of the invention.
