Description

July 23,1935. 7 H. E. DE NDO FF "2, v DIAPER i Filed Jan. 25', 1954 INVENTOR- Huberi E. mm/o/f' Attorney Patented July 23, 1935 PATENT OFFICE DIAPER Hubert E. Dendofl, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Application January 25, 1934, Serial No. 708,327
Canada December 9, 1933 1 Claim. (Cl. 128-284) This invention relates to improvements in a baby diaper. Its primary object being to provide a diaper that may be discarded after use and thus dispense with the washing.
A further object is to provide such a diaper that is constructed of a cellulose material such as "Cellophane having a layer of absorbent material secured on the inside thereof.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the diaper may be pinned together without tearing the Cellophane covering.
A still further object is to devise such a diaper that may be manufactured very cheaply and that is an improvement over similar articles heretofore offered for sale.
With these and other objects in view that may appear while the description proceeds the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing and in which- Fig. l is a general plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 shows the improved diaper folded.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views it will be seen the invention comprises a sheet of cellulose material I I preferably that known as Cellophane on account of its soft, pliable, yet strong texture. This forms the outer layer and provides a water proof covering for the inner layers of material.
Said inner layers H are of substantially the same size and shape as the covering and are to be of suitable absorbent papers of which there are many now being manufactured for this and other similar purposes.
These inner and outer layers of material are kept in position together by means of cotton gauze or other similar suitable material which as shown in the preferred construction of Fig.
1, is formed into triangular portions l2 and secured on the inside and outside of the diaper 5 either by sewing or any other preferred way in such a manner that the edges of the inner layer II will be kept within the prescribed limits of the covering l0. From Fig. 4 it will be seen these triangular portions of cotton gauze form means whereby the diaper may be pinned in position on the infant as the same constitutes a reinforcing protection for the Cellophane and absorbent material.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have devised a diaper that may be constructed very inexpensively and may be easily disposed of.
It is believed that the construction and advantages of the structure shown may be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing without further detailed description.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed it is understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of co-operating parts may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:'
In an article of manufacture of the type described, a diaper comprising an outer layer or covering of pliable waterproof material, an inner layer of absorbent material completely covering the outer layer and a series of gauze envelopes 86 adapted to fit over each comer of the outer and inner layers to secure them together and provide reinforcing means to receive pins for fastening the corners together when the diaper is folded. o
