Abstract
A knife-grinder has a body and a grinding device. The body has a handle segment and a mounting segment. The handle segment is formed on a rear end of the body. The mounting segment is formed on a front end of the body, is formed on and protrudes from the handle segment and has a chamber, an opening, two pivot holes and a major grinding mouth. The grinding device is detachably mounted in the body and has two pivot rods, a first grinding element and a second grinding element. The pivot rods are respectively mounted in the pivot holes of the mounting segment. The grinding elements are respectively, rotatably and movably mounted around the pivot rods, and each grinding element has a spacing disk and two grinding slices. The grinding slices are respectively, rotatably and movably mounted around the pivot rods beside the spacing disks in an alternative arrangement.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to a knife-grinder, and more particularly to a knife-grinder that can be used to grind knifes at multi-directions.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- A conventional knife-grinder has multiple sharpening stones or grinding slices interoperable with each other to sharpen or grind the cutting-edges of the knifes. However, the sharpening stones or grinding slices are mounted securely in the conventional knife-grinder and cannot be moved relative to each other to adjust or change the angles between the sharpening stones or the grinding slices, and so the conventional knife-grinder can only sharpen or grind the cutting edges of the knifes at a specific angle. Then, the conventional knife-grinder cannot be used to sharpen or grind all kinds or sizes of knifes. In addition, the cutting edge of a knife has to be inserted between the sharpening stones or the grinding slices at the specific angle for being sharpened or grinded and this is inconveniently in use.
- Furthermore, in order to overcome the above-mentioned shortcomings, an adjusting device is mounted on a handle of the conventional knife-grinder to adjust or change the angles between the sharpening stones or the grinding slices to enable the conventional knife-grinder to sharpen or grind the cutting edges of the knifes at multi-directions. However, the components of the conventional adjusting device are complicated and this will increase the cost of production and the time of assemble of the conventional adjusting device.
- To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention provides a knife-grinder to mitigate or obviate the aforementioned problems.
- The main objective of the present invention is to provide a knife-grinder that can be used to grind knifes at multi-directions.
- The knife-grinder in accordance with the present invention has a body and a grinding device. The body has a handle segment and a mounting segment. The handle segment is formed on a rear end of the body. The mounting segment is formed on a front end of the body, is formed on and protrudes from the handle segment and has a chamber, an opening, two pivot holes and a major grinding mouth. The grinding device is detachably mounted in the body and has two pivot rods, a first grinding element and a second grinding element. The pivot rods are respectively mounted in the pivot holes of the mounting segment. The grinding elements are respectively, rotatably and movably mounted around the pivot rods, and each grinding element has a spacing disk and two grinding slices. The spacing disks are respectively mounted around the pivot rods. The grinding slices are respectively, rotatably and movably mounted around the pivot rods beside the spacing disks, are mounted in the chamber in an alternative arrangement and extend into the major grinding mouth of the mounting segment.
- Other objectives, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

FIG. 6 is an operational side view in partial section of the knife-grinder inFIG. 1 for grinding a single-edge knife. - With reference to
FIGS. 1 to 3 , a knife-grinder in accordance with the present invention has abody 10 and agrinding device 20. - The
body 10 may be made of two half-casings 11 and has a front end, a rear end, ahandle segment 12 and amounting segment 13. Preferably, the half-casings 11 are connected securely to each other bymultiple fasteners 14 to form thebody 10. Thehandle segment 12 is formed on the rear end of thebody 10 and has a forming end, a hanging end and a hangingring 15. The hangingring 15 is formed on and protrudes from the hanging end of thehandle segment 12. - The
mounting segment 13 is formed on the front end of thebody 10, is formed on and protrudes from the forming end of thehandle segment 12 and has a bottom, a top, two opposite sidewalls, achamber 131, anopening 132, twopivot holes 133, a majorgrinding mouth 134 and a minor grindingmouth 135. Thechamber 131 is formed in themounting segment 13 between the bottom and the top of themounting segment 13. Theopening 132 is formed through the bottom of themounting segment 13 and communicates with thechamber 131. - The
pivot holes 133 are formed through the opposite sidewalls of themounting segment 13 at an interval and communicate with thechamber 131. The major grindingmouth 134 is formed through the top of themounting segment 13 between thepivot holes 133 and communicates with thechamber 131. The minorgrinding mouth 135 is formed through the top of themounting segment 13 between the forming end of thehandle segment 12 and one of thepivot holes 133 of themounting segment 13. - The
grinding device 20 is detachably mounted in thebody 10 and has twopivot rods 21, afirst grinding element 22 and asecond grinding element 23. Thepivot rods 21 are respectively mounted in thepivot holes 133 of themounting segment 13. Thegrinding elements pivot rods 21 in a loose fit condition, and each grindingelement spacing disk grinding slices spacing disks grinding elements pivot rods 21, and eachspacing disk - The
grinding slices pivot rods 21 and are mounted in thechamber 131 in an alternative arrangement, and eachgrinding slice grinding slices spacing disks grinding slices chamber 131 and extends into the majorgrinding mouth 134 of themounting segment 13. In addition, each one of thegrinding slices 232 of thesecond grinding element 23 partially extends out of thechamber 131 and extends into the minorgrinding mouth 135 of themounting segment 13. - When assembling the knife-grinder in accordance with the present invention, with reference to
FIG. 2 , thegrinding elements chamber 131 of themounting segment 13, and thepivot rods 22 are mounted in thepivot holes 133 of themounting segment 13 to enable thegrinding element chamber 131 of themounting segment 13. The half-casings 11 are then connected securely to each other with thefasteners 14. Thus, thegrinding elements grinding device 20 can be assembled with thebody 10 of the knife-grinder easily and conveniently, and this can reduce the cost and time of assemblement of the knife-grinder. - With reference to
FIGS. 4 and 5 , when a user wants to grind or sharpen a double-edges knife 40, the edges of the double-edges knife 40 are put into the major grindingmouth 134 of themounting segment 13 at multi-directions. Because of thegrinding slices pivot rods 21, the outer peripheries of thegrinding slices edges knife 40. When the user pulls the double-edges knife 40 to move relative to themounting segment 13 of thebody 10, thegrinding slices pivot rods 21 to enable the outer peripheries of thegrinding slices edges knife 40 to grind or sharpen the edges of the double-edges knife 40. Consequently, the double-edges knife 40 can be inserted into the major grindingmouth 134 at multi-directions between thegrinding slices edges knife 40 by thegrinding slices pivot rods 21. In addition, different kinds or sizes of the double-edges knifes 40 also can be inserted into the major grindingmouth 134 to grind or sharpen the edges of the double-edges knife 40 without using a conventional adjusting device. Then, the knife-grinder in accordance with the present invention can be used to grind knifes at multi-directions by a simple structural relationship and this can reduce the cost of production of the knife-grinder. - Furthermore, with reference to
FIG. 6 , when the user wants to grind or sharpen a single-edge knife 50, the edge of the single-edges knife 50 is put into the minor grindingmouth 135 of themounting segment 13. Thegrinding slice 232 of thesecond grinding element 23 are rotatably and movably mounted around acorresponding pivot rod 21, and this can enable the outer peripheries of thegrinding slices 232 to abut and rub against the edge of the single-edges knife 50 at multi-directions. - Even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and features of the invention, the disclosure is illustrative only. Changes may be made in the details, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
Claims (6)
1. A knife-grinder comprising:
a body having
a front end;
a rear end;
a handle segment formed on the rear end of the body and having a forming end and a hanging end; and
a mounting segment formed on the front end of the body, formed on and protruding from the forming end of the handle segment and having
a bottom;
a top;
two opposite sidewalls;
a chamber formed in the mounting segment between the bottom and the top of the mounting segment;
an opening formed through the bottom of the mounting segment and communicating with the chamber;
two pivot holes formed through the opposite sidewalls of the mounting segment at an interval and communicating with the chamber; and
a major grinding mouth formed through the top of the mounting segment between the pivot holes and communicating with the chamber; and
a grinding device detachably mounted in the body and having
two pivot rods respectively mounted in the pivot holes of the mounting segment;
a first grinding element rotatably and movably mounted around one of the pivot rods and having
a spacing disk mounted around the corresponding pivot rod and having a diameter; and
two grinding slices rotatably and movably mounted around the corresponding pivot rod and each grinding slice having
a diameter being larger than the diameter of the spacing disk of the first grinding element; and
an outer periphery partially extending out of the chamber and extending into the major grinding mouth of the mounting segment; and
a second grinding element rotatably and movably mounted around the other pivot rod and having
a spacing disk mounted around the corresponding pivot rod and having a diameter; and
two grinding slices rotatably and movably mounted around the corresponding pivot rod, mounted in the chamber in an alternative arrangement with the grinding slices of the first grinding element and each grinding slice having
a diameter being larger than the diameter of the spacing disk of the second grinding element; and
an outer periphery having partially extending out of the chamber and extending into the major grinding mouth of the mounting segment.
2. The knife-grinder as claimed in claim 1 , wherein
the mounting segment has a minor grinding mouth formed through the top of the mounting segment between the forming end of the handle segment and one of the pivot holes of the mounting segment; and
the outer periphery of each one of the grinding slices of the second grinding element partially extending out of the chamber and extending into the minor grinding mouth of the mounting segment.
3. The knife-grinder as claimed in claim 2 , wherein
the body is made of two half-casings; and
the half-casings are connected securely to each other by multiple fasteners to form the body.
4. The knife-grinder as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the handle segment has a hanging ring formed on and protruding from the hanging end of the handle segment.
5. The knife-grinder as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the handle segment has a hanging ring formed on and protruding from the hanging end of the handle segment.
6. The knife-grinder as claimed in claim 1 , wherein
the body is made of two half-casings; and
the half-casings are connected securely to each other by multiple fasteners to form the body.
