Application March 19,1935, Serial No. 11,873
My invention relates to a dish towel.
The essential objects of my invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a towel of such class for receiving one of the hands and for the passage of the wrist of the user whereby it is detachably connected with the arm of a person when the towel is employed for Wining or other purposes; for coupling it to the wrist of a person if it be desired to employ both hands for purposes other than wiping dishes when occasion requires; to prevent the towel from dropping on the floor when in use; to enable the towel to be hung on the Wrist while answering the telephone or doorbell; and to attain these ends in a strong, durable, compact, tho-roughly efficient and inexpensive structure.
To the above ends essentially and to others which may hereinafter appear, my invention consists of such parts and such combination of parts which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the towel,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view, in front elevation and upon an enlarged scale, of one end of the towel,
Figure 3 is a section on lines 3-3, Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4, Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is a section on line 55, Figure 2.
I The towel is formed of two sections I, 2. The former is set up from a web of fabric of the desired length and width. The section 2 is arranged in superposed relation with respect to section I and is formed of a narrow strip of fabric of a length corresponding to the width of said web. The web is so formed and the sections I, 2 so arranged relatively to each other to provide the towel with a portion 3 to be used for wiping purposes, openings 4, 5 for the selective passage of a wrist and pockets 6, 'I for selectively receiving a hand of the user. The portion 3 is of materially greater length than the length of said openings or the depth of said pockets. The openings 4, 5 align with and are spaced from the mouth of the pockets 6, I by the stretch 8 of section I.
The walls of openings 4, 5 are formed by the stretch 9 of section I combined with the section 2 and the spaced parallel rows of stitching II], II and I2. The section 2 is disposed transversely of web 8 and is arranged over stretch 9. The sides of section 2 are secured to sides of the section I by the stitching I0, I2. The section 2 at its transverse median is secured to section I by the stitching I I. The latter forms an inner side wall common to said openings.
An end part of section I is bent upon itself to provide an oblong fold I3 which opposes the stretch I4 of section I. The fold I3, stretch I4 and the space-d parallel rows of stitching I5, I6 and IT form the pockets 6, I having their mouths arranged in close parallel relation to the openings 4, 5 respectively. The sides of the fold I3 are secured to sides of the stretch I4 by the rows of stitching I5, ii. The fold I3, as its transverse median, is secured to the stretch I4 by the stitching IS. The latter forms an inner side wall common to said pockets.
The fold I3 is inturned upon itself, as at I8, andthe fold and inturned part are secured together, as at I9, for reinforcing the edge 20 of the fold. The section 2 is inturned upon itself, as at 2 I, and the said inturned parts are secured together, as at 22, for reinforcing the lengthwise edges 23 of section 2. The portion 3 is hemmed as at 24. The openings i, 5 are arranged at the inner end of the portion 3.
The section 2, in connection with stretch 9, provides a pair of couplers, from either of which the towel may be suspended from the Wrist of the user, whether or not the hand extends into one of said pockets. Each pocket forms a hanger means whereby the towel may be suspended or connected to a hand of the user during a wiping operation when employing portion 3. Generally the left wrist will extend through an opening 4 or 5 and the left hand will be positioned in a pocket 6 or I. The wiping portion 3 will be used by the right hand. When using the towel for wiping dishes an opening 4 or 5 and a pocket 6 or I respectively will be employed. It is not necessary when suspending the towel from a wrist to have the hand positioned in a pocket.
What I claim is:
1. A dish towel formed of an elongated oblong web having one of its end terminal portions bent inwardly upon one face thereof to provide a fold disposed transversely of said web from one side to the other thereof, a strip extending transversely of said face from one side edge to the other side edge of the web and arranged in close parallel spaced relation to that edge of the fold disposed transversely of said web, said strip being arranged between the transverse median of the web and the said edge, spaced means for securing said strip at each side and at its transverse median to the web to provide, in connection with the latter, a pair of openings for the selective passage of and for suspending the towel from the wrist of a person, and spaced means for body extending from said strip to the other end 1 securingsaid fold ateach sideand at its transverse of the body forming an elongated portion for median to the web to form, in connection with wiping dishes. the latter, a. pair of pockets for selectively receiv- A dish w l Comprising an elongated 5 ing the hand of the persons wrist extended e Web h g Side d end edges and an end 5 through one of said openings, said pockets having terminal Portion bent thereupon form a bend the mouths thereof arranged in parallel spaced and d flush Wiith Said Side edges, Spaced p relation to the inner ends of said openings. 81181 means Securing Said fold to the y of 2.
