The object of the present invention is to provide a sign display stand or frame adapted to be disposed upon a side-walk to receive, interchangeably, signs or display cards advertising products for sale in the store in front of which the device is disposed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sign display stand or frame of the type specified which may be shipped in knock-down condition, that is, by removal of the supporting legs from the frame member and which is easily reassembled by the purchaser to whom the same is delivered.
Another object of the invention is to provide a structure of the type specified wherein the display cards may be interchanged through the bottom of the frame member.
Suitable embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a sign display stand constructed in accordance with the invention, the sign contained within the frame member thereof being shown as partly broken away.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 1, the ends of the supporting legs of same being broken away in part.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail perspective view showing a lower corner portion of the frame member of the structure.
Fig. 4 is a detail vertical sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1 illustrating the crosssectional shape of the upper end rail of the frame member of the structure.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary detail perspective view showing a portion of one of the supporting legs of the frame member and a bracket secured thereto for engagement with a side rail of the frame member when said supporting leg is assembled with said frame member.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary detail vertical sectional view showing another embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary detail perspective view further illustrating the modified form of construction illustrated in Fig. 6.
The device of the present invention comprises a frame member consisting of channeled side and top rails l and 2, respectively, in which the top and side edge portions of advertising or similar card or sign 3 is adapted to be received and engaged.
The side walls of the side rail I of the frame member are preferably welded at their lower ends to the upwardly extending flanges 4 of angle iron 5 which are spaced from each other a distance equal to that which spaces apart the side walls or flanges of the side rails of the frame member and thus provides an open slot 6 between said angle bars 5 through which the card or sign 3 is adapted to be inserted into and removed from the frame member.
Pivotally secured to one of the horizontally disposed flanges of one of the angle bars 5 and to the lower face thereof, is a plurality of sign supports I which are adapted to support the sign or card 3 disposed within the frame and are arranged to be turned to the dotted line positions shown in Fig. 2 to permit removal and replacement of said sign or card 3.
A pair of supporting legs 8 is provided for the frame member above described, consisting each, preferably, of an angle bar bent to arcuate form and having bevelled ends disposed to cause the extremities of said supporting legs to rest firmly upon a supporting surface, such as a side-walk. As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 5, secured to each of the supporting legs 8 and to the vertically disposed outer flange thereof, is a bracket plate 9 equipped at its upper end portion with a socket member Ill adapted to receive a lower end portion of one of said rails l of the frame member. Each of said plates 9 is welded, preferably, to the outer vertical flange of a leg 8, but may be otherwise secured thereto. The arcuate upper flange of each of the legs 8 is provided midway between its ends with a recess ll and, at each side of said recess, with a perforation l2 which is adapted to register with a similar perforation in a horizontal flange of an angle bar 5 for purposes of bolting or similarly securing the legs 8 to the said angle bars 5. Obviously, the recess l I will register with the slot 6 formed between the angle bars 5 and thus permit of the insertion of the sign or card 3 of the full width of the frame member as indicated.
In practice, the frame member is made up separately from the legs 8 with the brackets 9 secured thereto and said respective component parts of the completed device are forwarded to the ultimate consumer in disassembled condition, thus rendering the entire shipment compact. The consignee then assembles the structure as shown in Fig. 1 whereupon it is ready for use.
In Figs. 6 and 7, I have illustrated a modified form of construction or different embodiment of the invention wherein the supporting legs l 3 for the frame member [4, constructed as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, are equipped with a bracket member l5 comprising a U-shaped upper end formation l6 adapted to receive the side rails of the frame member I4 corresponding to the side rails I of the structure of Fig. 1, the remainder of said bracket member l5 comprising leg portions I! between which the vertical flanges of the angle bars l8 of the frame member I are received and which terminate in horizontally disposed portions indicated by reference numeral I5 to fit over the horizontal flanges of the angle bars l8, the terminal ends of the portion l5 being L-shaped and secured to the upper flanges of the supporting legs [3 by means of the rivets H! or in any other suitable manner, as for example by welding.
In this structure, the upper flanges of the supporting legs I3 are devoid of the recesses of the supporting legs 8 of the structure of Fig.1, the said supporting legs 13 being adapted to be moved telescopically outwardly out of engaging relation to the frame member for purposes of inserting and removing display cards, such as the card 3, the
I claim as my invention:
A sign display structure comprising a frame equipped with channeled side and top rails and a slotted bottom rail for engaging the peripheral edge portions of a sign-plate and permitting insertion and removal thereof, the said bottom rail equipped with outwardly projecting flanges provided with perforations at points adjacent to the lower ends of the side rails, a pair of supporting leg members provided in their upper faces with perforations registering with those in the aforesaid flanges of the bottom rail of the frame, removable coupling devices engaged in the registerleg members and equipped with upper end portions engaging the side rails of the frame member for cooperation with said coupling devices to maintain said leg members firmly engaged with the said frame against movement relatively thereto and apairxof sign supporting devices each pivotally secured to the lower face of bottom rail and adapted to be moved to and from positions spanning the slot therein.
