The invention relates to a bag or bottle in the form ofa collar to contain water or ice, or the like, forapplying heat or cold to a part of the body such as the throat.

An object of the invention is to provide a Water bag in the form of a collar or saddle designed to effectively apply heat or cold to the main lymphatic channels and glands of the neck region, although it lends itself for application to other parts of the body where localized applications of heat or cold are required in fixed position.

Another object is the provision of a water bag .in the form of a collar which when in position on the wearer will remain fixed in position, without any loss of snugness of fit and without any loss of comfort, irrespective of Whether the wearer assumes a horizontal or a vertical posture.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the features, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings showing one embodiment of the water bag of my present invention, two separate chambers or compartments are shown at l, I adjustably connected by lacing 2. Each of the compartments l is provided with an independent closure 3, preferably of the rolled and folded stopperless kind as is disclosed in my Patent No. 1,752,808, issued April 1, 1930, at the end of said compartments remote from the adjustable lacing connection. In the embodiment shown, a tab 4 is provided extending from either one of the two clamping and buttoning tabs or members of the stopperless closure so that in closed position the tabs 4 will extend beyond the closures 3 and being perforated as shown at to, may be detachably connected as by means of a button .5. T is de ach b e efie p es apart the ends of the water bag defined by said closures and provides for allowing relative movement between the said ends of the Water bag. Pivotal movement about the button or pin 5 and the flexibility of the connection provides for relative tilting of the closed ends of the bag in at least two directions so as to render it readily conformable and adjustable comfortably to the wearer.

While in the embodiment shown the rolled and folded closure is preferred, the invention contemplates within its scope any other form of closure for the water bag compartments. Also any sort of detachable connection may be provided between. the ends of the Water bag, and the closures may or may not be disposed at the ends, without departing from the scope of the invention.

Extensions 6 from the water bag compartments or chambers l are provided with lacing holes 6a and adjustably connected by the lacing 2, so that the spacing at this point between the compartments i may be made greater or less to increase or decreasethe size of the collarshaped water bag by means of the lacing. To adjust the lacing to smallest possible size of the collar-shaped water bag,the holes.6a in theextensions 6 are placed in registry with the extensions overlapping as shown in Fig. 4, and the lacing threaded through the registering holes.

The invention includes within its scope any suitable form of adjustable connection other than the lacing which is preferred in the embodiment shown.

The shape of the upper edges of the compartments 1 is such as to provide an indentation 1 to fit beneath the ear of the wearer, with portions 8 and 9 to extend up on either side of the ear, said portions 8 and 9 being provided with tabs H) to receive suitable bands, such, for instance, as ordinary gauze bandage, which connect the tabs and extend across the head of the wearer.

The two compartments or packs of the water bag in the embodiment shown, each pack preferably having the well known stopperless closure non-leaking and suitable for ice or water, provide a collar or saddle shaped water bag designed particularly to apply heat or cold to the main lymphatic channels and glands of the neck region.

With the water bag in position the wearer may assume horizontal or vertical position freely without any loss of comfort or snugness of fit.

While the embodiment shown is designed for the neokregion, the invention also lends itself for application to other parts of the body where localized application of heat or cold is required in fixed position.

The water bag of my invention meets many needs. It may be filled hot, cold, or just with air when only immobilization of the neck is needed. One side may contain ice and the other water or air, as occasion demands.

It will be noted that the folded closures present smooth inner surfaces when in closed condition for use, which smooth surfaces engage the body of the wearer, the clampingtabs and buttons of the stopperless closures and the connecting tabs 4 and button 5 all being disposed on the outer side of the device opposite from the smooth inner surfaces and away from the body of the wearer.

It will be apparent that when the bag is connected, as, for example, into the position of Fig. 3, it flares outwardly in a direction towards the edges bearing the tabs l0, and thus conforms to the neck and jaws or other parts of the body to which the bag may be applied.

I claim:

1. A flexible bag of the class described comprising a plurality of similar separate flexible bag body portions for holding ice or water or the like, said flexible bag body portions each having an elongated portion of reduced width, said elongated portions diverging angularly from each other when spread apart and having a reentrant space between them, a filling opening for each of said bag body portions with closure means related thereto, and cooperating fastening means associated with the ends of said elongated portions to be connected together producing a bag of flaring form.

A flexible bag of the class described comprising a plurality of similar separate flexible bag body portions for holding ice or water or the like, said flexible bag body portions each having an elongated portion of reduced width, said elongated portions diverging angularly from each other when spread apart and having a reentrant space between them, a filling opening in the end of each of said elongated reduced portions and axially coinciding with the axis of the elongated reduced portion with and closure means related to said end filling openings, and cooperating fastening means associated with the ends of said elongated portions to be connected together producing a bag of flaring form.

3. A flexible bag according to claim 2 in which said closure means releated to said end filling openings are flexible and said cooperating fastening means are carried by said flexible closure means.

A flexible bag according to claim 2 in which said closure means related to said end filling openings are foldable, said cooperating fastening means being carried by said foldable closure means and including tabs extending from said foldable closure means together with means providing a detachable connection between said tabs.

5. A flexible bag according to claim 2 in which said closure means related to said end filling openings are foldable, said closure means including tabs extending laterally from said elongated reduced portions, and connecting tabs extending from said laterally extending tabs, with means providing a detachable connection between said connecting tabs.

6. A flexible bag according to claim 1 in which the outer edge of each of said flexible bag body portions comprises two protruding portions having a reentrant space between them to receive the lobe of the ear with said protruding portions extending upwardly on either lateral side of the ear, and securing means related to said protruding portions.

A flexible bag according to claim 2 in which said closure means related to said end filling openings are foldable, said cooperating fastening means being carried by said closure means, said closure means and cooperating fastening means including tabs and securing means for said tabs, said tabs and securing means therefor being mounted so that in the folded closed condition of the closure means they are disposed on the outside thereof away from the inside surfaces which are to engage the body of the wearer, said inside surfaces of said folded and closed closure means which are to engage the body of the wearer being smooth and free from projections.
