P. MORTON DISPLAY SIGN Nov. 1, 1938.
Filed Aug. 19, 1937 ZIIIIIIIIITII v nvenzbr Patented Nov. 1, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to display signs and contemplates a construction and arrangement which will enable a quick interchange of the display surfaces thus eliminating a material loss of time and unnecessary cost of labor.
More specifically this invention provides a frame slotted for the reception of a pair of panels or sheets of advertising on display material, each sheet or panel having on one face a duplicate of the display of the other sheet, whereby these parts when positioned in the frame will present, if desired, on each exposed side a duplicate advertisement.
Other features will more clearly hereinafter 1. appear by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Fig. l is a side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
Fig. 3 is a top plan, and
Figs. 4 and 5 show in elevation one of the display panels.
The illustrated construction includes suitable ground-entering ends of the vertical posts I, (shown broken off) and an upwardly continuation thereof 2 and 3, upper horizontal frame member 4, and lower horizontal frame memher 5. The upper face of the lower horizontal frame member 5 is rabbeted or grooved at 6 and similar rabbets or grooves l and 8 are formed in the Vertical end posts 2 and 3, the lower end of the latter terminating flush with the lower face defining the groove in the horizontal member 5. Thus there are provided lower and end retaining grooves for receiving the sign panels 9 and Ill. The upper horizontal frame member 4 is formed with centrally positioned elongated slot ll, through which the panels 9 and II] are inserted and removed and by means of which the upper end of the panels are normally retained in position. The caps l2 on the ends of the posts 2 and 3 are slotted at M to present a continuous guide surface to facilitate insertion and removal of the advertising panels.
Each of the panels 9 and I0 is identicalin construction, being formed of suitable sheet material to enable the printing or painting of advertising material on the exposed faces. It is contemplated that each panel will contain two display faces which are duplicated on the other panel so that they can be positioned in the frame with similar faces exposed. After exposing one set of faces for a definite period the panels can be reversed thus presenting another sign in duplicate. By this arrangement it will be apparent to one skilled in the art that the present invention in the first instance permits the printing or painting of the display material at a home ofiice and eliminates the loss of time now experi- 15 enced by the painting of signs on fixed display surfaces at present utilized. Also by the use of a pair of panels containing duplicate display material, the sign owner can by merely reversing the panels double the life of the advertisement 20 without any material expense.
To further increase the attractive appearance of the assembly a lower brace I5 is spaced below the lower frame member 5 and vertical spaced slats iii are arranged therebetween. 2
Changes in details of construction can be made Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: so
In a support for reversible display panels, a base, a frame supported by said base including a pair of spaced vertical frame members and upper and lower spaced horizontal frame members, the vertical frame members and lower horizontal frame members being rabbeted at their inner faces, to receive said display panels, the upper horizontal frame member being formed with an elongated slot for inserting and removing said panel, and caps on the ends of the vertical frame member having slots extending outwardly from their inner faces, the side wall of which registers with the wall of the slot formed in the upper horizontal member and define the extremities of said slot.
