10 all times therefore eliminating fatigue to a material extent; and to provide for the resting of the foot on the ski in a manner to prevent slippage of the foot relative to the ski.

The invention together with its objects and 15 advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing one form of ski constructed in accordance with the m present invention.

Briefly the invention consists in providing a ski having thereon a foot deck or rest to accommodate the foot together with a deflector positioned relative to the rest for directing the snow away from the foot and towards opposite sides of the ski.

In the form of the invention shown in Figure 1 the foot-rest or deck mounted on the ski l is indicated by the reference numeral 2 and is formed integral with the ski I. The deck 2 is o of a width .corresponding to the width of the ski l and is of any suitable length. The platform portion 3 of the deck is provided with slots 4 preferably arranged as shown while the space between the platform 3 of the deck 2 45 and the body of the ski I presents a deflector 5 which in this form of the invention is formed integral with the deck 2 and the ski l and presents deflecting surfaces 6 which acts to direct the snow passing from the platform 3 of the deck through the slots 4 outwardly toward opposite sides of the ski I through elongated slots 1 provided at opposite sides of the deck.

In actual practice the foot is secured on the deck 2 in any suitable manner, resting on the 55 platform 3. The snow which would otherwise tend to accumulate between the platform 3 and the bottom of the foot, passes through the slots 4 and outwardly at opposite sides of the ski through the opening I being directed to and through said openings by the deflector in an 5 obvious manner. Thus it will be seen that there will be little, if any, likelihood of the snow packing between the bottom of the foot and the platform 3 of the deck 2. Hence the possibility of the foot slipping relative to the ski and/or 10' to clean the hard packed snow therefrom are now all reduced to a minimum if not entirely eliminated.

In the form of the invention shown in Figures 4 to 6, inclusive, the deck therein indi-' cated by the reference numeral 8 is constructed separately from the ski l and in the present instance is formed of metal or other suitable material bent, shaped and dimensioned to provide a raised platform 9 having at the front and rear thereof flanges l0 and H which terminate in lateral apertured attaching flanges l2 and I3 through the medium of which and screws or other fastening elements I4 the deck or shoerest is positively secured to the ski. The flange It) at the forward end of the deck is made from a plate of metal or other suitable material bent into a substantial V and the wings of the V curved as shown to provide the deflecting surfaces l1--|l.

As shown in Figure 6 in forming the slots I5 the portions of the metal struck from the plat- 5 form are directed downwardly thus providing in alternation with the slots l5 gratings I8 that are substantially channel-shaped in cross-section and have their open sides disposed downwardly.

The deflector I6 is arranged in the space between the platform 9 of the foot-rest or deck 8 and the body of the ski l with the apex or closed end of the V-shaped deflector fitting in the medial gratings l8 to be thereby held securely in position. 56

Thus it will be seen that in both forms of the invention provision is made for preventing the packing of the snow between the foot and the platform of the deck or foot-rest and for the directing of the snow to opposite sides of the ski; the snow which would otherwise pack between the foot and the platform of the deck being substantially automatically pushed through the slots in the deck by the pressure of the foot and the weight of the body.

It is thought that a clear understanding of the construction, utility and advantages of an invention of this character will be had without a more detailed description thereof.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a ski having a foot-rest thereon, said foot-rest being spaced frem adjacent portions of the ski and said space being located under the foot-rest and opening out at the side edges of the ski and said foot-rest having openings therein passing from the top of said foot-rest to said space.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a ski having a raised foot-rest thereon, said foot-rest presenting a platform provided with slots, said platform being spaced from the body of the ski and the space between the platform and the ski body presenting slots at opposite sides of the ski for the discharge of the snow passing downwardly through the slots in the platform.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a ski having a raised foot-rest thereon, said foot-rest presenting a platform provided with slots, said platform being spaced from the body of the ski and the space between the platform and the ski body presenting slots at opposite sides of the ski for the discharge of the snow passing downwardly through the slots in the platform, and a deflector mounted in the space between the body of the ski and said platform and serving to direct the snow towards and through the aforementioned slots at opposite sides of the ski. '4. As a new article of manufacture, a ski having a raised foot-rest thereon, said foot-rest presenting a platform provided with slots, said platform being spaced from the body of the ski and the space between the platform and the ski body presenting slots at opposite sides of the ski for the discharge of the snow passing downwardly through the slots in the platform, and a deflector mounted in the space between the body of the ski and said platform and serving to direct the snow towards and through the aforementioned slots at "opposite sides: of the ski, and said foot-rest and deflector being integral one with the other and with said ski.

5. As a new article of manufacture, a ski having a raised foot-rest thereon, said foot-rest presenting a platform provided with slots, said platform being spaced from the body of the ski and the space between the platform and the ski body presenting slots at opposite sides of the ski for the discharge of the snow passing downwardly through the slots in the platform, and a deflector mounted in the space between the body of the ski and said platform and serving to direct the snow towards and through the aforementioned slots at opposite sides of the ski, said deflector being in the form of a metallic plate having depending flanges at opposite ends thereof provided with base flanges resting on the ski, fastening elementsengaging the ski and said base flanges for securing the. foot-rest thereto.

6. As a new article of manufacture, a ski having a raised foot-rest thereon, said foot-rest presenting a platform provided with slots, said platform being spaced from the body of the ski and the space between the platform and the ski 'body presenting slots at opposite sides of the ski for the discharge of the snow passing downwardly through the slots in the platform, and a deflector mounted in the space between the body of the ski and said platform and serving to direct the snow towards and through the aforementioned slots at opposite sides of the ski, said platform being in the form of a metallic plate having depending flanges at opposite ends thereof provided with base flanges resting on the ski, fastening elements engaging the ski and
