This invention relates to a. folding cot or bed comprising a foldable frame, which is preferably made of tubes, and of a canvas cover removably vfixed on the frame. The folding cot or bed according to the invention is constructed so that, in the position ready for use, it forms a stable and comfortable bed, and in collapsed or wrapped state a small bag or package to be carried in the hand. This folding cot is therefore practically adapted to be used when it is important that the bed be carried, i. e., for military purposes, field hospitals, etc.

The canvas cover stretched on the frame forms the couch and can further serve as a bag or wrapper for packing in handy form the collapsed frame. No separate hand bag or wrapper is therefore necessary which would cost money. require space and could get lost. In other words, the material for forming the wrapper or the hand bag is a part of the cot or bed itself. The

canvas cover has lateral flaps, straps and buckles which can be employed for securing the cover to the frame, for stretching and re-stretchlng the cover in the longitudinal and transverse direction thereupon, and also for closing the Wrapper or bag, if the cover is used as such for the collapsed frame.

To facilitate as much asl possible the folding up, packing and carrying of the cot or bed, the frame can be folded into a rectangular flat shape approximately of the size of the folded cover. The cover `can, be laid or folded several times around the at collapsed frame and the package formed thereby is then closed by folding inwards the side flaps and tightening the straps.

The frame itself includes preferably a middle rectangular piece or base and holders removably fixed to this piece and designed to hold a head bar and a. foot bar. 'I'he frame of this form of construction consists of only a few parts, is resilient and can be easily and simply put up and collapsed.

It is an object of the invention to construct a new'and novel bed frame which can be collapsed into a relatively small space or package.

Another object is to construct a new and novel cover for the foldable cot or bed, which cover serves as a cover for the bed and also as a wrapper for the folded and disconnected frame parts to form a small compact package which is easily carried.

Two embodiments of the invention are illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 shows in perspective view, in open position, the folding bed according to the invention.

Fig. 2 shows the bed collapsed tothe form of a bag for conveniently carrying it.

The folding bed or cot comprises a frame a preferably made of tubes and a cover b designed to be used at the same time for packing the bed. 20 The middle part or base of the frame consists of two pairs of U-shaped members which preferably are tubes c and d respectively, the tubes d being of slightly smaller diameter than tubes c so that the arms or legs of the U-shaped tubes d 25 can be inserted into the arms or legs of the U-shaped tubes c. Pivot means are therefore provided upon the ends of each U-shaped member which cooperate with a pivot means upon each of the other pair of U-shaped members in 3 forming the frame. The U-shaped tubes or members forming the base are thus hingedly or pivotally connected in such a manner that they can be unfolded to form a base, the general outer form of which is rectangular (as shown in Figs. 3 and 7) or folded to a hat frame, as shown in Fig. 4.

The base part of the frame, formed by a pair of U-shaped members c and the connecting members d which retain the U-shaped members c in spaced relation, may be hinged or pivoted into its collapsed relation as described, or may be detachable or taken apart if desired in order to collapse the same. In either case, the base is collapsed into packaged or reduced size irrespective of which manner of procedure is followed to package the frame in the cover.

In the first form of construction, illustrated in Figs. l to 5, sleeves c' are xed on the lower tubes c of this base, said sleeves having a socket destined to receive holders or struts e and f for the head bar g and the foot bar h respectively. The head bar and foot bar are preferably triangular an'd one is smaller than the other, where- 55 by the smaller can be nested within the larger for compactness in the packaged bed. The larger triangular part ls short enough to be received within the folded base. The struts also are short enough to be received within the folded base, whereby the folded assembly, illustrated in Figure 4, is obtained. When the frame is being erected, the head bar and the foot bar are connected with these holders or struts by being inserted in the same. The struts preferably have square or rectangular ends or may be square or rectangular pipes to be received by the rectangular sockets carried by the sleeves c', as shown in Figure 4, and prevent pivoting of the head and foot bars. The connection between the holders e and f and the tubes c is preferably such that the holders can be adjusted to diiferent angular positions. The head bar and its Strut form head means and the foot bar and its strut form foot means.

The erected frame shown in Fig. 3 can be easily and rapidly collapsed. ,First it is necessary to remove the head bar g and the foot bar h from their respective struts or holders, to pull the holders e and f out of their sleeves c' and to collapse or fold, such as by pivoting, the parts of the middle piece or base into a size approximating that of one single U-shaped tube c or d. It is therefore not necessary to pull apart the U-shaped tubes c and d each time the frame is collapsed and folded into a small portable package.

The canvas cover b has extending outwardly from each side thereof a pair of flaps k and l. Straps and buckles are carried by these aps as Well as on the ends of the cover. -These buckles must be of such type and so located that they can be used for stretching the cover in both directions.

When this cover has to be placed on the erected frame (Fig. 3), the lower narrow edge of the cover is first attached to the foot bar h, if this foot bar is not permanently attached to the cover. The other end of the cover is then pulled around the head bar g and the straps at this end of the cover are put through the buckles and tightened to stretch the cover. The flaps k and Z are then folded around their respective rod d of the base and the straps connect with the buckles on the underside. Tightening of the straps stretches the cover laterally and secures the cover to the base.

When folding up the bed, the cover b is first removed from the frame by opening the straps and then spread, as shown in Fig. 5.v The frame has then to be taken to pieces and the parts of the frame are placed together upon the cover, as shown in Fig. 4 and illustrated diagrammatically in Fig. 5. The cover is then rolled up or folded over beginning at the foot end and closed in the transverse direction by pulling together the flaps 1c, Z and in the longitudinal direction by means of straps attached to the head end. The collapsed bed forms then a at parcel or a hand bag, as shown in Fig. 2. A loop-shaped handle o may be attached to the cover to facilitate carrying it.

In the form of construction shown in Figs. 6 to l a rod i is fixed at each corner of the base or rectangular middle part so that they are co1- lapsible with respect thereto, preferably by inserting these rods into slots in the tubes c and d, as can be seen from Fig. 8. Since the slots pass into or preferably through each interengaging or cooperating leg of the U-shaped members, the

strut or rod i locks the same against pivoting and hence the base is locked in open rectangular form. It is evident that two such struts are all that is needed to lock the base in rectangular form, but since the rods or struts also lock the U-shaped members against vertical separation as well as against pivoting, the entire frame becomes more rigid if all four struts lock together all four vertical posts rr legs of the base.

The slots are so arranged that the inserted rods i are inclined upwardly at an angle. To make it possible to incline the rods i at different angles, and thereby incline the head portion of the cover b at different angles, adjustable hinges u may be provided in these rods.

The cover b, which is preferably canvas, is then attached to the ends of these four rods i. A particularly simple manner of fixation is shown in Figs. 9 and 10.

The outer end of each rod i has a slot m, and the head bar and foot bar n are sewn into the edges of the cover b. The ends of each bar are provided with mans which are received in the slots m of the rods z' when the bar is pushed inwardly from the ends of the rods to retain each bar upon the ends of its respective rods. The particular means illustrated are angularly directed extensions at each end of each bar which form shoulders for the Wall of the slot m and also engage the inside corners of its respective rod.

The canvas cover suspended in this manner is then stretched transversely at the middle part of the frame by passing the aps 1c and l under the horizontal bars of the side U-shaped members d and buckling together the flaps.

In both forms of construction, a rectangular frame is built up of a pair of spaced U-shaped members c, and a pair of inverted U-shaped members d. Each end of each U-shaped member carries pivot means, one of which engages the pivot means upon one of the other pair of U-shaped members, and the other pivot means engages the pivot means upon the other one of the pair of U-shaped members. In other words, one of the pivot means upon an inverted U- shaped member engages one of the pivot means upon a spaced U-shaped member, and the other pivot means engages an adjacent pivot means on the other spaced U-shaped member. The pivot means permit suiilcient rotative movement between the U,shaped members, and the inverted U-shaped members are located in different horizontal planes so that the U-shaped members may be collapsed or folded without separation into a relatively fiat rectangular form merely by swinging the pivot means of one diagonally opposite pair towards each other, and then swinging one outer end of the resultant flat form through 180 degrees until the former far ends are adjacent to each other, as shown in Figure 4.

Head means, which include the holder e and head bar g of Figure 3 and the rods i and head bar n of Figures 'l and 9, project outwardly from one end of the rectangular frame. Foot means, including the holder f and foot bar h of Figure 3 and the rods i and foot bar n of Figures '7 and 9, like the head means described, extend outwai-diy from the other end of the frame and in the opposite direction from the head means.

This invention is presented to till a need for improvements in a folding bed. Itis understood that various modifications in structure, as well as changes in mode of operation. assembly, and manner of use, may ,and often do occur to those skilled in the art, especially after beneiitting from the teachings of an invention. Hence, it will be understood that this disclosure is illustrative of preferred means of embodying the invention in useful form by explaining the construction, operation and advantages thereof.

I claim:

1. A folding bed frame comprising a pivotally foldable base including a pair of U-shaped members, a second pair of U-shaped members, the U-shaped members being of substantially the same size, and pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that'a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base, thepivot means connecting the U-shaped members so that the base is pivotally foldable without separation of the parts thereof into a size approximating that of one U-shaped member; removable head means extending outwardly from the base; and removable foot means independent of the head means and extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means. l

2. A folding bed frame comprising a pair of U- shaped members, including legs and a bar connecting the same, a second pair of U-shaped members, including legs and a bar connecting the same, pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other' inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base, all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width, one of the inverted U-shaped members having its connecting bar in a different horizontal plane from the plane of the connecting bar of the other inverted U-shaped member so that the U-shaped members may be rotated upon their pivot means into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member without separation thereof, removable head means extending outwardly from one end of the base, and removable foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means.

3. A folding bed frame comprising a pair of U-shaped members, a second pair of U-shaped members, pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base, all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width, one of the inverted U-shaped members having its connecting bar in a different horizontal plane from the plane of the connecting bar of the other inverted U-shaped member so that the U-shaped members may be rotated upon their pivot means into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member without separation thereof, removable head means extending outwardly from one end of the base, removable foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, and locking means carried by the pivot means and the head means cooperating together to prevent rotation of the pivot means at the head end of the base.

4. A folding bed frame comprising a pair ofv U-shaped members, a second pair of U-shaped members, pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon `the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base, all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width, one of the inverted U-shaped members having its connecting bar in a different horizontal plane from the plane of the connecting bar of the other inverted U-shaped member so that the U-shaped members may be rotated upon their pivot means into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member without separation thereof, head means extending outwardly from one end of the' base, foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, locking means carried by, the pivot means and the head means cooperating together to prevent rotation of the pivot means at the head end of the base, and locking means carried by the pivot means and the foot means cooperating together to prevent rotation of the pivot means at the foot end of the base.

5. A folding bed frame comprising a pair of U-shaped members, a second pair of U-shaped members, pivot means upon the legs of each U- shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped meinber engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base, all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width, one of the inverted U-shaped members having its connecting bar in a different horizontal plane from the plane of the connecting bar of the other inverted U-shaped member so that the U-haped members may be rotated upon their pivot means into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped vmember without separation thereof, recesses through each cooperating pair o! pivot means at the head end of the base which are in alignment when the base is in rectangular form, removable head means extending outwardly from one end of the base including a pair of rods one of which is received in the aligned recesses o! each pivot means at the head end o! the base to lock the pivot means against rotation, and a head bar carried upon the ends of the rods; and removable foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and ina direction opposite from that of the head means.

6. A folding bed frame comprising a pair oi U-shaped members; a second pair of U-shaped members; pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U- shaped member engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means uponthe other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base; all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width; one of the inverted U-shaped members having its connecting bar in a different horizontal plane from the plane of the connecting bar of the other inverted U-shaped member so that the U-shaped members may be rotated upon their pivot means into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member Without separation thereof; recesses through each cooperating pair of pivot means which are in alignment when the base is in rectangular form; head means extending outwardly from one end of the base including a pair of rods one of which is received in the aligned recesses of each pivot means at the head end of the base to lock the pivot means against rotation, and a head bar carried upon the ends of the rods; and foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means including a pair of rods one of which is received in the aligned recesses of each pivot means at the foot end of the base to lock these pivot means against rotation, and a foot bar carried upon the ends of the rods.

7. A folding bed comprising a pair of U-shaped members, a second pair of U-shaped members, all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width, securing means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the securing means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the securing means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U- shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the securing means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the securing means upon the other adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base whereby the base may be collapsed into a rectangular form which is approximately the size of a U-shaped member, head means extending outwardly from one end of the base. foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, a cover secured to the head means and the foot means, and a flap extending from each side cf the cover adjacent the center thereof for securing' the center o! the cover to the base and for preventing endwise removal ot the trame when collapsed and wrapped in the cover.

8. Afoldimbedcomprisingapairoi' U-shaped members, a second pair ot U-shaped members. all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width, pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the vbase whereby the base may lbe collapsed into a rectangular form which is approximately the size of a U-shaped member, removable head means extending outwardly from one end oi' the base, removable foot means extending outwardly from the other end oi the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, a cover adapted to be secured to the head means and the foot means, and a flap extending from each side of the cover adjacent the center thereof for securing the center of the cover to the base, the flap having a width at its point of attachment to the cover approximating the height of the collapsed base whereby the flap forms end pieces to prevent sideways removal of the folded frame when packed in the cover.

9. A folding bed comprising a pair of U-shaped members, a second pair of U-shaped members, all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width, pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pmr is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base whereby the base may be collapsed into a rectangular form which is approximately the size of a U-shaped member, removable head means extending outwardly from one end of the base, removable foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, a cover secured to the head means and the foot means, a i'lrst pair of aps one ap extending from each side of the cover adJacent the center thereof for securing the center of the cover to the base, and a second pair of flaps one nap extending from each side of the cover and adjacent the first pair of flaps for additionally securing the center of the cover to the base, the aps having a width at the point of attachment with the cover approximating the height of the base whereby the naps form doubleend pieces to prevent sidewise removal of the folded frame when packed in the cover.

A folding bed frame comprising a pivotally foldable base including a pair of U-shaped members, a second pair of U-shaped members, pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a frame is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped member cauce the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U- shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base. all of the U-shaped members having substantially the same width, and one of. the U-shaped members of one pair having its connecting bar in a different horizontal plane from the plane of the connecting bar of the other U-shaped member of that pair so that the U-shaped members may be rotated upon their pivot means into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member without separation thereof head means extending outwardly from the base and foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means.

A folding cot comprising a base including a pair of U-shaped members forming legs, a second pair of U-shaped members, all of the U- shaped members having substantially the same width, and means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the means upon the other adjacent ends of spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base whereby the base is collapsible into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member; removable head means extending outwardly from the base including one or more struts and a. head bar removable therefrom; removable foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, said foot means having one or more struts and a foot bar removable therefrom; the struts, the head bar and the foot bar being shorter than the collapsed rectangular base to permit their insertion within the collapsed base; and a cover securable to the head bar and foot bar to form the bed and a wrapper for the folded frame, a ap upon each side ofthe cover having a width apprommately the width of the collapsed base to secure the sides of the cover to the sides of the extended base and to form side retaining ilaps for the cover when serving as a wrapper for the collapsed frame.

A folding cot comprising a pivotally foldable hase including a pair of U-shaped members forming legs, a second pair of U-shaped members, and pivot means upon the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces and the other pair is inverted and the pivot means upon one inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon adjacent ends of the spaced U- shaped members to form one side piece for the base and the pivot means upon the other inverted U-shaped member engage the pivot means upon the other adjacent ends of the spaced U-shaped members to form the other side piece for the base, all of the U'shaped members having substantially the same width,one of the U -shaped members of one pair of members having its connecting bar in a diierent horizontal plane from the plane of the connecting bar of the other U-shaped member of the pair whereby the base is pivotally foldable without separation of the parts thereof into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member; removable head means extending outwardly from the base and having a strut and a triangular head bar removable therefrom; removable foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, said foot means having a strut and a triangular foot bar removable therefrom; one of said triangular head bar and triangular foot means having a size permitting it to be inserted within the other, and the struts, the head bar and the foot bar being shorter than the folded rectangular base to permit their insertion within the folded base; and a cover securable to the head bar and foot bar to form the bed and a wrapper for the folded frame, a ap upon each side of the cover having a width approximately the width of the folded base to secure the sides of the cover to the sides of the extended base and to form side retaining naps for the cover when the latter is serving as a wrapper for the folded frame.

13. A foldable cot comprising a base composed of elements connected together so that the base is collapsible into a flat rectangular form; head means and foot means which extend outwardly from opposite ends of the base to form a bed frame and which are collapsible to a size comparable to the collapsed base; and a cover which stretches between the head means and foot means when the bed is opened for use, said cover having two spaced strap means and each strap means including a cooperating strap extending outwardly from each side of the cover which strap means secure the center of the cover to the base when the bed is opened for use and provide oppositely folded end pieces for the collapsed and packaged bed to prevent endwise removal of the frame from the cover when the former is packed in the latter for convenient carrying and storing.

A foldable cot comprising a base composed of elements connected together so that the base is collapsible into a flat rectangular form; head means and foot means which extend outwardly from opposite ends of the base to form a bed frame including a head bar, a foot bar and four struts which are separable from each other; and

a cover which stretches between the head means and foot means when the bed is opened for use, said cover having two spaced strap means and each strap means including a cooperating strap extending outwardly from each side of the cover which strap means secure the center of the cover to the base when the bed is opened for use and .provide oppositely folded end pieces for thecollapsed and packaged bed to prevent endwise removal of the frame from the cover when the former is packed in the latter for convenient carrying and storing, and a pocket carried by the cover to receive and retain the struts when the frame is wrapped in the cover.

A collapsible cot comprising a base including a pair of U-shaped members of substantially the same size and wherein the sides of the U form legs, and means collapsibly connecting the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming vend pieces for the base and the connecting means forming side pieces for the base whereby the base is collapsible into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member; head means extending outwardly from the base including strut means, and means for retaining the strut means in extended position and for detaching the strut means from this position. and a head bar at the end of the strut means which is removable therefrom; foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, said foot means having strut means, and means for retaining the strut means in extended position and for detaching the strut means from this posi-4 tion, and a footbar. removably retained upon the ends thereof, the foot bar being shorter than the inner dimension of the collapsed rectangular base to permit insertion of said foot bar therewithin when folding and packaging the cot into convenient carry-form, and a cover securable to the head bar and foot bar to form the bed and also to form a wrapper for the folded frame, a flap carried by each side of the cover to' lap around the sides of the extended base when the cot is set up for use and also to lap around the folded frame when packaged for carry-form, and means to detachably secure the head bar and its cover to the packaged cot when wrapped around the collapsed frame to hold said package together.

16. A collapsible cot comprising a base including a pair of .U-shaped members of substantially the same size and wherein the sides of the U form legs, and means collapsibly connecting the legs of each U-shaped member so that a base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces for the base whereby the base is collapsible into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member; head means extending outwardly from the base including strut means, and means for retaining the strut means in extended position and for detaching the strut means from this position, and a head bar at the end of the strut means which is removable therefrom; foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, said foot means having strut means and means for retaining the strut means in extended position and for detaching the strut means from 45 this position, and a foot bar removably retained tangular base to permit insertion of the bar within the latter; and a cover securable to the head bar and foot bar to form the cotand a wrapper for the folded frame, a ap upon each side of the cover to secure the sides of the cover to the sides of the extended base and to form side retaining flaps for the cover when serving as a wrapper for the collapsed frame, and means to secure the free end of the cover when wrapped around the collapsed frame.

17. A collapsible cot comprising a base including a pair of U-shaped members of substantially the same size and wherein the sides of the U form legs, and means collapsibly connecting the legs of each U-shaped member so that a. base is constructed with a pair of spaced U-shaped members forming end pieces for the base and the connecting means forming side pieces for the base whereby the base is collapsible into a rectangular bundle approximately the size of one U-shaped member; head means extending outwardly from the base including strut means, and means for retaining the strut means in extended position and for detaching the strut means from this position, and a head bar at the end of the strut means which is removable therefrom, said head bar being retained upon the end of the cover; foot means extending outwardly from the other end of the base and in a direction opposite from that of the head means, said foot means having strut means, and means for retaining the strut means in extended position and for detaching the strut means from this position, and a foot bar removably retained upon the ends thereof; and a cover securable to the head bar and foot bar to form the cot and a wrapper for the folded frame, a flap upon each side of the cover to secure the sides of the cover to the sides of the extended base and to form side retaining aps for the cover when serving as a wrapper for the collapsed frame, the free end of the cover and the head bar, when the cover is wrapped around the collapsed frame, terminating at the edge of the frame, and means to secure the free end of the cover when the latter is wrapped around the collapsed frame.
