Description

Patented Mar. 10, 1942 warren srr trace This invention relates to display stands for displaying garments in haberdashery and like stores.
It is the principal object of the present invention to provide an improved display stand for garments, particularly neckties, which display stand is capable of simultaneously displaying a large number of neckties in an attractive manner enabling each tie to be displayed to the best advantage and to be fully inspected by a prospective purchaser without disarranging the display assembly.
One form which the invention may assume is exemplified in the following description and illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a side elevation of a display stand embodying the preferred form of my invention and disclosing the manner in which the neckties are displayed by my improved device.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged central vertical section showing the manner of construction and assembly of the upper portion of the display stand.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in perspective showing the manner in which the garment suspending clips are connected to the turret head of the display stand.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, Ill indicates a display stand for garments, particularly neckties. This stand is for use in haberdashery and like stores for attractively displaying a large number of neckties in a manner enabling the individual ties to be seen and inspected by a prospective purchaser without the necessity of the presence of a clerk and with a minimum of handling of the merchandise. I
The display device includes a central rigid standard H which, in this instance, is, shown as Depending coaxially from the head l4 and forming a part thereof is an elongated sleeve is fitted at its lowermost end with a fixed draping ring [1. This ring is connected to the sleeve l6 by spider-like legs 18. The draping ring I! is of a diameter greater than the turret head l4 and bottom surfaces of the rim I5.
is arranged concentric with respect thereto so that, as will be hereinafter described, it will aid in attractively draping the displayed merchandise. The turret head I4 includes as a fixed part thereof an annular rim portion l9. Fitted to this rim are a plurality of depending clips 20 for clipping the merchandise to the turret head in the manner illustrated.
Each clip 20 comprises a strip of fiat spring steel or like material of a very light weight bent into substantially a diamond shape. At one end of the diamond shape the two free ends 2| of the strip are bent in parallelism and in alignment with the major axis of the diamond and lie in juxtaposition. The length of the free ends 2i so formed agrees with the thickness of the rim IS. The extremities of these ends 2| are turned slightly outward, as indicated at 22, for-latching purposes as will be described. The rim i9 is formed with a plurality of radial slots 23 spaced equal distances apart throughout its circumference. These radial slots 23 extend radially inward from the perimeter of the rim a distance agreeing with the width of the strip material of which the clips 29 are formed. This is so that the ends 2! of the clips 28 may be inserted into the slots, as illustrated, and thereby positioned for use. The out-turned extremities 22 of the ends M of the clips 20 engage the top surface of the rim I9 and prevent endwise movement of the clips in the slots 23.
To secure the clips 28 in position, the rim I9 is formed with a circular groove 2t on its peripheral surface midway between the top and The ends 2| of the clips are correspondingly notched and a circular retaining wire 25 tightly fits the groove and notches and retains the' clips in position in the slots 23.
Due to the radial arrangement of the slots 23 andthe manner of positioning the clips therein, the clips will be arranged with their diamond-shaped portions in a depending position with the major axes vertical and parallel to the axis of the vertical standard II, and with their minor axes in a plane parallel to the horizontal I plane of the rim I9 and tangential to the peripheral surface of the rim I9. This places the corners of the clips at the ends of the minor axes in alignment. 7 Y
The spacing of the slots 23 is approximately equal to the dimension of the minor axes of the diamond-shaped clips 20 so that the corners 26 of adjacent clips 20 will yieldingly contact. The
compressible or yielding nature of the clips so be displayed. Further, such an arrangement enables a more attractive draping of the displayed ties.
To aid in the draping, the draping ring [1, as previously described, is of larger diameter than the turret head and is positioned a distance below the clips 20. This enables what is normally the concealed section of the tie to hang truly perpendicularly within the ring, but to enable the larger, or usually seen portion of the necktie to be arranged exteriorly of the ring and to lie flatwise against the same at that point. This gives a very nice draping effect to the tie and at the same time practically all of the main portion of the necktie can be seen on the display stand. That is to say, by merely revolving the turret head by grasping it or the ring [1, all of the ties can be seen without disarranging them or without handling them in any fashion. The symmetry and draped arrangement of the ties makes an attractive display thereof so that a selection can be made by a customer without handling the ties and without the assistance of a clerk.
For decorative purposes a cover 2'! is fitted over the turret head to conceal the mechanical con struction thereof and the mechanical attachment of the clips to the head. It is also preferable that an extension 28 be provided to the upper end of the standard to carry a pricing or other tag holder 29.
From the foregoing it is obvious that I have provided an improved display device for displaying neckwear and the like in stores. Further, that a device embodying my invention enables a large number of necktie to be simultaneously displayed in an attractive manner and enabling each tie to be displayed to the best advantage so that it may be fully inspected by a prospective purchaser without the attendance of a clerk and without disarranging the display assembly. 7
While I have shown the preferred form of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in its construction by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in theappended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display device comprising an upright standard, a revoluble. head member on the standard, a plurality of resilient clips arranged in a circle and secured to the head member and depending therefrom, said clips being substantially diamond shape in form with the minor axes thereof tangential to the periphery of the head with the resultant corners of adjacent clips being in yielding contact, a draping ring carried by the head member at a spaced distance below the clips and of a diameter larger than the diameter of the circle on which said clips are arranged.
2. A display device comprising an upright standard, a revoluble head member on the standard, a plurality of resilient clips arranged in a circle about the head member and secured thereto and depending therefrom adjacent its periphery, said clips being formed of flat thin spring material and bent into a substantial diamond shape with the minor axes thereof tangential to the periphery of the head member and with the major axes thereof parallel to the axis of the head member, the corners of adjacent clips at th ends of the minor axes thereof being in alignment and in yielding contact, said clips each having an extension at the upper end of the major axes thereof, said head member having radial slots into which said extensions are insertable, and fastening means securing said extensions in said slots.
3. A display devicecomprising an upright standard, a revoluble head member on the standard, a plurality of resilient clips arranged in a circle about the head member and secured thereto and depending therefrom adjacent its periphery, said clips being formed of flat thin spring material and bent into a substantial diamond shape with the minor axes thereof tangential to the periphery of the head member and with the major axes thereof parallel to the axis of the head member, the corners of adjacent clips at the ends of the minor axes thereof being in alignment and in yielding contact, said clips each having an extension at the upper end of the major axes thereof, said head member having radial slots into which said extensions are insertable, fastening means securing said extensions in said slots, a draping ring carried by the head member in concentric relation thereto and at a spaced distance below said clips, said head member being of a diameter greater than the diameter of the circle on which said clips are
