3 Claims; (.01. me -12s) 9 The present-invention relates to an improved disk for 7 hand projected and directed slidable movement over a playing surface;- a
'A'nobject of the invention isto provide a-game disk for use by children and'adult's and'which is arranged with thumb and finger holes positioned with 'relation to the vertical axis and'the center ofgravity so as to afford comfortable gripping and easy andbalanced control by the 'usert i Another object of -the='invention is toprovide ma gamedisk an arrangementofanumber of sets of thumb and finger holes of different spa0-= ofithe'line of'the vertical'axis of 'the disk. The
axes of the thumb' and-fingerholsare thus corivergently directed.- at angles of about 80 to the plane of the bottom face l but i the top-openings of the holes 1 are 'at right a'nglestothe--axe's'-'0f the holesr The purpose of inclining the arming butof equal balance so arranged about' a-vere tical center of the diskgas to afford a wide variety of grips accommodating. the: disk-to. various sizes 1 of players hands and to .peculiaritiesof muscular or nervous tendencies in gripping .the disks:
Still another object of theJinvention is to .provide' a gamedisk ofthecharacter describedwhich has its center of gravity disposed low-in themass so as to encourage the use ofthe muscles of the hips, knees and ankles in the proper'andsuccessa ful directive projection of. thedisk- ,Whllethe hand which delivers the disk itselfisentirely free.
fromskill-deterrentinfluences.L i These and other important objects are attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the-accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig.- l is a top plan view of a game disk embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on line. I 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The disk 5 may be of Wood, molded composition or other material of suitable weight and texture. The disk is circular in plan and its edge thickness is rounded on a radius equal to that of its circumference, thus formingfa rounded nosing 6 to minimize damage from collision in playing or in handling. The bottom face i is I flat and smooth and the top surface may be either partly or completely parallel with the bottom face I. In this embodiment the center 8 of the top face is higher than the remainder of said surface and it is provided with a depressed areafi of geometric outline and this latter area 9 is distinctively colored so that several disks used in the game may be easily distinguished from one another. A vertical center bore l0 extends entirely through the disk 5 for receiving a rod or a cord whereby a set of such disks is'conveniently held together for handling, storage or shipping.
sloping downwardly from the circumference of center area 8 is an annular area H from which the hereinafter described thumb and finger holes lar area i is tofacilitate'the ing-of the edg'esof tlielioles.

I Opposite thumblhole l2 are two fingers. holes I 4 I A, slightly smaller in diameter than the'hole l2 but having their centersinia I common circle .concentric with 'the center of hole ill; When .th'e' first andsecond-fingers of apIayerfs hand are. inserted holes |4 f-|4' and. the
thumb; isinserted -:in hole- I 2 it "will 'be 'founddthat ifrthdrhand' is'small insize, the disk willbe suspended'Wvi-thlittle or no effort and said disk'wi'll 'be very nicely balanced. The rounded edges not I only 'aiiord comfort "for ,:the' natural curving; of the non-tensionedlhand but they afford rounded surfaces againstzwhich vthe'fingers may be selectively tensioned; toga suitable degree to skillfully and easily vary the: relation ofthe flat bottom] of the disk to the floor or surface upon which the player stands to slidably project the disk along such flooror surface; Such playing surface (not shown) may be suitably. marked with chalk or paint to define a scoring areafor objective in any desired fashion, Byway of a very practical example, ashufiiejboard area may be used employing the hand projected disks thereon. This af-v fords excellent exercise for the hips, knees, ankles; arms, wrists and fingers in a very entertaining game, which is less strenuous than bowling, although more of the muscles of thebody areinvolved in the play. In order to slidably projectv thedisk for any great distancewithout bouncing,
the hand of the user must bring the bottom face v f k' l of the disk very close to the floor or playing surface whileforcefully swinging the arm to secure At the same time the wrist, hand good distance. and fingers exert a coordinated movement to control the direction oftravel.) The spacing of holes l2, l4--M is arranged uniformly about the center of the disk to accommodate a small hand or a lead inwardly and downwardly in the direction short fingered hand; It is an especial object of. I
the invention to provide several sets of thumb and finger holes having'difierent spacings to accommodate several sizes of players hands using what might be called a normal grip employing the thumb and first two fingers. The arrangement of the several sets of holes, however, enables the use of other than the so-called normal grip and in such case the player has the opportunity to use four fingers, three fingers, two fingers, or even one finger, together with the thumb. By spacing the sets of holes as shown in Fig. 1, a thumb h le. s dis os d on side one oi the alongsideofthe other of said finger holes M." It will be-seen that one who uses thumb hole 12 for ited to the exact arrangement shown, since it the thumb may insert his second and third gers in the holes I l-l4 and insert the first and little fingers in the thumb holes l5 an d I6, respec; tively. This would be a natural reaztion 'for one who dislikes to curl the unused ,fingers unto;-
get them clear of the disk.
