The invention relates to a ventilator, and more especially to roof ventilators.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a ventilator of this character, where in an edifice having an opening in its roof at the ridge area thereof can be ventilated without the liability of rain, snow or sleet during inclement Weather entering such edifice through such opening, or otherwise leakage occurring. at this point, and maximum ventilation being assured.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a ventilator of this character, wherein there is embodied refinements over the subject matter of Letters Patent No. 1,717,728, issued June 18, 1929, the vent strips of such ventilator being linked together in spaced parallel relation to each other for the proper placement thereof when erecting the said ventilator at the ridge area of a roof of a building.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a ventilator of this character, wherein the linking of vent strips together causes these to automatically assume their correct positions on the ridge area, and the crowning thereof in a proper manner by the cylindrical roll head of such ventilator, with assurance of the proper setting of the latter for ventilating purposes.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a ventilator of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and easily erected, weather-proof, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and hereinafter pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a roof ridge showing the ventilator constructed in accordance with the invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary top plan view with the cylindrical or roll head removed.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 with the head thereon.
Figure 4 is a sectional Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a sectional Figure 3.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail A designates generally a portion of the ridge area of a. roof view on the line 4-4 of view on the line 5-5 of of an edifice, such as a barn, stable or the like, and at this area is created an elongated opening B, which is at the peak of the said ridge area, the roofing shingles or other roof covering I0 separated the proper distance for this purpose throughout the lay of the roof.
Superimposed upon the shingles or other roof covering it and meeting the opposite edges ll of this opening B are vent strips l2, which are disposed parallel With each other in spaced relation to one another corresponding to the width of the said opening B, and to maintain this positioning of the strips l2. when applying the same, they at intervals thereof are connected together by tying links l3, which are disposed cross-wise of the opening B for permanent location at such points.
The strips 12 at selected distances thereon have formed therewith riser cleats M, which lie transversely thereof and terminate substantially flush with the opposite longer edges of such strips.
Saddling the cleats I4 is the cylindrical or roll ventilator head l5 for crowning the opening B, and having its lateral edge flanges l6 thereof seated upon the said cleats l4, the said flanges being secured to the strips 12 by fasteners H, at the cleats, while the said strips are anchored to the roof by fasteners l8, which underlie the said flanges IS. The spaces l9 between the cleats l4 when the head I5 is in crowning position effect vent passages, permitting air to enter and escape to and from the said head, with the course of the air through and out of the opening B, for ventilating purposes within the enclosure or edifice at the ridge area A thereof.
After applying the linked strips I2 to the ridge area A, making these permanent, and with the setting of the head l5, there will be attached to the said head near its ends for disposition at opposite end walls of the edifice, y Wires 20, which are anchored in the ground, and in this way the said wires effect lightning arresters in association with the ventilator,' the head being made from metal, and the strips constructed from wood or other fibrous material.
What is claimed is:
A ventilator for a roof ridgehaving an opening therein, comprisin a pair of strips disposed at opposite edges of the opening, riser cleats transversely of and at intervals on the strips, links positioned in openings intermediate of said cleats for connecting the strips together and lying crosswise of the opening, and a cylindrical ventilating head crowning the opening and having edge flanges resting on the cleats terminating short of the edge thereof.
