This invention relates to a device for mounting photographs, postcards, or similar articles on to provide a sheet-like form of generally rectangular shape and preferably provided at one end with a flap providing a straight-edge along which the flap is bent and which straight-edge is adapted to be used as a marginal guide line by which the sheet may he slid along one edge of the paper, the sheet being provided on the obverse face with a series of spaced apart parallel lines which lines extend in parallel relation to both edges of the page or sheet upon which the articles are to be mounted by the corner mountings, and which parallel lines are generally arranged in the form of a cross at the central portion of the obverse face of the sheet and wherein the sheet is provided on its reverse face at the upper portion thereof with a series of parallel lines disposed in spaced relation and occupying substantially the upper half of the sheet, the lower half of the sheet being arranged substantially in the form of a square and having a dotted line extending diagonall from corner to corner of the square, which line is adapted to be perforated or slit, and one half of which square wholly on one side of the diagonal line is provided with spaced apart horizontal and vertical lines extending at right angles to each other and joining the junctions thereof, being arranged on a line extending at right angles to the dotted line, by which arrangement, irrespective of whether the guide sheet is used with its obverse face or its reverse face presented outermost, various of the lines may be utilized as guide lines for the sheet or page whereby photographs, postcards and the like may be symmetrically and precisely mounted at desired locations on the page with the peripheral lines of the photographs or cards extending in parallel relation to the corresponding edge portions of the page or sheet and whereby when so located the corner mountings may be then adhered to the .face of the page or sheet at the corner of the so-positioned photograph or card for permanently or detachably mounting the same onto the page or sheet.
Yet another object of the invention resides in providing an envelope of generally rectangular form adapted to contain a number of corner mountings, which envelope itself is provided at one end, and preferably its shorter end, with a foldable flap for sealing the envelope and which flap also may be utilized as a foldable guide to overlie one of the edges of the page or sheet and slid therealong into various positions with respect to the center line of the page or sheet, and which envelope contains on its obverse and reverse faces uniformally spaced, precisely disposed parallel guide lines adapted to be used as reference lines for placing the card or photograph with its marginal edge in parallelism with a selected uide line, and wherein these guide lines on their obverse and reverse faces are so arranged that one or the other of the faces may be used, depending upon which part of the page it is desired to mount the card or photograph on the page of the album or sheet.
Yet another object of the invention comprises an envelope adapted to form a container for mounting corners of standard construction, said envelope having a flap at one end, the foldable line of which is arranged to permit the envelope to be slid along the mounting page or sheet to various positions with respect thereto, one of the faces of the envelope being providedwith a symmetrically disposed, preferably square zone, having a diagonally disposed dotted line to provide a prearranged slit when out along the line and associated guide lines having right angularly disposed portions disposed in uniforma-lly spaced relation whereby the corner of a photograph or other card to be mounted may be inserted in such ,slit of the envelope and the adjacent right angularly disposed sides of the card or photograph line up with a selected pair of angularly disposed lines whereby the card may be arranged in predetermined exact relation on the page with reference to the page, or whereby the mounting page at a corner thereof may be inserted in the slit so that the right angularly disposed lines associate with the slit or form guide lines disposed in uniformly spaced relation, parallel not only to one edge of the page but likewise parallel to the adjacent edge of the page at the corner thereof and which angularly disposed guide lines may be used as guide reference lines with respect to which a corner of the photograph may be registered, whereby precisely to place the photograph on the page at a preselected location with its edge lines parallel with the edge lines of the page and whereby the corner mountings may then be used permanently to mount the photograph in said selected position; to provide these and other objects of the invention as will be apparent upon a perusal of the following specification when taken in connection with the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of one side of a guiding device, preferably in the form of an envelope adapted to contain a, number of mounting corners.
Figure 2 is a view of the reverse side of the device shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view of the obverse face of the device shown in Figure l with the flap folded down.
Figure 4 is a view showing a more or less standard type of corner mounting.
Figure 5 is a view showing the manner in which the dotted line is slit to provide an opening for the reception of the corner of the page.
'Figure 6 is a view showing the manner in which the corner of a page is received within the slotted portion of an envelope and showing a photograph or card precisely placed on the sheet with reference to the angularly disposed lines associated with the slotted line.
Figure '7 shows a view presenting a further step in applying the corner mountings to a card or photograph placed as in accordance with Figure 6, two of the mountings onl being shown.
Figure 8 shows all four mountings in position.
Figure 9 shows the manner in which the envelope is placed upon a sheet with the reverse side outermost and using the flap of the envelope as an upper guide.
1 Figure 10 is a view showing the manner in which the card is mounted on the page in parallel relation to the upper parallel lines shown in Figure 9.
Figure 11 is .a View showing the manner in which the lines arranged in th form of a cross are used in placing two photographs in symmetrical relation with respect to the page.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the device in its simplest form containing certain advantages may be provided as a simple sheet,
having a foldable flap along one of its edges, preferably the shorter, or it may be provided as an envelope which isits preferable form and which is shown as of such construction in the drawings. In any event, the mounting guide being a sheet or an envelope is provided on its obverse and reverse faces with different parallelly disposed guide lines.
In the form shown in the drawings, there is provided the envelope 2 of generally rectangular outline and provided at its upper shorter edge with a foldable, preferable sealing flap 4 which folds along the line 6 parallel to the bottom line B and at right angles to the opposed longitudinal edge lines If] and I2. velope is preferably shown in Figure 3 as comprising a series of vertical lines and horizontal lines arranged in the form of a cross and at right angles to each other and disposed symmetrically, centrally of the obverse face of the envelope. The vertical lines are shown at l4, l6, I8, and 22, and the horizontal lines are shown at 24, 2'6, 28, 3D and 32, Only the central vertical line It passes uninterruptedly from top to bottom of the cruciform figure and only the .cen-
tral horizontal line 28 extends from edge to edge of the obverse face. All the other lines join at right angles with their corresponding adjacent horizontal lines. The upper vertical line portions may terminate short of the top as shown in Figure I where the flap comes down or this bare place may be used for advertising.
The reverse face of the envelope shown in Figure 2 is provided with a series of uniformly spaced horizontal lines 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, M, 6, 48 and 50, which extend parallel to the top line This face of the en- 6 of the envelope. The lower portion of this reverse face of the envelope form a square, that is, with the distances 52, 54 on the edges Ill and i2 equal to the length of the bottom edge 8, and this square zone is provided with a dotted diagonal line 56 which is adapted to be slitted as shown in Figure 5 for purposes as will be hereinafter apparent, and either one or both sides of the square on either side of this diagonal line is provided with ruled guide lines which are uniformly spaced apart and which comprise right angled portions extending parallel to the edges IQ and I 2 and to the edge 8. The vertical portions of these lines are 58, 60, E2 and 64 and the horizontal lines of these portions are 66, 68, 10, 72 and 14. These horizontal vertical lines meet along a junctional line 16 which extends at right angles to the dotted line 56 and meets the corner of the bottom edge 3 and the side edge Ill. By means of this construction and arrangement of the lines on the obverse face as shown in Figure 2, and by folding the flap 4 in either direction, such as shown in Figure 3, or in the re verse direction, this envelope may be used in a plurality of positions on the sheet to provide base or reference lines parallel with preselected marginal lines of the sheet or'page of the album or any sheet or page of rectangular shapeiand by which a card or sheet or photograph maybe precisely positioned on the sheet of the album or other sheet or page in the manner shownin the drawings.
In addition, by the utilization of the slotted line and its associated angularly disposed lines as shown in Figure 2, the corner of the page or sheet may be inserted in the dotted line and then the card or photograph or other rectangular sheet of paper may be placed as shown in Figure 6 with its parallel corner lines parallel to one of the selected corner lines on the reverse face as shown in Figure 2, whereby to position the card or 'photograph as shown in Figures '7 and& Thecor'ner mountings, one of which is shown in Figure 4, may then be adhered to the page or sheet whereby to hold the card or photograph or the like in permanent position on the album or whereby the photograph may be detached therefrom and replaced as desired, at the same time securing a precise mounting with its edges in parallelism with the edges of the page. Figure 9 shows the manner in which the reverse face of the envelope is positioned outwardly, the flap being folded over the edge of the page and the photograph being positioned with respect to the parallel upper lines of Figure 2, and Figure 11 shows the manner in which two photographs may besynzmetrically placed on a page by reference to the cruciform arrangement of lines shown in Figure 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat cut is: a i
1. An envelope of the character described of generally rectangular shape and, having a foldable flap adapted to close the envelope, one of the faces of the envelope being provided with uniformly spaced apart parallel lines disposed parallel to the line .of'fold of the flap and another corner lines of the envelope, said diagonal line being constructed and arranged to be slitted to provide an opening in the envelope to receive the corner of a page or sheet whereby said right angularly disposed parallel lines may be used as guide reference lines for the positioning of a rectangular card or photograph or sheet with reference to the page or sheet to be inserted in said slit formed by said dotted line.
2. An envelope of rectangular shape having a foldable flap along its shorter upper margin, one of the faces of the envelope being provided with a cruciform centrally disposed figure composed of uniformly spaced apart lines disposed in parallelism and at right angles the one to the other, and the opposite or reverse face of the envelope at one portion thereof being provided with uniformly spaced lines parallel to the fold line of the flap and another portion of said face of the envelope bein of square dimensions, one side of which is the shorter edge of the envelope, said square portion being provided with a dotted diagonal line adapted to be slitted and provided with associated uniformly spaced parallel lines arranged at right angles to each other, certain of said lines being parallel with the bottom edge of the envelope and the other lines being parallel with the longitudinal side edge of the envelope.
3. An envelope of rectangular shape having a foldable flap at one end and adapted to form a package containing mounting corners for the mounting of photographs, cards and the like in albums and sheets, said envelope being provided on at least one of its faces with spaced or ruled lines extending parallel with each of the marginal lines of the envelope to provide guide reference lines for the placing of a photograph with reference to a page, one of the faces of the envelope being provided with a. diagonal line extending diagonally with respect to two right angularly disposed edge lines of the envelope and which diagonal line is adapted to be slitted to receive the corner of a rectangular page Or sheet upon which the cards or photographs are to be mounted.
4. A device of rectangular shape adapted to form a guide for the mounting of photographs, cards and the like in albums and sheets, said device being provided on at least one of its faces with spaced or ruled lines extending parallel with each of the marginal lines of the device to provide guide reference lines for the placing of a photograph with reference to a page, one of the faces of the device being provided with a diagonal line extending diagonally with respect to two right angularly disposed edge lines of the envelope and which diagonal line is adapted to be slitted to receive the corner of a rectangular page or sheet upon which the cards or photographs are to be mounted.
