Fatented July 22, 1947 FACE PROTECTOR SHIELD FOR SHAMPOOING Frank J. Conjurske, Sturgeon Bay, Wis. Application September 10, 1945, Serial No. 615,287
1 Claim.
My invention refers to face protecting shields or visors for shampooing, particularly convenient in beauty shop equipment. Under ordinary conditions in shampooing, the shampooing fluid will trickle down the face of the patron and in the eyes and ears causing unnecessary inconvenience and annoyance. My simple shield or visor can be quickly applied to the forehead of the patron and will avoid such difficulties as stated above.
The specific object of my invention is to provide a waterproof visor or shade having a spring base for adjustment to the forehead of the patron, and the same is provided with earcups or pads, whereby water is shed from the patrons ears.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combinaticn and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and more particularly defined by the appended claim, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawings is illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of the present invention constructed according to the best mode so far devised for the practical application of the principles thereof.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a shield embodying the features of my invention, the same being illustrated as applied to the forehead of a person.
Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of the shield, partly broken away to illustrate structural features,
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the same,
Figure 4 is a magnified fragmentary cross section of the shield, the section being indicated by line 4-4 of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is another cross sectional view, the same being upon a plane indicated by line 5--5 of Figure 2.
Referring by characters to the drawing, 1 indicates a metallic bow strip, the same being formed by folding the metal to develop a hollow core having outstanding spaced lips 2--2. The said lips are provided for the reception of inner edges of a thin shade 3, which shade may be formed from Cellophane, plastic or, preferably, any opaque material.
Fitted into the hollow ends of the strip I,
are spring straps 4, which straps, after being adjusted, are secured by firmly pinching the walls of the bow. The outer ends of the straps are provided with slots 5 for the reception of bolts 5', which bolts extend from ear cup-pads 6. By this arrangement the cup-pads may be adjusted in or out and locked in their adjusted position by thumb nuts 6'.
In order to firmly clamp the shield to the forehead of the user, I provide a soft band 1, which is cemented or otherwise secured to the inner Wall of the hollow strip I. In order to properly support the shield, the band, which is preferably formed from rubber, has centrally depending therefrom a nose rest 8.
From the foregoing description it will be noted, that due to the simple structural features, the shield may be assembled and manufactured at a minimum cost and the same is also rendered durable for an indefinite time.
Particular attention is directed to the fact, as shown in Figure 1, that the shade can be quickly adjusted to the forehead of a patron, and the ear .pads are snapped over the ears to prevent water from entering the same. Furthermore, it will :be noted that the nose rest 8 serves to hold the shield in its proper position. While I have shown the shield positioned at a certain angle, obviously it may be tilted further downwardly, when desired.
I claim:
A shield of the character described comprising a metallic section of a bowed hollow strip having lips extending outwardly therefrom, a shade fitted between the lips, spring straps adjustably fitted into the ends of the hollow strip the ends of said hollow strip being compressed to frictionally hold the spring straps in their adjusted position, ear cup-pads mounted at the free ends of the straps, and a soft forehead band secured to the inner faces of the bowed strip, the band having a downwardly pointed nose rest depending therefrom, whereby the shield is yieldingly supported by the forehead and nose of the wearer.
FRANK J. CONJURSKE.
