This invention relates to brassieres. More particularly, the invention deals with brassires which are adapted for use by women in nursing children wherein each side portion of the brassiere includes means for lowering the pocket of the brassiere to expose the breast sufiiciently for nursing, without changing the position of the .brassiere upon the body of the wearer, or without disturbing .the companion pocket, thereby providing a simple and practicalmeans for nursing a child without the need of removing the brassiere from the body of the wearer. The novel featuresof the invention will be best understood from the following descriptions when "taken together with the-accompanying drawing, in which certain. embodiments of the invention are disclosed, and in which the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in, each .of the views, and in which:

In garments of-the kind under consideration, it has beennecessary for a woman to disrobe to the extent of removing a brassiere in .order to nurse achild. Itis the purpose of my invention to provide a brassire construction which can .be

maintained upon the body of the wearer, means being provided to simply lower the upper and central portion of the brassiere sufficiently to expose the breast for nursing.

In the accompanying drawing, I have shown, for the purpose of illustrating one adaptation and use of :my. invention azbrassireof the general structure and contouras disclosed in my prior Patent 2,337,810. It will be understood, however, that the invention .is applicable toibrassires of any form and construction .110 which my improved supporting strap structure .can be applied.

Attached to the sides of the breast pockets, including the lower bands 43-43, are side ;body straps iii-18 terminating at their rear ends in elastic straps I9-I9' to the ends of which are attached coupling bands '20 and 2l, the bandZO having coupling hooks 22 and the band 2-! having spaced coupling eyes 23 to provide adjustablecoupling of the brassire about the body of the wearer.

To the upper outer corner portions of each pocket are secured coupling loops 24-24 to the pper edge of the rear .end portion of the straps l 8-.-|8 are attached shoulder straps 25-25. These straps have buckles 26-46 for adjustably sup-portingtheshoulder straps on the bodyo the wearer and arranged in the loop of each shoulder strap is a coupling loop 2'|--2|', through which freely passes a pocket supporting strap 2.8.28. These, straps have at one end .elastics attached to the front portion of the pocket adjacent the upper [end of the coupling band l4 and one .of these elastic ends is shown at '29 inFig. 1 oflthe drawing. The other end of the straps.2B-.28' have coupling hooks ..3030' which are adapted to engage the loops 242'4.

At the lowerside portions of the brassiere and extending onto the straps |8--,|8 are coupling strips haVing' spaced eyes 3'|3l' which provideadjustable coupling of the hooks IT-J1 respectively therewith.

The illustration in Fig. ,1 of the drawing is somewhat diagrammaticin the sense that the garment is not shown as mounted upon the body. The purpose of this illustration is to moreclearly disclose the several parts of the invention in a simplified showing. "In other words, it is not essential to detach the strap 15 orthehook l1 thereof from one of the eyes 3| in the operation of uncoupling and lowering the upper portion of the pocket '10. However, this can be .done if desired without disturbing the position of the brassire upon the body of the wearer.

It willbe apparent from Fig. 1 that when his desired to expose the breast of the right hand pocket, as seen in Fig. 1, all that is necessary is to detach the loop 24 from the coupling hook30' and to draw the upper portion of the pocket downwardly over the breast to expose the breast in a manner substantially as shown in dot and dash lines in Fig. 2 of the drawing. In this uncoupling, it will be apparent that the strap 28' as well as the shoulder strap 25' will become free and in re-coupling the upper portion of the pocket, the coupling hook 30' will be pulled downwardly and the loop 24 raised to re-couple said parts. The. same operation can take place with the upper portion of the left pocket, as seen in Fig. 1, and against the garment will be maintained upon the body of the wearer.

Another feature of the invention resides in the fact that in providing the adjustable shoulder straps together with the yieldable support by reason of the elastic inserts in the straps 28-28' and the adjustability of the straps l5l5', the brassiere is capable of adjusting itself to reduction in size of the breasts after a nursing period and these adjustments also facilitate expansion of the pockets as the breasts become enlarged.

It will also be understood that the garment is not limited for use in the manner more specifically herein dealt with, as this garment through the various strap members employed, produces a practical brassiere structure for use in supporting'the breasts in raised position and particularly where the breasts are of large size.

' Having fully described my invention, what I claim'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A brassire comprising a pair of substantially similar pockets, means comprising body encircling bands for supporting the brassiere around the body of the wearer, shoulder straps for supporting the brassiere upon the shoulder of the wearer, means at upper ends of the pockets and forward ends of the shoulder straps for detachably coupling the shoulder straps with the upper central portions of the pockets, whereby upper portions of each pocket may be lowered to expose the breast for nursing without displacing the brassiere from around the body of the wearer, said last named means including supplemental supporting straps extending from the upper central ,front portion of the lbrassire and slidably coupled with the forward'ends of the shoulder straps and having at their ends coupling hooks and loopsat the upper portions of the pockets with .which said coupling hooks are detachably coupled, supplemental supporting straps extending from upper, inner sides of each pocket over lower portions of opposed pockets, and means at side portions of the brassire and on ends of the supplemental supporting straps for detachably engaging the straps with side portions of the lbrassiere. 1

2. A brassire comprising a pair of substantially similar pockets, means comprising .body encircling bands for supporting the brassiere around the body of the wearer, shoulder straps for supporting the brassiere upon the shoulder of the wearer, means at upper ends of the pockets and forward ends of the shoulder straps for detachably coupling the shoulder straps with the upper central portions of the pockets, whereby upper portions of each pocket may be lowered to expose the breast for nursing without displacing the brassiere from around the body of the wearer, said last named means including supplemental supporting straps extending from the upper cen-' tral front portion of the brassire and slidably coupled with the forward ends of the shoulder straps and having at their ends coupling hooks and loops at the upper portions of the pockets with which said coupling hooks are detachably coupled, supplemental supporting straps extending from upper, inner sides of each pocket over lower portions of opposed pockets, and means at side portions of the brassire and on ends of the supplemental supporting straps for detachably and adjusteibly engaging the straps with side portions of the brassiere.

A brassiere comprising breast pockets having upper and lower portions, means adjustably supporting the pockets around the body of the wearer, said means comprising a strip joining the lower portion of the pockets in a central portion, adjustable shoulder straps having forward free ends, upper portions of each pocket having strap couplings, extensible strap members attached to the upper central portion of the brassiere and slidably coupled with the free ends of the shoulder straps in supporting the shoulder straps in position, means at the free ends of said extensible strap members detachably engaging said strap couplings in supporting the pockets upon the breasts of a wearer, and said detachable engagement providing lowering of upper portions of each pocket to expose the breast for nursing while maintaining the support of said shoulder straps.

4. A brassire comprising breast pockets having upper and lower portions, means adjustalbly supporting the pockets around the body of the wearer,- said means comprising a strip joining the lower portion or the pockets in a central portion, adjustable shoulder straps having forwardfree ends, upper portions of each-pocket having strap couplings, extensible strap members attached to the upper central portion of the brassiere and slidably coupledwith the free ends of the shoulder straps in supporting the shoulder straps in position, means at the free ends of said extensible strap members detachably engaging said strap couplings in supporting the pockets upon the breasts of a wearer, said detachable engagement providing lowering of upper portions of each pocket to expose'the breast for nursing while maintaining the support of said shoulder straps, upper, inner band edge portions of each pocket extending over opposed pockets in strap members, and means detachably and adjustably coupling said strap members with lower side portions of the brassiere.
