This invention relates to holders for merchandise, and more particularly to a carrier for phonograph records of the disc type.

A main object of the invention is to provide an improved carrier for phonograph records which is very simple in construction, easy to use, and which provides a convenient means for carrying phonograph records without risk of breakage.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved carrier for phonograph records which may be made of inexpensive material, is easy to fabricate, and in which a plurality of phonograph records may be safely packed.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claim, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure l is a perspective view of a phonograph record carrier constructed in accordance with the present invention.

Figure 2 is a vertical cross-sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawings, H designates the main body of the carrier, said main body comprising a sheet of suitable rigid material such as corrugated cardboard or the like. Body H is folded and formed with an expansive pleat at 52 so as to comprise two similar side Wings 13 and M which may be positioned parallel to each other. Adjacent the top edge of each wing a rectangular hand hole is formed by slitting the Wing as shown at l5, l6 and 11 in Figure 1 and folding the resultant tab 13 upwardly and inwardly, as shown in Figure 2. The tabs l3, l8 abut each other and provide a spacing means to prevent the top portions of the Wings 53 and Hifrom being squeezed excessively inwardly toward each other, thereby substantially maintaining the parallelism of the wings.

Each wing 53 and M is pierced at its center as indicated at It and 2E]. The openings 19 and 20 are preferably slots formed to receive the shank of a headed two-pronged fastener 2|. The prongs, shown at 22 and 23, are bendable, as in the conventional type of paper fastener, and in final position, are bent away from each other and bear on the adjacent outer surface of wing l3, as shown in Figure 2. The shank of the fastener passes through the center hole of one or more phonograph records, shown at 24, which are positioned between the wings l3 and M.

In packing the records in the carrier, the wings are separated and the headed fastener 2| is passed through the slot E9 of a first wing M. The shank of the fastener then projects from the inside surface of wing it. The phonograph records are placed adjacent wing I l with the fastener shank passing through their aligned center holes. The second wing it is then closed against the records permitting the fastener shank to pass through the opening 28 thereof. The prongs 22 and 23 are then bent away from each other against the outer surface of wing it to the positions shown in Figure 2. The records may then be safely carried by grasping the hand holes in the upper portions of the wings.

Expansive pleat i2 allows any number of resords to be positioned in the carrier up to the limit of expansion of said pleat.

The openings l9 and 23 may be suitably reinforced by rigid washers of suitable material such as metal or plastic, positioned adjacent the openings at the outside surfaces of the wings l3 and Hi. If desired said washers may be permanently fastened to said outside surfaces in registry with the openings.

While a specific embodiment of a phonograph record carrying device has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

A phonograph record carrier comprising an elongated, generally rectangular sheet of substantially rigid material, such as cardboard, transversely folded adjacent its mid-length location to provide a pair of substantially square wing members of a size to overlie a standard phonograph record disc with an expansible pleat between the adjoining edges of said wing members, each of said wing members having a substantially central slot therethrough and an elongated handle opening near the outer end thereof with the tabs from such openings folded inwardly and toward the outer edges of the corresponding wing members to maintain the outer ends of said wing members in spaced-apart relationship, and a bifurcated fastener having bendable prongs inserted through said slots.
