CHRISTIAN LANGE, OF BLACK EARTH, \VISGONSIN.
HAM E-STA PLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,780, dated January 24:, 1882.
Application filed December 10, 1881. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, CHRISTIAN LARGE, a citizen of the United States, resident at Black Earth, in the county of Dane and State of Wiscousin, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Harries; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of thedrawings is a representation of a side view, partly in section. Fig. a is a perspective of the attachment, and Fig. 3 is a. cross-section.
This invention has relation to bathe-staples or trace attachments for hames; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter a designates one of the bars of the hanies, havin g the transverse parallel perforationsb made through it.
0 indicates the short bar or shoulder-piece of the attachment, having on its bearingface at two parallel prongs, e, which are' designed to be passed through the perforations bet the heme, and are secured thereto by headingdown the ends over washers. These prongs project at right angles to the bearing-face or shoulder d, and the latter extends on all sides from the base of the prongs in such a manner as to form a strong-brace bearingagaiust the home, prevguting the prongs from being easily broken 0 From the outer fareof the shoulder-piece extend obliquely two parallel lugs, g, which are made broad from front to rear, and are perfo- 40 rated at their ends to receive the ends of the pin-beating 71 on which the roller 7; turns. The bearing h is shown to be a screw having a threaded end, Z, and the perforation m'of one of the lugs is threaded to engage there- 5 with. The perforation 'v of the other lug is usually countersunk, so that the head 2 of the hearing I: will be flush with its outer surface. This construction facilitates the attachment or detachment of trace-connections, and in cases of accident is designed to serve an important purpose, affording ready means for detaching a horse from the draft.
The shoulder-piece, its prongs, and lugs are usually made entire of one piece of metal.
The screw roller-bearing may bensed in connection with lugs cast on metallic hamcs.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The hame-staple consisting of the bracing shoulder-piece c, the parallel prongs a, project ing from its bearing-face d, the oblique perforated lugs g, extending from its outer face, and the roller-bearing, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN Lasers.
