Description

Feb. 13, 1951 J. R. GULISANO PANTY-SLIP Filed Nov. 14, 1947 INVEN TOR. rJIIBEFI-I RBULISAHU A TTJR/YE' Y Patented Feb. 13, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PANTY-SLIP Joseph R. Gulisano, Jackson Heights, N. Y. 2 Application November 14, 1947, Serial No. 785,861
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a combination half slip and pantie.
The principal object of this invention is the provision of a combination undergarment which may serve both as a half slip and as a pair of panties.
It is the object of this invention to provide a single combination undergarment which combines the feature and functions of a half slip and a pair of panties.
It is another object of this invention to provide a single undergarment to take the place of two conventional undergarments, to wit: a half slip and a pair of panties.
. Still another object of this invention is the provision of a combination undergarment of the character described, which may be made with less material and less labor than is required in the manufacture of the two garments which it displaces.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of an undergarment of the character described which is more comfortable to wear, especially in warm weather, than the conventional undergarment whose place it is designed to take.
Another object of this invention is the provision of an undergarment of the character described which is easier to put on and take off, and easier to launder than the conventional garments which it displaces.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is an inside vertical sectional view of the garment, taken on the line I-l of Fig. 4.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary inside back view of the garment.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the garment.
Fig. 4 i a top plan view thereof.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the crotch piece.
Fig. '7 is a plan view of another crotch piece showing a different type of crotch insert incorporated therein.
Fig. 8 is a similar view of a third crotch piece showing still another form of crotch insert incorporated therein.
It will be seen from the drawing that this invention comprises two main component parts: a half slip I0 and a crotch piece I I attached thereto. The half slip I0 i of conventional construction and it is provided at its upper edge with an elastic band [2. The half slip may be made of a plurality of longitudinally extending panels l5, sewed to each other along their adjacent side edges.- As a practical proposition, it is desirable to have the slip made of a front and a back panel and two side panels.
Reference to Fig. 6 will disclose the fact that the crotch piece ll is made of three members;
two supporting .members' 20 and 2! respectively and a crotch insert 22-di'sposed between them. Thecrotch insert is attached to members 2!] and 2! by means of stitching 2'3.
It will be noted that the members 20 and 2!- at their top portions are as wide as the front and back panels l5 and have vertical side edges which extend from the top edges downward to a point slightly above the bottom edges of the members. It will be seen in Figs. 1 and 2 that the same stitches 25 which fasten the panels [5 to each other also fasten the vertical edges of the members 20 and 2| to the front and back panels l5 respectively. In other words, the same operation by which the several panels I5 are sewed to each other accomplishes the additional work of fastening the crotch piece to the slip. The top edge of members 20 and 2| may also be sewed to the top edge of the front and back panels by means of stitches 25.
Below the vertical side edges, the sides of the members 20 and 2! are converged to centrall located bottom edges of a width less than the Width of the front and rear panels I5, see Figs. 1 and 2. The crotch insert 22 is of a width corresponding substantially to the width of the centrally located bottom edges and has its ends secured thereto by the aforementioned stitches 23.
Reference to Fig. 7 will show that a slightly different type of crotch piece 32 may be incorporated into the garment. This crotch piece comprises members 3| and 32 corresponding to members 20 and 2| of the crotch piece shown in Fig. 6, and crotch insert 33 corresponding to the crotch insert 22 of Fig. 6. Stitching 34 affixes crotch insert 33 to the two members 3| and 32 respectively.
In Fig. 8, a third form of crotch piece 40 is shown. Here too, members 4| and 42 correspond to members 20 and 2| of the first form of crotch piece herein described, and crotch insert 43 corresponds to crotch insert 22 of said first form of crotch piece above described. As is the case with the first two types of crotch piece, stitches 44 are used to fasten the crotch insert to its two adjoining members.
The two forms of crotch piece shown in Figs. 7 and 8 may be incorporated into the half slip in precisely the same manner as was the first mentioned crotch piece I! first above described. The different types of crotch insert have different constructional and functional advantages and any one of these three types or of any other suitable type may be' used as and when desired.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that a in the drawing and that modifications and variations may be incorporated therein within the broad scope of the invention. For example, the overall design of the half slip may be changed at Will without departing from the basic principles of the invention. The material of which the slip and the crotch piece may be made may be any suitable material conventionally used in the manufacture of slips and panties. The dimensions of both the slip and the crotch piece may be varied in accordance with individual requirements. Trimmings and decorative details may be added to the garment in accordance with the dictates of fashion.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as de fined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
In a half slip formed of a vertical front panel, a vertical rear panel and vertical side panels with vertical lines of stitches securing the outer vertical edges of the front and rear panels to the 4 adjacent vertical edges of the side panels, a crotch piece comprising front and rear members extended along the inside faces of the front and rear panels and extending from the top edge of said front and rear panels downward to a point substantially mid-way of the height of the front and rear panels, lines of stitches securing the top edges of said front and rear members to the top edges of the front and rear panels, said front and rear members being as wide as the front and rear panels and having vertical side edges extending from their top edges downward to a point slightly above their bottom edges, said vertical edges converged'downv lard to centrally located bottom edges of a width less than the width of said front and rear members, and a crotch insert extended between said bottom end portions of said front and rear members, said crotch insert being substantially as wide as said bottom edges and having its ends secured to said bottom edges.
