HAIRPIN DISPENSER AND HOLDER Arthur R. Jackson, Roxbury, Mass.

This invention relates to improvements in the packaging and dispensing of hair pins, bobby pins, and the like for use in beauty shops and homes.

The primary object of this invention is to provide a novel attachment for the hand or other suitable support upon which is removably retained a plurality of hair pins readily accessible to the user.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a hair pin holder and dispenser of the character described which may be quickly and economically manufactured in large quantities and readily and easily assembled.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a hair pin holder and dispenser of the character described comprising a base member, a top member removably retained on the base member, a plurality of transversely extending slots in said base member, pin holders removably retained in said slots, and means for removably retaining said base member on the hand or any other suitable support.

These, together with various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by the device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device as attached to the wrist;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device shown in Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken a on the line 3-3 of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the clamps for retaining the attachment or device on a hand or other support;

Figure 5 is a perspective view of the pin holding member, and

Figures 6 and 7 are perspective views of top members for retaining the pin holder shown in Figure 5.

Specific reference is now made to the drawings. In the several views in the accompanying drawings and in the following specification similar reference characters indicate corresponding elements throughout.

The assembled device indicated generally at H) consists of a number of flexible sections fabricated either of cardboard, plastics, or other suitable material. A base member I2 is provided which consists of a base plate M to which is secured a pair of arcuated side members l6 which 3 Claims. (01'. 132-1) support an arcuate top plate [8. The side members [6 are further provided with longitudinally extending cut-outs or slits 2G for a purpose to be later described. At one edge of the base member, the base plate carries a resilient transversely extending sleeve member 22 having upwardly and inwardly curved lips 24.

Removably retained on the base member is a flexible top member 26 having transversely extending spaced slots 28. The top member 26 carries at one end a transversely extending downwardly and inwardly curved lip portion 30 for gripping one edge of the base member and another transversely extending upwardly and inwardly curved lip portion 32 at its other end to be received and retained in the lip 24 of the base member as shown clearly in Figure 2. The slots 28 may vary in width as desired as shown in Figures 6 and 7. As shown in Figure 7, the slots 28 may extend to one edge of the top member to provide openings 29 for a purpose to be later described.

A pin holder, generally indicated at 34, is provided which is of inverted V-shaped construction, the legs 36 of which carry transversely extending lateral arms 38. Adjacent the corner or apex of the holder is a pair of opposed transversely extending slits 40 and 42. A plurality of pins 44 are retained on the holder by inserting the opposed leg portions 46 in the slits 40 and 42. Since the holder 34 is a flexible or resilient memher, it can be compressed and slipped into each of the slots 28, and preferably through the openings 29 when employing the embodiment shown in Figure 7, and when released will be retained in the top member 26 as shown clearly in Figures 1 and 2. Thus it will be seen that a plurality of spaced pin holders each carrying a multitude of pins is removably retained in said top member 26.

To removably secure the base member [2 on a suitable support such as the wrist 48 of a hand 50, any suitable resilient clip may be employed, the preferred one being shown in the drawings. A pair of resilient clips 52 are provided each of which is generally U-shaped having a bottom leg portion 54 and a conventional curved lip 56 at the end thereof. The upper leg is a bifurcated member having furcations 58 and 60. As shown particularly in Figure 3, the furcations straddle the base plate M, the upper furcation 69 passing through the longitudinally extending cut-out portion 20 in each of the side members l6 of the base member.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A hair pin dispenser and holder comprising a base member, a top member removably retained upon said base member, a plurality of transversely extending spaced slots provided in said top member and pin holders removably retained in said slots, said base member including a horizontal plate, side members secured to said plate, an arcuate top .plate carried b said side members, and a transversely extending resilient sleeve carried at one edge of said base plate engaging said top member.

2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said top member is a flexible plate having a transversely extending upwardly and inwardly curved lip at one edge and engageably received in said resilient sleeve and a transversely extending downwardly and inwardly curved lip at the other edge and engaging the other edge of said base plate.

3. The combination of claim 2 wherein said slots extend through one longitudinal edge of said top member whereby said pin holders may be removably positioned within said slots through said one longitudinal edge of said top member.
