This invention relates to luggage or package carriers for baby carriages.
It it an object of the present invention to provide a carrier adapted to be fitted or attached to baby carriages to allow the mother to stow .away baby articles, such as diapers, bottles and extra clothes, and as well packages or luggage received at the store and wherein the attach- 1 ment can be detached by the mother for the purpose of taking the same into the store to receive the packages or bundles and to provide a convenient shopping basket and wherein there will no longer be a need for storing packages and the like within the carriage and accessible to the .tain a portable radio which will provide entertainment for the mother and keep her in the air more with the baby and at the same time make the father more willing to go out with the baby inasmuch as his favorite programs can be taken with him.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a package carrier for a baby carriage which has a drop back portion that can be lowered to provide a shelf which will support a portable radio and wherein access may be more easily had to the bottom of the carrier.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a package carrier for baby carriages which is of simple construction, adapted to be:'
removably connected to the carriage, which may retain a portable radio, inexpensive to manufacture, conforms to the carriage wall shape, convenient to use, of pleasing appearance and effinection with the accompanying drawing, in

Fig. 2 is-a perspective view of a modified form of luggage carrier having a back portion adapted to be dropped to receive a radio.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a still further form of the invention, similar to the form shown in Fig. 2, and with a radio supported on the drop portion.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary and perspective view illlustrating one means of removably connecting the carrier or basket to the carriage.
Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of a carrier particularly adapted to receive a radio wherein the radio will rest on the bottom of the carrier and will be confined on all sides thereof.
Fig. 6 is an end elevational view of the carrier shown in Fig. 5.
Referring now particularly to Fig. 1, there is shown a package carrier I0 constructed according to the present invention and adapted to be secured to a curved rear wall II of a baby carriage [2. On the rear wall of the carriage, there is provided laterally spaced clips I3 open at their upper ends adapted to receive wire top frame I4 of the basket I0, Fig. 4. The clip I3 can be secured to the carriage wall by screws I5.
The basket has a side frame member I6 curved at its rear edge to conform to the curved wall shape II of the carriage and to fit flush thereupon. At the bottom of the side frame is a projection ll adapted to enter a key hole slot I8 in a plate I9 secured to the carriage wall by screws 2|, Fig. 2. Between the top frame I4 and the side frames I6 is a wire netting 22 to retain the packages 23 within the frames. In each of the side frames I6 is a netting 24 for the same purpose. The netting 22 extends across therear of the carrier as well as across the front so that there is provided a complete basket upon. the carrier I0 being removed from the carriage. The netting 22 also extends across the bottom of the carrier. In order that the carrier may be used as a shopping basket to take into the store upon the carrier being removed, a handle or bail 25 is pivoted to thetop frame I4. This bail can be turned up and by lifting upon it, the carrier can be readily detached from the carriage.
Referring now particularl to Figs. 2 and 3. These forms of the invention are substantially alike except that a slightly different means of holding the drop back portion in its raised position are used. Also the frame shapes are slightly different. In Fig. 2, end frames ZSand 21 are separated and retained by a transversely extending frame 28 connected intermediate the height of the end frames. The rear edge of this frame serves as a support for a pivoted drop back portion or frame 28. The frame 29 is U-shaped and has loop end portions 3| pivoted on the rear edge of frame 28 to swing to a lowered position as shown in Fig. 2 or to be elevated to a raised position. Extending from the outer or upper edge of the frame I9 are clasps 32 engageable with an open top frame 33 secured between the end frames 26 and 27. Side chains 34 retain the drop back portion 29 in its lowered position so that with both hands packages can be removed from the bottom of the carrier or so that a radio 35 may be supported thereon as shown in Fig. 3. The drop back frame 29 has curved or raised portions 36 to retain the radio in'place thereupon and to prevent its lateral shifting movement whereby the radio will be supported with safety while the carriage is being rolled.
The rear edges of the side frames 26 and 21 have hook formations 31 at their upper ends adapted to fit over the edge of the carriage and are shaped to conform to the rear wall surface II of the carriage. The projections IT are used for the connection of the lower ends of the frames 25 and 21 to the key hole plates I-9. A handle 38 is connected between the ends of the open top frame 33. A wire netting 39 is connected to the frame 29 and a wire netting 4| is secured to the edges of the end frames zefifal'ld 27.
In Fig. 3, like numerals as used in the connection with the description of Fig. 2 and thedescription itself will apply. the invention, rings 42 are provided in the chains St to secure the pivoted back frame in the raised position. These rings 42 are extended over upper ends 43 of rear edges of frames 26 and 2! when the frame 29 is elevated whereby to retain the frame in its raised position. The portions 43 may be bent to better retain the rings 42 and prevent the upward displacement of the rings 42 there- With this form of upon. With the carriage shown in Fig. 3', only the hook portions 3? on the rear edges of the frame are used to support the carrier.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 5 and 6, there is provided acurved rear frame &5
formed at its top to provide a hook portion 46 adapted to be extended over the edge of the .carriage to support the carrier and U-shapedend pieces 47 having an inclined top if; and fixed to the curved frame 125. A bail 5G is pivotally connected between the inclined portions 4.8 of the end pieces M. This bail can be dropped down to the position shown in Fig. 5 when a radio 5| is inserted into the carrier. A netting 52 is disposed over the front, bottom and rear of the frame. A netting 53 is disposed in the end pieces All. The bottom being closed with the netting will readily support the radio 5!. It will also support packages and small articles when the radio has been removed. This carrier, like the carriers shown in Figs. 1 and 2, can be used as a shopping basket and supported by the handle thereof.
Itwill be apparent that there ha been provided a carrier for use with baby carriages which is removably connected to the baby carriage and which can be used as a shop-ping basket when detached therefrom. It will also be apparent that there has bee provided a carrier particularly adapted to support a radio and wherein the frame which is dropped serves as the support for the radio and also permits better access to the bottom of the carrier. It will also be apparent that the carrier has a curved back adapted to fit flush with the rear wall of the carrier.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
1. A package carrier for baby carriages having a curved portion adapted to fit the curved rear wall of a carriage with attaching portions thereon for releasably effecting the securement of the carrier with the carriage, an open top frame and end frame pieces, and wire netting extending between the portions and the end frame pieces whereby packages may be retained therewithin, and said top frame piece being open at the front, a drop frame pivotally connected between the end pieces and serving when dropped as a support for a portable radio or other large articles and permitting better access to the bottom of the carrier, and means for supporting the drop frame in its lowered position, and means for securing the drop frame in its raised position.
2. A carrier adapted to be detac'hably secured 'to a baby carriage comprising end frame pieces having attaching portions thereon for effecting the securement of the carrier with the carriage, a top frame open at one edge and secured between the upper ends of the end frame pieces, a closed frame secured between the end pieces intermediate the height thereof, a drop frame pivotally connected to the intermediate frame and adapted to be lowered to support a radio or large package and to permit easy access to the bottom of the carrier, and means for securing the drop frame in its elevated and lowered positions, .said end frame pieces having wire netting within them and between them, said drop frame having wire netting within it.
3. A carrier adapted to be detachably secured to a baby carriage comprising .end frame pieces having attaching portions thereon for effecting the securement of the carrier with the carriage, a top frame open at one edge and secured between the upper ends of the end pieces, a closed frame secured. between the end pieces intermediate the height thereof, a drop frame pivotally connected to the intermediate frame and adapted to be lowered to support a radio or large package and to permit easy access to the bottom of the carrier, and means for securing the drop frame in its elevated and lowered positions, and said securing means comprising chain extending between the top frame and the drop frame, said chains having rings therein and said end pieces having projections adapted to receive the rings to retain the drop frame in its elevated position.
4. A carrier adapted to be detachably secured to a baby carriage comprising end frame pieces havin attaching portions thereon for effecting the securement of the carrier with the carriage, .a top frame open atone edge and secured between the upper ends of the end pieces, a closed "frame secured between the end pieces intermediate the height thereof, a drop frame pivotally connected to the intermediate frame and adapted to be lowered to support a radio or large package and to permit easy access to the bottom of the carrier, and means for securing :the drop frame in its elevated and lowered positions, and said means for securing the drop frame comprising chains extending between the end pieces and the sides of the drop frame to retain the drop frame in its lowered position and clasps engageable with the top frame to retain. the drop frame in its raised position.
