The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in emery boards such. as are used when manicuring'ones finger nails.
The ordinary emery board for the stated .pur-' pose has either one or both surfaces covered. with abrasive materials, One face may be coarse: and the other fine, as the case may be. In. carrying out the principles of the instant invention I provide an abrasive coated so-called. emery or nail board having at least one surface provided with longitudinally running and. parallel grooves, the grooves being substantially V-shaped in cross section and the diverging surfaces or walls thereof being such as to provide runways in which the nails of the user may be raked back and forth, whereby to simultaneously bevel inner and outer surfaces of the:
Briefly summarized, but somewhat more specifically visualized, the manicuring implement in question has to do with an elongated light-- weight pocket size member having substantially" fiat top and bottom surfaces, said top surfacehaving a plurality of longitudinal spaced parallel grooves all located between and spaced from. the longitudinal edges of said member and defining fiat portions between themselves, said grooves opening unobstructedly through the opposite transverse ends of said member and being V-shaped in cross-section and of cross-sectional dimensions that when the tip of a fingernail is seated in the crotch portion, the inner and outer surfaces of said nail are simultaneously in wiping contact with the respective fiat walls. of the selected groove, and a coating of abrasive material applied to and covering all surfaces of said grooves and fiat portions.
Other objects and advantages will become more readily apparent in the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings.

Referring now to the drawing by distinguishing reference numerals, the emery board, the unitary device, is denoted by the numeral 5 and is of customary construction and configuration. 'The only ir nter' "of fact, has to do with :means formed directly in the abrasive surface in such a manner as to provide runways or pockets for nail abrading purposes. The preferred embodiment comprises grooves or channels which are substantially V-shaped and are of corresponding cross sectional form in shape. It is obvious, of course, that the walls or surfaces which go to make up the so-called grooves are coated with the stated abrasive medium and, therefore, wehave an emery board embodying the regular abrasive surface plus grooves, channels or equivalent means includ mg added abrasive areas and providing run ways to facilitate the step of raking the fingermail tips back and forth and thus b'eveling and properly conditioning and shaping the inner and outer surfaces of each nail simultaneously.
By employing a multiplicity of 'Vshaped grooves and spacing the same nominal distances from each other it will be seen that one may zselectively use either the flat landings or flat portions between the grooves, or, the grooves themselves. In the circumstances the implement will insure more satisfactory and practical filing of ones nails in a relatively short time, with a great deal less effort than is ordinarily put forth and will otherwise fulfill the normal requirements of manufacturers and users alike.
It is felt that I have evolved and produced a simple, practical and economical nail abradant implement in which manufacturers, users and others will find their expected needs fully met, contained and readily available.
The use of the straight sided walls in the V- grooves more aptly admits the snug placement of fingernails in the grooves and permits the crotch and wall portions of the grooves to enable one to treat three surfaces simultaneously, that is, the tip portions and inner and outer surface portions.
A careful consideration of the foregoing description in conjunction with the invention as illustrated in the drawing will enable the reader to obtain a clear understanding and impression of the alleged features of merit and novelty sufficient to clarify the construction of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Minor changes in shape, size, materials and rearrangements of parts may be resorted to in actual practice so long as no departure is made from the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, claimed as new is:
1. A new article of manufacture comprising a manicuring board having at least one fiat surface, said surface being provided with spaced parallel longitudinal grooves, said grooves opening through opposite transverse ends of the board, said surface being coated With an abrasive medium, said grooves being V-shaped in cross section, straight from end to end and the diverging walls being fiat and also coated with said abrasive medium, whereby to provide a plurality of flat abrasive surfaces for customary usage and selectively usable abrasive surfaced grooves for effectively filing and beveling the tip ends and inner and outer surfaces of the users fingernails at one and the same time.
