Our present invention relates to toothbrush holders.
It is an object of our present invention to combine with a toothbrush holder a musical device, preferably spring operated musical means, in such a manner that these musical means are able to operate only while the toothbrush is removed from the toothbrush holder.
A further object of our present invention is to provide a combined toothbrush holder and musical device of the above type which is adapted to hold two toothbrushes and where the spring operated musical means are able to operate only while both toothbrushes are removed from the toothbrush holder.
With the above objects in view, our present invention mainly consists of a combined toothbrush holder and musical device comprising in combination a casing, spring operated musical means arranged within the casing, a movable member forming part of the spring operated musical means, said member moving during operation of the musical means, but stopping such operation while prevented from moving, and at least one holding means for a toothbrush reaching into the casing, and arranged so that when a toothbrush is inserted into the holding means the toothbrush prevents movement of the movable member, thereby stopping operation of the musical means.
In accordance with a preferred embodiment of our present invention, we provide in a combined holder and musical device of the above type, a blocking member arranged within the casing movably between inoperative position outside or the path of the movable member, and blocking position moved into the path of the movable member preventing moving of the same, and activating means adapted to actuate the blocking member and being in turn operated by a toothbrush in such a manner as to move the blocking member from inoperative into blocking position when the toothbrush is inserted into the holding means.
It is, of course, also possible to provide instead of the above described blocking member and actuating means, one single turnable double armed blocking member arranged within the casing turnably between inoperative position in which one lever arm of the double armed blocking member is located within the path of a toothbrush inserted into the holding means and the other lever arm is located outside of the path of the movable member and blocking position in which the one lever arm is moved out of the path of a toothbrush inserted into the holding means and the other lever arm is moved thereby into the path of the movable member preventing movement of the same.
The movable member forming part of the spring operated musical means as defined above, is preferably a turnable speed regulating member. However, we wish to note that it is also possible to stop movement of the above defined movable member not only by moving a blocking member into the path of the same, but also braking its movement, e. g. by pressing the blocking member against the movable member.
We have found that in some cases we might entirely omit provision of a separate blocking member, and instead thereof arrange the holding means for the toothbrush in such a manner that when a toothbrush is inserted into the holding means it reaches the path of turning of the turnable speed regulating member thereby preventing turning of the same and stopping operation of the musical means.
If it is desired to prevent operation of the musical means only while two toothbrushes are held by the holding means, we preferably provide two holding tubes reaching into the holder casing and each adapted to hold one toothbrush, an aperture in the wall of each of the holding tubes, an actuating lever turnably arranged within the casing so as to reach with its free end through the aperture in one of the holding tubes, a blocking lever pivoted to said actuating lever spaced from the pivoting point thereof so as to be adapted to reach through the aperture in the other of the holding tubes in such a manner that the blocking lever is moved into the path of the turnable speed regulating member only when a toothbrush is inserted in each of the holding tubes, turning both the actuating lever and the blocking lever, and spring means tending to turn both the actuating lever and the blocking lever with its free end portions into the holding tubes into the path of the corresponding toothbrush.
The novel features which I consider as characteristic for my invention are set forth in particular in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its construction and its method of operation, together with additional objects and advantages thereof, will be best understood from the following description of specific embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:

As such musical movements. are commonly used for other purposes and well known to everybody skilled in this art, we will not describe in detail, but only note that they are spring driven and include a turnable speed regulating member I2 driven by the spring. It is evident that if and when this speed regulating member 12 is prevented from turning, the movement is stopped and no. music is reproduced.
We provide also within the. casing ill a tubular toothbrush holding member l3, provided with an aperture l l which is arranged so that the wings [-5. of the speed regulating member I2 reach, during turning through this aperture M, into the tubular holding member 13.
It is evident that. if a toothbrush I 6 indicated in dotted lines, is inserted into the tube B, it will be located in the path of the wings E5 of the speed regulating member l2, and thus prevent turning of thesame.
The moment the toothbrush is removed the speed regulating member I2 is free to turn, and music is reproduced.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 3' and 4, the toothbrush does not reach directly into the path of the speed regulating member [2, but we provide a double armed blocking lever l1 pivoted at [8 to the base plate I9. of the musical movement til. This double armed blocking lever is arranged so as to reach with its one lever arm through the aperture M into the holding tube l3. The other lever arm 2i of the double armed blocking lever IT is turnable from the inoperative position shown in Figure 3 into blocking position indicated in dotted lines located in the path ofthe speed regulating member I2.
A small spring 22 is provided so as to permanently tend to turn the blocking lever I! in direction of arrow 23.
It should be noted that the blocking lever I! is arranged so that in the inoperative position shown in full lines it does not block turning of the speed regulating member I2, while if the toothbrush I6 is inserted it turns the blocking lever ll against direction of arrow 23 into the blocking position shown in dotted lines: in this position the blocking lever prevents turning of the speed regulating member 12, stopping operation of the musical movement. The moment the;
toothbrush is again removed from the holding tube I3, the blocking lever is. automatically turned by means of spring 22in direction of arrow 23 into the inoperative position shown in- Figure 3 in full lines permitting rotation of thespeed regulating member [2, and operation of the music movement.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 5 to 7, we provide an arrangement which blocks operation of the music movement H only if both toothbrushes 24 and 25 are inserted into the corre sponding holding tubes 26 and 2?.
In order to enable this to be done, we provide a lever system consisting of the actuating lever 28 pivoted at 29 to the housing 3%! and reaching with its free end portion 3! through the apertrue 32- into the holding tube 25. We further provide the blocking lever 33 pivoted at 32 to the actuating lever 28, and reaching with its free end portion 35 through the aperture 35 into the holding tube 23.

We wish to note that in order toenable free movement of the blocking lever 33 if only the toothbrush 24. is inserted, we provide in the wall of the holding tube 29 an additional aperture 33, enabling free movement of this lever in direction a of arrow 44.

What we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: Y
'1. A combined toothbrush holder and musical device comprising in combination a casing having a casing wall; spring operated musical means arranged within said casing; a movable member forming part of said spring operated musical means, said member moving during operation of said musical means but stopping such operation while prevented from moving; an aperture in said casing wall; at least one holding means for a toothbrush arranged within said casing under said aperture; and a turnable double armed blocking member arranged Within said casing turnably between inoperative position in which one lever arm of said double armed blocking member reaches into said holding means and the other lever arm is located outside or the path of said movable member and blocking position in which said one lever arm is moved out of said holding means and the said other lever arm is moved thereby into the path of said movable member preventing movement of the same.
2. A combined toothbrush holder and musical device comprising in combination a casing having a casing wall; spring operated musical means arranged within said casing; a turnable speed regulating member forming part or" said spring operated musical means, said member moving during operation of said musical means, but stopping such operation while prevented from moving; an aperture in said casing wall; holding means for a toothbrush arranged within said casing under said aperture; and a turnable double armed blocking member arranged within said casing turnably between inoperative position in which one lever arm of said double armed blocking member reaches into said holding means and the other lever arm is located outside of the path of said movable member and blocking position in which said one lever arm is moved out of said holding means and the said other lever arm is moved thereby into the path of said turnable speed regulating member preventing movement of the same.
3. A combined toothbrush holder and musical device comprising in combination a casing having a casing wall; spring operated musical means arranged within said casing; a turnable member forming part of said spring operated musical means, said turnable member turning during operation of said musical means but stopping such operation when prevented from turning; an aperture in said casing wall; a holding tube for a toothbrush arranged within said casing under said aperture; an aperture in the wall of said holding tube within said casing; and a movable blocking member arranged within said casing movably between inoperative position reaching through said aperture into said holding tube but being located outside of the path of turning of said turnable member and blocking position moved by a toothbrush inserted into said holding tube outside of said tube and into the path of turning of said turnable member, thereby preventing turning of the same and stopping operation of said musical means.
4. A combined toothbrush holder and musical device comprising in combination a casing having a casing wall; spring operated musical means arranged Within said casing; a turnable speed regulating member forming part of said spring operated musical means, said turnable speed regulating member turning during operation of said musical means but stopping such operation when prevented from turning; an aperture in said casing wall; a holding tube for a toothbrush arranged within said casing under said aperture; an aperture in the wall of said holding tube within said casing; and a double armed blocking lever arranged within said casing turnably between inoperative position reaching with one lever, arm through said aperture in said holding tube into the path of a toothbrush inserted in said holding tube, but being located with its other lever arm outside of the path of turning of said turnable speed regulating member and blocking position in which said one lever arm is turned by a toothbrush inserted in said holding tube outside of the path of the same within said holding tube and said other lever arm is turned thereby into the path of turning of said turnable speed regulating member, preventing turning of the same and stopping operation of said musical means.

A musical toothbrush holder comprising in combination a casing having a casing wall; spring operated musical means arranged within said casing; a movable member forming part of said spring operated musical means, said member moving during operation of said musical means but stopping such operation while prevented from moving; two apertures in said casing wall; two holding means, each arranged within said casing under one of said apertures and adapted to hold one toothbrush; and blocking means arranged within said casing movably between inoperative position outside of the path of said movable member and operative blocking position moved into the path of said movable member preventing movement of the same, said blocking means constructed and arranged so as to be moved by both said toothbrushes from inoperative into operative blocking position by insertion of both said toothbrushes through the corresponding apertures into the corresponding holdmg means.

A musical toothbrush holder comprising in combination a casing having a casing wall; spring operated musical means arranged Within said casing; a movable member forming part of said spring operated musical means, said member moving during operation of said musical means but stopping such operation while prevented from moving; two apertures in said casing wall; two holding means, each arranged within said casing under one of said apertures and adapted to hold one toothbrush; blocking means arranged within said casing movably between inoperative position outside of the path of said movable member and operative blocking position moved into the path of said movable member preventing movement of the same, said blocking means constructed and arranged so as to be moved by both said toothbrushes from inoperative into operative blocking position by insertion of both said toothbrushes through the corresponding apertures into the corresponding holding means; and spring means p a y te d ng to move said blocking means from operative into inoperative position.

A musical toothbrush holder comprising in combination a casing having a casing wall; spring operated musical means arranged within 7 said casing; a movable member iorming part of said spring operated musical means, said member moving during operation of said musical means but stopping such operation while prevented from moving; two apertures in said casing wall; two holding means, each arranged within said casing under one of said apertures and adapted to hold one toothbrush; and blocking means arranged 1 within said casing tending to be permanently located in inoperative position outside of the path of said movable member and movable from such inoperative'position into operative blocking position located in the path of said movable member preventing movement'of the same, said blocking means constructed and arranged so as to be moved by both said toothbrushes from inoperative into operative blocking position by insertion of both said toothbrushes through the corresponding apertures into the corresponding holding means.

A musical toothbrush holder "comprising in combination a casing having a casing wall; spring operated musical means arranged within said casing; s. movable member forming part of said spring operated musical means, said member moving during operation of said musical means but stopping such operation while prevented from moving; two apertures in said casing wall; two holding means,each arranged within said casing under one of said apertures and adapted to "hold one toothbrush; and blocking means arranged within said casing movably between inoperative positionoutside of the path of said movable member and operative blocking position moved into the path of said movable member preventing movement of the same, said blocking means constructed and arranged so as to project in inoperative position into both said holding means for said toothbrushes so as to be moved by said toothbrushes from inoperative into operative position when both said toothbrushes are inserted through the corresponding apertures into the corresponding holding means.
