1 Claim.

This invention relates to tables, and more particularly to a table which is fully adjustable into horizontal, inclined and vertical positions.

One object of this invention is to provide a device of the above nature wherein universal lateral and vertical adjustment of the table will be secured by the operation of a single hand wheel.

A further object is to provide a device of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to adjust and manipulate, compact, ornamental in appearance, and very efficient and durable in use.

With these and other objects in view, there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawing one form in which the invention may conveniently be embodied in practice.

In the drawing, the single figure is a perspective view showing a modified form of table, which is adapted for use as a students or invalids table.

Referring now to the drawing in which like reference numerals denote corresponding parts.

The drawing shows a table comprising a flat rectangular base 55, and a similar fiat top 55, which are provided respectively with rabbetted edge portions 57, 58, and 59, 60, having slots 6! therein.

The base 55 and the top 56 are adjustably connected by means of two pairs of scissors legs 62, 63 and 64, 65, having oiiset ends 66, each of which carries a guide pin 61 engaged in one of the slots 6|. The ends 66 of the scissors legs are adapted to be clamped in tight frictional engagement with the side edge portions of the base 55 and the top 56 by means of a clamping bolt 68, which is engaged through intersecting portions of the legs 62, 63, 64, 65, and has a hand wheel 69 threaded thereon.

A spacer sleeve 16 is provided upon the bolt 58 between the respective pairs of scissors legs, whereby tightening of the hand wheel 69 will clamp said legs against movement at their intersections. The sleeve 10 is preferably made slightly shorter than the distance between the respective rabbetted edge portions 51, 58 and 59. 50, whereby said sleeve will not interfere with clamping action of the leg ends 66 upon the edge portions of the base 55. and the top 56.

In this invention, it will be noted that the rabbetted edge portions 59 and 66 provide an extension of the top surface of the table over the upper ends of the scissors legs, thereby providing a larger top surface and improving the appearance of the table.

In operation, the fiat top 56 may be adjusted vertically and also horizontally with respect to the base 55 merely by loosening the hand wheel 69. Inasmuch as the slots 6| will permit the base 55 and the top 56 to be adjusted horizontally with respect to the scissors legs 62, 63 and 64, 65, the latter may be disposed adjacent one end of the able so that the top 56 will be supported as a cantilever. Thus, the improved table construction may be used to advantage as an invalids table, an ironing board, or a students table, cofiee or cocktail table, or card table, etc.

When not in use, the table may be collapsed after loosening the hand wheel 69, and will occupy only a small storage space.

While there have been disclosed in this specification one form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this form is shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosures, but may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claim.

Having thus fully described the invention. what is claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is:

An adjustable table comprising a base, a top. and two pairs of adjustable scissors crosslegs; the opposite side edges of said base and said top being ofiset outwardly beyond said crosslegs, the ends of said crosslegs slidably engaging in the oifset extended edges of said base and said top re pectively, and releasable clamping means passing through the pivotal points of said scissors crosslegs for drawing said crosslegs inwardly to cause the ends of said crosslegs to frictionally engage said base and said top, whereby said top may be adjusted and held in different vertical inclined and horizontal positions with relation to said base.
