This invention relates to a device designed for use and positioning on screen doors, the device having means to contain an insect repellent; solution by absorption, to be liberated in the area of the screen door to repel and eradicate insects and prevent the insects from passing into the room or house, when the screen door is opened.

An important object of the invention is to provide a support for the absorbent material which will hang with such respect to the screen door that when the screen door is swung to an open or closed position, the device will be moved through the air causing the insect repellent to become liberated, to accomplish the purpose of the invention.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be cheap to manufacture, and one which may be readily and easily installed on a screen door, by persons unfamiliar with mechanics.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of par-ts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing,

Figure 1 is a fragmental perspective view of a screen door, illustrating an insect repellent device constructed in accordance with the invention, as mounted thereon.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view through the upper portion of a screen door and insect repellent device constructed in accordance with the invention.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates a screen door with which the device forming the subject matter of the present invention is used.

The device comprises a base 6 which may be constructed of any suitable material, such as heavy cardboard or the like which is provided with an opening 1 adjacent to the upper end thereof, the opening being designed to accommodate the supporting cord 8.

The supporting cord 8 is formed into a loop and passed through the screw eye 9 which is positioned in the screen door frame at a point adjacent to the top of the door and preferably intermediate the side edges of the screen door.

Secured to the base 6, is the pad I 0 which is constructed of absorbent material to absorb the insect repellent solution which is used with the device. The solution which has been found most effective is a solution of benzyl benzoate, since this chemical solution is odorless and highly efiicient as a repellent for accomplishing the purpose of the invention.

In the use of the device, the base 6 is properly hung on the door as illustrated by the drawing, and the pad I0 is saturated with the insect repellent solution to be used. It is obvious that as the screen door is opened, the base 6 will swing outwardly together with its absorbent pad ID, with the result that as the pad moves through the air, the air will become permeated with the solution to repel flies, mosquitoes and other objectionable insects, so that when the screen door is opened, the screen door will be free of such insects that ordinarily are attracted to screen doors and enter the room or house, when the doors are opened.

From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, the device may be manufactured at an exceptionally low cost and may be installed by anyone unfamiliar with mechanics.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

An insect repellent device adapted to be positioned on a swinging closure, comprising a base constructed of thin sheet material, a pad mounted on one surface of said base, said pad being constructed of absorbent material adapted to contain an insect repellent solution, one end of the base extending a substantial distance beyond one end of the pad, the end of the base extended beyond the pad having an opening formed therein, a flexible supporting cord extending through the opening, and a screw eye adapted to be extended into the closure with which the device is used, said cord being extended through the screw eye, connecting the device to said screw eye holding the device in spaced relation with the surface of such closure whereby the device swings to and. from the closure with the swinging of the closure.
