3 Claims. 01. 248-101 This invention relates to a bag holder and more particularly to a bag holder of the type to which a bag can be readily attached or detached.

Bags of various types and sizes are used for a multitude of purposes, not the least of these being as a receptacle for objects varying from foodstuffs to theatre tickets. Usually a bag when being used as a receptacle is maintained in an open position until filled and is then removed so that it can either be replaced or emptied and reused. To facilitate the removal and replacement of these bags it is desired that each bag be easily and rapidly attached to a supporting framework and ,just as easily and rapidly detached without spilling the contents. The

present invention deals with a solution to the problem ofproviding an inexpensive bag holder to which a bag can be easily and rapidly attached and detached.

It is the general object of the invention to produce a new and improved bag holder of the character described.

A specific object of this invention is to produce a bag holder to which a bag can be removably attached.

A further object of this invention is to produce a bag holder from which a bag can be readily removed, emptied and replaced.

Another object of this invention is to produce a bag holder that has bag clamps that can be removably slid upon brackets and can detachably clamp a bag so that the clamps can be removed from the brackets and remain on the bag, or can be detached from the bag and remain on the brackets, or can be removed from both the brackets and the bag.

Generally there are bag holders of the type wherein hooks or clamps are permanently secured to the bracket so that the bag must be detached from all the hooks in order to be removed from the holder and also there are bag holders of the type wherein the hooks or clamps are permanently secured to the bag so that the bag can be emptied and replaced without having to remove all the clamps from the bag. The former type permits replace ment of the bag with a new or different bag but requires time to release each clamp or hook. The latter'type permits rapid removal and replacement but when it is necessary to substitute a different bag the hooks must be detached and then attached to the new bag. The present invention provides a bag holder combining the advantages of both of these types and eliminating the disadvantages.

With the bag holder of this invention bag clamps are removably mounted on brackets and a bag can be attached to the clamps either when the clamps are on the brackets or when the clamps are olf the brackets. Therefore, the clamps can be left on the bag so that the bag can be removed, emptied and replaced rapidly or the bag can be unclamped and replaced by a different bag without having to remove the clamps from the brackets.

Other and further advantages and features of the invention will be readily apparent from the following description and drawings, in which:

Fig. 3 is a front elevationalview of the same portion of the bag holder as shown in Fig. 2; and

Fig.4 is a perspective view of a bracket of a bag holder illustrating a modification of the present invention.

While this invention is susceptible of embodiments in many difierent forms, .there is shown in the drawings and will herein be described in detail one specific embodiment, with the understanding that the present disclosure is to be considered as an exemplification of the principles of the invention and is not intended to limit the invention to the embodiment illustrated. The scope of the invention will be pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to Figures 1, 2 and 3 a'bag holder 10 is shown holding a bag 11 in an open position for receiving smaller packages, waste paper, or any other type of material that it is desired to collect in a bag.

In the embodiment illustrated a pair of brackets 12 are mounted on a wall or other supporting structure 13 by any suitable means such as being welded as at 16 to a flange 15 which is attached to the wall by screws 17. Another embodiment is shown in Fig. 4 wherein the bracket 12a is formed with a flange 15a abutting the wall 13 and secured thereto by the screw 1711. Each bracket has a horizontal length 14 extending away from the wall so that the lengths are parallel and spaced apart in a substantially horizontal plane for properly supporting a bag in an open position to receive the particular items to be collected. However, it is to be understood that the brackets may be arranged at any angle or any relationship to cope with the conditions under which the bag is to be used.

The bag 11 is suspended between the lengths 14 by means of clamps 18 having bag clamping portions 19 a which are urged in bag clamping direction by the leaf easily slid onto the lengths either separately when not clamped to a bag or simultaneously when attached to a bag. The clamping portions 19 have fingers 22 extending through the loop springs 20 so that the fingers can be operated as levers to separate the clamping portions against the urging of the loop spring in order to clamp or unclamp the bag.

A bag can be mounted on the bag holder of this invention either by clamping the bag in the clamps while the clamps are on the brackets or by clamping the bag in the clamps and sliding the clamps onto the brackets. With the slidably removable brackets a filled bag can be removed from the brackets, emptied and replaced without having to remove the clamps from the bag by simply sliding the clamps 01f the brackets, and yet in order to substitute a different bag the clamps can be opened while still on the brackets and the new bag clamped in place.

Thus this invention has produced a simple, inexpensive, and efficient bag holder that permits rapid removal and replacement of a bag and yet permits easy removal and substitutionpf a diiferent bag.

I claim:

1. A bag holder, comprising: a support member; a pair of brackets secured to said support member, said pair being spaced apart a substantial distance to allow material to easily pass therebetween and each end of said brackets having a free end; a pair of spring clamps'removably slidable upon said brackets, each said clamp having a spring portion in the form of an interrupted loop for releasably grasping the side of an open bag,

A bag holder, comprising: a support member; a pair of brackets secured to said support member, each bracket having a substantially linear and horizontally extending length, said lengths being parallel andspaced apart a substantial distance to allow material to easily pass therebetween and each of said brackets having a freeend; and a pair of clamps, each having a spring urged portion in the form of an interrupted loop with ends urged into contact for detachably grasping the top of the side of an open bag, the loops being slidable upon the horizontal lengths'for removably suspending the bag between the brackets in an'open position. I

3. A bag holder, comprising: a support member; a

pair of'horizontal brackets secured to said support member, said pair being spaced apart a substantial distance to allow material to easily ,pass therebetween and each end of said brackets having a free end; a pair of bag clamps slidably mountable on said horizontal brackets, each said clamphaving a spring urged bag clamping portion and means for opening the clamping portion so that the clamp can be attached to a bag for removably suspending the bag from the clamps between the brackets;
