(CL 281-3) This invention relates to packets or pads of checks alternated with envelope blanks especially adapted for use in mailing the checks, the alternating checks and envelope blanks being attached to stubs which are joined together 7 and arranged as a filler for a check book or folder;

y In accordance with the invention, a plurality of check forms attached, in the usual manner along perforated "tearlines, to stubs, .are manifolded in alternation with a plurality of folded envelopes forming blanks attached in the same manner to stubs peripherally matching the check stubs, all the stubs being stapled or sewn together,

and to a stiff cardboard or paper flap insertable in a pocket in a checkbook or folder. In one form of filler or insert, the stubs may be omitted.

Each check has a substantially central block for the name and address of the payee, and a second block, in

the upper left hand corner, for the name and address of the payor. Each envelope blank includes a main or face panel of the same size as, and peripherally congruent with, the checks, this main panel having a pair of windows in .the same locations as, and of sizes corresponding to, f the two blanks on the checks.

Each main or face panel has a matching back panel joined 'thereto along a fold line extending along one, longer edge, and a sealing flap joined thereto along a fold line extending along the opposite longer edge. The back panel is joined to the envelope blank stub along a perforated tear line extending along one edge. Side flaps are joined by fold lines to each side edge of the face panel.

As initially provided, the side flaps are folded against the back of the face panel and the latter is folded over the back panel. As the face and back panels are the same size as the checks, a neat appearing book of alternating manifolded checks and envelope blanks is provided.

To use the units, the names and addresses of the payor and payee, and the amount of the check, are written or typed into the designated areas or blocks of the check. The check and the underlying envelope blank are then torn from their stubs, and the check is placed face up against the back of the envelope face panel. The side These windows may be flaps are then folded behind the check, the back panel is folded over the side panels, and the sealing flap is folded over and sealed to the back fiap. The envelope may then be stamped and mailed.

For an understanding of the invention principles, reference is made to the following description of typical embodiments thereof as illustrated in the accompanying drawings. In the drawings:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of one form of manifolded check and envelope assembly embodying the invention, and shows the face of a check;

Fig. 2 is a similar view with the check torn off, and illustrates the face panel of the folded envelope blank;

Fig. 3 is a view, corresponding to Fig. 2, showing the envelope blank opened out;

Fig. 4 is a side elevation view of a check book filler using the checks and blanks of Figs. 1, 2 and 3;

Fig. 5 is a view, similar to Fig. 1, of the face of the check of another embodiment of the invention;

Fig. 6 is a view, similar to Fig. 3, of the opened envelope blank of this embodiment of the invention; and

Fig. 7 is an end elevation view of a check book filler according to Fig. 6.

Referring to Figs. 1-4, an insert 10 for a check book and embodying the invention, is illustrated as comprising a packet or stack of alternated checks 20 and envelope blanks 30. The checks and envelope blanks are removably joined to stubs 25 and 35 alongperforated tear lines 26 and 36, respectively. Stubs 25 and 35 are manifolded together in any desired manner, as by stapling, and are further joined to a stiff flap 15 of paper or cardboard arranged to be inserted into a suitable pocket in a personal check book in the-usual manner of check re-.fills..

Checks 20, in addition to being imprinted in the usual manner with the bank name, place name, check number, date line, numerical and written account lines, and a signatureline, are further imprinted with specifically locatedaddress blocks or areas. One block 21, hereinafter designated as the payee block, is imprinted with three lines to receive the full name and address of the payee. This payee block is located centrally of thecheck face and at the location where the payees name is usually written.

A second address block 22, hereinafter designated as the payor or return address block, is provided at the upper left hand corner of the check face, and is imprinted with lines to receive the full name and address of the payor.

In using check 20, it is filled and signed insthe .usual manner except that the fullname and address of the payee are written or typed in block 21 and the full name and address of the payor are written or typed (or preprinted) in block 22. After stub 25 is filled out, check 20 is torn from the stub along line 26 in the usual manner.

This exposes the immediately underlying envelope blank 30 which includes a back panel 33, a front panel 34,

side flaps 38 and a sealing flap 37. One shorter edge of back panel 33 is connected to stub 35 along perforated tear line 36, and a longer edge of panel 33 is joined to a longer edge of front panel 34 along a fold line 31. Sealing flap 37, which may have a suitable adhesive along its outer margin, is joined to the other longer edge of front panel 34 along a fold line 32. Side flaps 38 are joined to the shorter edges of front panel 34 along fold lines 39, and may, if desired, have a suitable adhesive applied along their peripheral margins.

Front and back envelope panels 33, 34 are substantially the same size as, and substantially peripherally congruent with check 20. In the normal state of unit 10, sealing flap 37 and side flaps 38 are folded against front panel 34, and the front panel is folded against the rear panel. This provides a folded envelope unit of substantially the same area as check 20.

In accordance with the invention, front panel 34 is formed with a substantially central, rectangular opening or window '41 of the same size as, and located correspondingly to, payee block 21 of check 20. Panel 34 is further provided with a substantially rectangular opening or window 42 in its upper left corner of the same size as, and located correspondingly to, payor block t are exposed through windows 41, 42, respectively. Side flaps 38 are then folded about lines 39, ever check 20,

and rear panel 33 is folded over flaps 38 and check 20 about line 31. Finally, sealing flap 3'] is folded over back panel 33 and sealed thereto. When a stamp is placed on front panel 34, the unit is ready for mailing.

6 and 7 differs from that of Figs; '1 4 essentially onlyin :thattheunit 110 of Figs. 5, 6 21 147 has a cardboard flap 115 extending from a longer edge of the unit. Unit 110 isintended for use 'witha pocket check book of thetype including a separate insert for accounting purposes.

Referring to Figs. -7, unit 110 includes checks 120 and envelope forming blanks 130 stacked in alternation.

Checks 120 are joined along their upper edges to narrow elongated stubs 125, the joints comprising perforated :tear lines 126. Similar envelope forming units 130 have -a.:;=longer edge joined, along a perforated tear line- 136,

topa narrow elongated stub 135. Stubs 125 and ,135 are stapled or otherwise bound to eachother and to flap 115.

In the same manner as check 20, check 120 has imprinted thereon a payees name and address block 121 :and a payors name and address block 122. What is claimed is:

' l. A' multi-leaved insert for a check book comprising, in combination, a plurality of checks; a plurality of first stubs each attached to a check along a perforated tear line; a plurality of envelope-forming blanks; a plurality of second stubs each attached to a blank along a perforated tear line; said checks and blanks being superposed in alternating relation to form said insert and said stubs substantially conforming in size and shape to each other; a flap of relatively stiff material adapted for ineertion in the pocket of a check book and positioned at 4 the underside of said insert; and means binding said first and second stubs to each other and to said flap; each check having imprinted substantially centrally of its face a block for the payees name and address; each envelopeforming blank including a rear panel, which is so attached to a second stub, and having substantially the size and shape of said checks a front panel joined by a fold line along one longer edge to said rear panel and having substantially the size and shape of said checks, extensions joined to the shorter edges of said front panel along fold lines for folding about a check to form a mailing envelope for the latter and a sealing flap joined by a fold line to the other longer edge of the front panel; said extensions and sealing flap being normally folded over said front panel and said front panel being normally folded over said rear panel so that the thus folded blank conforms to the checks in the bound check book; said front panel having a window positioned to expose the payees name and address block on a check when said front panel issuperposed on a check after the check and the underlying envelope blank have been severed from their respective stubs. l

2. An insert as claimed in claim 1 in which each check has a second block, imprinted on its face adjacent the upper left-hand corner thereof, for the payors name and address; and said front panel has a correspondingly located window for exposure of said second block.

3. An insert as claimed in claim 1 in which said rear panel is joined to a second stub along a perforated tear line extending along a shorter edge of said rear panel.

4. An insert as claimed in claim 1 in which said rear panel is joined to a second stub along a perforated tear -li.ne extending along the opposite longer edge ofsaid rear panel.
