4 Claims. (Cl. 248101) My invention relates to an improvement in a holder for paper bags and more particularly to a holder for a supply of paper bags which has means for opening and closing the outermost bag so that the same may be used as a depository for articles, refuse and the like.
It is an object of my invention to provide a holder for bags having means for holding a supply of bags tightly compressed and also means for opening and closing the outermost bag together with means for easily detaching the outermost bag for disposing of the same with the next supported bag ready for easy attachment to the opening and closing means.
I shall not here attempt to set forth and indicate all of the various objects and advantages incident to my in vention, but other objects and advantages will be referred to in or else will become apparent from that which follows.
The invention will appear more clearly from the fol lowing detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, showing by way of example a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my bag holder shown as mounted on the lower edge portion of the dashboard of an automobile with the outermost bag in opened position, and the clamping members shown in open position in broken lines.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the holder shown in Figure l with the outermost bag in closed position.
Figure 3 is an end view of my bag holder with the outermost bag in opened position.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawings in detail, my bag holder A includes the inverted channel shaped frame member 10 formed of the top portion 11, the depending front wall portion 12 and the depending rear wall portion 13. The top portion 11 of the channel member 10 is formed with the slot 14 through which the clamp arm 15 extends. The clamp arm 15 is tightened upon the lip 16, for example, of the automobile dashboard 17 by means of the screw member 18 to thereby mount the channel member 10. Further provided is the U-shaped support rod member 19 formed of the cross-bar portion 20 and the side rod members 21 and 22. The side members 21 and 22 of the U-shaped support member 19 are slidably positioned within spaced holes 23 and 24 formed through the front and rear wall portions 12 and 13 respectively.
The numerals 25 and 26 designate a pair of spaced clamps each formed of the horizontal portion 27 and tions 12 and 13 respectively. The-clamping portion-28 of-eaeh of the clamps 25 and. 26 is urged toward the .wall portion 12 into clamping position by means of a coil spring 31 interposed between the wall 12: and the stop shqulder 32 fixed to the horizontal portion. 27.
I further provide the cover portion 33 for the'bar'portion 20 of the U-shaped support member which is formed of portion of flexible tubingsemi-circular in. erosssection and forced upon the bar 20.-,to grippingly engagethe bar. The numeral 34 designates a supply of paper bags placed in flattened stacked condition against the front wall portion 12, while the numeral 35 designates the outermost bag. Each of the paper bags has the spaced holes 36 and 37 punched through the front bag portion 38, the bellowed side portions 39 and 40 and the rear portion 41.
The side member 21 of the support 19 is inserted through the holes 36 of the bags, and the side member 22 of the support 19 is inserted through the holes 37 of the bags. The clamping portions 28 of the clamps 25 and 26 are placed upon the wall 41 of the outermost bag 35 to hold the wall 41 and the supply of bags 34 tightly against the wall 12 of the frame 10. The top edge 35' of the outer wall 38 of the bag 35 is placed on the bar 20 and under the gripping engagement of the flexible tubing member 33 to thereby hold the Wall 38 to the bar 20. With the bag 35. supported in such a manner, the bag may be opened by pulling out on the bar portion 20 of the slidable support rod member 19 which pulls out only the wall 38 thereby opening the bag 35. In this condition objects may easily be placed in the bag. The bag is closed by simply pushing inwardly on the bar 20, with the side rods 21 and 22 sliding through the respective holes 23 and 24.
The bag 35 may be removed by simply tearing it from the member 19 or removed intact by pivotally lifting the clamping portions 28 to the position shown in broken lines in Figure 1 whereby the support 19 may be slidably removed from the holes in the support 10 with the bag thereon and the bag then removed from the support and from under the semi-tubular cover member 33. In further using my device, the front wall of the outermost bag of the supply 34 is pulled outwardly, and the top edge thereof is secured under the cover member 33 on the bar 20 in the manner hereinbefore mentioned.
The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details set forth since these may be modified within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters'Patent is:
1. In a channel bag holder and opener, a frame member having a top portion and depending spaced front and rear wall portions, a U-shaped support member having a crossbar portion and spaced side portions extending therefrom, said side members of said U-shaped support member slidably mounted on said front and rear wall portions of said channel frame member, means for clamping one or more bags on said frame member, means for slidably mounting bags on said side members of said U- shaped support member, and means for attaching the upper edge of the outermost wall of the outermost bag to said cross-bar portion of said U-shaped support whereby the same may be moved to thereby open or close the mouth of the outermost bag.
2. In a channel bag holder and opener, a frame member having a top and depending side walls, a U shaped support member including a cross-bar and spaced side members extending therefrom to which a supply of bags is connected, said side walls of said frame member having spaced holes formed therein and in which said side members are slidably positioned, a pair of clamping members pivotally mounted on said frame rnember and adapted to clamp the supply of bags against said frame and the inner wall of the inner wall of the outermost bag with the outermost wall of said outermost bag connected to said cross bar of said U-shaped member whereby the outermost bag is opened upon pulling said cross bar from said frame.
3. In a bag for a bag holder and opener, said bag having front, back and pleated side walls, said front, back and pleated side walls having spaced holes formed there through in alignmentadapted to receive spaced rod members of said holder for supporting the bag and on which sazilcll1 front wall may be slidably spaced from said back w 4. In a bag for a bag holder and opener, said bag having front, back and pleated side walls, said front, back and pleated side walls having holes formed therethrough adjacent the outer and upper edge of said front and back walls and adjacent the upper edge of said pleated side walls, all of said holes being in alignment and adapted to receive spaced rod members of said holder for supporting the bag and on which said front wall may be slidably spaced from said back wall.
