However, should it be desired not to activate the whistle, then the band 41 is retated upon the tube 11 to a position so that its aperture 42 is out of regisry with the whistle outlets 36-437 and portions of said band close off said whistle outlets. A suitable stop means is also employed limiting rotary movements of band 41 to either open or closed positions of the whistle to give the user a positive means of determining this condition.
In the present preferred'embodiment ofthe invention a pair of dimples 43-44 are formed outwardly upon the outer surface of tube 11 in spaced relation. At the ends of aperture 42, upright end wall portions 45 and 46 are bent normally inward, as shown in Fig. 5, adapted for registry with dimples ,43-44 respectively. This provides positive stopping means for rotation of band 41 for opening and closing the whistle out-lets.
The series ofsupport means 38 and 39 arranged in pairs, stnuck'out from tube wall 11 and reverse turned, provide a convenient slide support for the rotatable band 41.
There is accordingly provided a very effective defensive weapon or device w hich delivers an eflective quantity of powder out of chamber 34 and through apertures 14 and 19.
This powder will temporarily and severely interfere with the vision of the would-be assailant and the dye on contact will effectively mark him and his clothing for identification. If the user also desires to make an audible signal, all that is necessary would be to rotate the band 41 to the open position shown in Fig. so that at the same time as powder is ejected the whistle will be blown.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A defensive device comprising a tube with a first wall at one end having a series of spaced first apertures 'therethrough, a cup-shaped valve rotatively mounted on and secured to said tube over said first wall and including a second wall registering with said first wall, having a series of spaced second apertures therethrough registerable with said first apertures and rotatable on said tube to a position out of registry, a second tube snugly nested within .said first tube with a third wall at its inner end having a third aperture therethrough, and spaced from said first wall, a transverse flexible rubber disc mounted and secured upon said third wall defining with said first wall a chamber adapted tostore a.quantity of powder, said disc having a normally closed :slit therethrough registering with said third aperture and openable upon the application'of air under pressure directed through the opposite end of said second tube, and a partition within said second tube extending throughout its length defining with said third aperture .an air passage, and with said third wall a closed air passage, a portion of the side wall of said second tube being bent inwardly providing a lateral opening in said closed passage defining a whistle,
there being a corresponding outlet opening in said first within said first tube with a third wall at its inner end.

A defensive device comprising a tube with a first wall at one end having a series of spaced first apertures therethrough, a cup-shaped valve rotatively mounted on and secured to said tube over said first wall and including a second wall registering with said first wall, having a series of spaced second apertures therethrough registerable with said first apertures and rotatable on said tube to a position out of registry, a second tube snugly nested within said first tube with a third wall at its inner end having a third aperture therethrough, and spaced from said first wall, a transverse flexible rubber disc mounted and secured upon said third wall definingwith said first wall a chamber adapted to store a quantity of powder, said disc having a normally closed slit therethrouigh registering with said third aperture and openable upon the application of air under pressure directed through the opposite end of said second tube, a partition within said second tube extending throughout its length definingwith said third aperture an air passage, and with said third wall a closed air passage, a portion of the side wall of said second tube being bent inwardly providing a lateral opening in said closed passage defining a whistle, there being a corresponding outlet opening in said first tube registering with said lateral opening, an annular band rotatably mounted on said'first tube over said outlet opening normally closing the same, there being a transverse aperture through said band adapted for registry with said outlet opening and movable out of registry therewith, and cooperating stop means between said first tube and band regulating its arc of rotation for open and closed positions relative to said whistle.
