WINDOW-SHADE PULL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,483, dated May 27, 1884. i Application inea April 1s, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LANG, of
` Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade Pulls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an ilnprovement in pulls designed to be attached to a stick in the lower edge of a window-shade, so as to form a convenient means for pulling down the shade and at the same time an ornamental attachment to the same; and the invention consists of a tubular bar having transverse mortises for the insertion of eyes or links, which are passed through such mortises and retained in the bar'by a rod or wire within the same The tubular bar is provided with end tips that are screwed to the interior rod. The end tips have cup-shaped bases that are sprung on the tubular bar. The outer parts of the eyes or links attached to the bar are suspended by hooks from the eyes attached to the stick of the shade.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view, partly in section, of my ilnproved window-shade pull; and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a metal tube, which forms the bar of my improved shade-pull. The tube is preferably split longitudinally throughout its entire length. Through the tube A passes centrally a rod, B, whichis screw-threaded at each end, and provided with ornamental end tips, C C, that are screwed onto the ends of the rod B. The rod B is also passed through eyes or links-a a, which are inserted through transverse mortises or slots b b of the bar A, and suspended by hooks D from screw-eyes (Z of the stick of .the window-shade E. The end tips, C, have cup-shaped bases that are sprung on the ends of the split tubular bar A when the tips have been tightly screwed up against the ends of the bar A, so that the parts are held rigidly together. The meeting edges of the split bar A are preferably located at the bottom, so as to be out of sight.
In disengaging the pull from the shade to clean it, or for any other purpose, the bar A is lnoved up at one side close to the stick, and one suspension-hook detached from its screweye d, after which the other suspension-hook can be readily disengaged. By reversing the operation the shade-pull is attached again. The hooks D engage the screw-eyes d in the stick of the shade, the hook ends facing each other, so as to prevent them from becoming disengaged by the lateral motion of the pull.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. lThe combination, with a tubular shade bar or pulley having transverse slots or mortises, of links or eyes passing through said mortises, and a rod within the tubular bar for securing the links thereto, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a tubular shadebar, of a central rod passing through the bar, andof end tips attached to the ends of the rod, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with a tubular shadebar, of eyes or links passing through mortises of the bar, a rod within the bar for holding same, and end tips attached to the ends of the rod, substantially as described.
4. The combination, in a shade-pull, of a tubular bar, links or eyes passing through mortises of the bar, a rod passing longitudinally through said bar and said links or eyes, and end tips attached to the ends of the rod, substantially as set forth.
5. The combination of atubular bar having transverse mortises, eyes or links passing through said Inortises, a rod passing through said bar and said eyes or links, and end tips attached to the ends of said rod and fitting Y by cup-shaped bases over the ends of the bar, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
VILLIAM LANG.
