Description

(Remodel) E. G. FE-BRIN.
KITCHEN IMPLEMENT.
No. 301,704. Patented July 8, 1884.
I m VENTOH M 7&4 Attorney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDITH o.- FERRIN, OF BATH, MAINE.
KITCHEN IMPLEMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 301,704, dated July 8, 1884.
Application filed December 3, "1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDITH O. FERRIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bath, in the county ofSagadahoc and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful, Improvements in Kitchen Implements, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Figure l isa plan view of this device. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section on line w :0 of Fig. 1. r
This invention relates to improvements in that class of devicesknown as household or kitchen implements; and the novelty consists in the details of the construction, all as will now bemore fully set out and explained.
In the drawings, A denotes a rim of wire bent in any desired form, now shown in parallelogram and with rounded corners.
B is a wire brace made of two wires, 1) b, twisted upon each other at or near their midlength, one wire being turned down and twisted so as to form a. leg or support, 0, in the center of the device. Near the ends each wire is again turned down and twisted to form legs or supports near the corners of the device. At
their outer ends the wires are bent over or otherwise suitably secured upon the rim A. This is now shown as done at the rounded corners.
If preferred, there may be any desired number of parallel and crossed wires e and f, which can be secured at their ends upon the rim A,
and interwoven with each other. The device may also have a handle, if desired. In use the. device is placed on its legs 0 C, and offers a good rest for platesand like articles.
This device is of great value in the kitchen, as a stand or rest to place pie-plates upon as they come hot from the oven. The stand being a mere open frame allows free circulation of air all around the outside of the pie and plate, so that-the cooling process goes on very quickly. The pie is much improved by this rapid cooling, as in a great degree all sogginess in the bottom crust is prevented.
The stand or'rest can be used to advantage as a support on which to place dishes after they are washed, so that the moisture may readily drip off them.
The device is easily and cheaply made, is exceedingly useful, and very desirable.
Having now described my invention, what I consider new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described plate-rest, consisting of an outer rim A, having bracing and connecting wires b b, secured to it, said wires being twisted upon each other at or near their mid-length, and also having twisted projections O O for legs or supports, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof Iaftix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
1 EDITH O. FERRIN.
