(Cl. 12g- 76) The present invention relates to a nasal appliance in the form of a brace for changing the appearance and contour o the human nose.

An object o the present invention is to provide a nasal appliance or brace for the purpose of changing the contour of a human nose so that the person has a more pleasing appearance.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a nasal appliance which is easily inserted into and withdrawn from either of the cavities or both of the cavities ot the human nose, one which can be worn comfortably and without distress, one which is very effective in chang ing the contour of the human nose so as to improve the appearance of the human, and one which may have lasting etccts in changing the contour of the nose.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a nasal appliance or nose correction brace which may be manufactured in quantity at reasonable cost from plastics, stainless steel, and the like, one which is substantially obscured from view when worn by a human, and one which is highly effective in action.

These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the annexed drawing, in which:

Referring in greater detail to the drawing, in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the reference numeral 11i in FIGURE 1 designates generally the human nose and the reference numeral l?. designates one of the cavities of the nose lil.

The device of the present invention is designated generally by the reference numeral 14 and it consists in a housing 16 having one end closed by a plate 13 and having the other end provided with an opening Ztl.

A compressible and expandable spring 22 is disposed within the housing 16 and has one end abutting the plate 13 and has its other end inwardly and spaced from the open end of the housing 16.

Patented @et 29, i963 ice A plunger 24 extends slidably through the opening 26 and has a head 26 on one end thereof abutting the end ot the spring remote from the plate TLS.

On the other end of the plunger 24 remote from the head 'Z6 is a ilat protuberance 2S sealed within a resilient pad 3d partially oiset with respect to the longitudinal axis of the plunger 24, as shown in FlGURE 4.

The end plate )lil is also covered with a pad 32 fabricated of rubber, soft plastic or the like. The pad 39 is similarly fabricated.

The housing 16 is of rectangular cross-sectional configuration and the head 26 is conformably shaped to fit within the housing 16. Preferably the spring 22 is fabricated with fiat sections entirely lling the housing 16 below the head 26, as shown in FGURE 2.

The plunger 2d is provided with a hole or recess 3d adiacent the protuberance 2d and Ithe housing 16 is provided with a hole 3o on the same side of the housing 16 as the hole 34.

As shown in FGUEE 7, the hole 34 and the hole 35 receive the free ends of the legs 3S and ed of a bifurcated tool 42, such as a pair of tweezers or the like, so that the plunger may be forced to the dottedline position by compressing the legs 3S and il together and for manipulating the device of the present invention into the nostril of a human being as shown in FGURE l.

in use, one of the devices of the present invention is inserted in each cavity in the human nose and this may be done by either using the tool 42 or using the fingers as preferred. As shown in FGURE l, the device expands to press the iiesh of the forward part of the nose outwardly to change the contour of the nose. The arcuate curve of the housing and plunger is such that the device may be inserted against the wall of the nose and when so inserted it will be relatively inconspicuous and will conform to the shape of the cavity without interfering with the breathing of the individual employing the same.

What is claimed is:

A nasal appliance comprising a housing having one end closed and the other end open, a compressible and expandible spring disposed within said housing and having one end abutting the closed end of said housing and having the other end inwardly of and adjacent the other end of said housing, a plunger entendinfy slidably through the open end oi said housing and having one end in abutting engagement with said other end of said spring, a

rst resilient pad on the other end of said plunger, said pad being partially oliset with respect to the longitudinal axis of said plunger, and a second resilient pad on the closed end of said housing, said housing and said plunger each being provided with a hole for the insertion thereinto of the free end of the leg of a bifurcated tool.
