FRAZEE B. MCGREGOR, OF COMMERCE, MICHIGAN.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 32,574, dated J une 18, 1861.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRAZEE B. MCGREGOR, of Commerce, in the county of Oakland and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Device t'or Raising Vater; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making' a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perpendicular section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal plan. Fig. 3 is a view of the double ratchet wheels and pawls.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention `I will proceed to describe it.
A, is a common curb with a windlass B, which is surrounded with a row of points or projections C, which points take into the links of a flat chain- 1): YOn eachf end of said chain is fastened a' bucket E, provided with short bars F, F, which are placed across the inside of the bucket below the edge.
G, G, are two stationary hooks fastened to the edge of the receiving trough H, which is connected with the spout as seen by the dott-ed lines.
I is a double ratchet wheel provided with pawls J, J, which are connected by a bail K.
The operation of the device will be readily seen, 'or when one of the buckets is raised opposite the receiving trough H, the edge of the bucket comes in Contact 'with one of the hooks G, Gr, and as it is canted over, the end of the hook catches overthe cross bar F, whereby the edge of the bucket is brought inside of the edge of the receiving trough H, and held there until all the water contained in it is discharged when by changing over the pawls J, J, and reversing the motion of the windlass said bucket is lowered into the well and the other one brought up when it goes through the same operation.
l do not claim broadly an arrangement for causing two buckets to empty themselves into one receiving trough; but l I do claim as new and desire'to secure by Letters Patentl. The arrangement of the receiving trough with the windlass B, hooks G, buckets E, and short bars F, in the manner and for the purpose hereinshown and described; and in combination therewith I claim- 2. The arrangement of the bail K with the pawls J J, and double ratchet wheel L in the manner and for the purpose herein shown and described.
FRAZEE B. MGGREGOR.
