20 A is the shackle, which is of thin sheet metal, and B is the seal-disk, which is east with a rear projection, b, and an orifice, a, that extends back into projection b, and the roof of the orifice is provided with a shoul- 25 der, a. A pin, 0, is cast in the upper portion of disk B, as shown in Fig. 3, and the projecting portion of this pin is serrated or roughened, as shown, that it may be more secure when driven.
c The operation of my device is as follows:
4,0 I). The device after this is ready for the market, and when it is to be used the free end of the shackle is passed through or around the objects to be sealed, and is then slipped into the seal-disk on top of the secured portion,
5 and then, by means of a punch or press, the
pin 0 is forced through the upper portion of the seal, the two ends of the shackle, and into the metal beneath, carrying a burr from the roof of the orifice into the hole made by the pin in the upper end of the shackle. The two ends of the shackle will now be held so securely in the seal-disk that it will be impossible to remove them without mutilation sufficient to indicate that the seal has been tampered with. By means of the shoulder a and the metal back of it I am enabled to con- 1 fine the lower end of the shackle so thatflit" will not bulge or crimp while its corners are being bent, for if it did crimp or bulge it would hinder the inserting of the upper end of the shackle.
As the shoulder a forms a stop for the upper end of the shackle, and the rear end of projection being closed forms a stop for the lower end of the shackle, neither can pass into the disk any farther than a stated distance, and therefore there is no liability of their passing in so far as to cover any detective marks that may be on the shackle.
Having thus fully described my invention, 1
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a sealing device, a disk having a threading-aperture and a shoulder depending from the roof of the aperture, in combination with a shackle, one end of which passes beyond said shoulder, while the other abuts against it, and a securingpin, as set forth.
2. A sealing-disk having a rear slotted projection to receive the lower end of the shackle, and a shoulder to receive the upper end, in combination with the shackle and securingpin, substantially as described.
8. The combination, with the sealing-disk and shackle, of a roughened pin cast with the sealing-disk.
