Be it known that 1, JOHN J.VAN LEEUWEN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain Improvements in Translucent Picture-Candy, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide, as an article of manufacture, plates of candy having characters or figures indented in one side thereof, so that when the candy is held up to the light the character or figure will appear in shaded lines.
In carrying out this invention, I take thin plates or sheets of pure white candy, about one-eighth of an inch being a suitable thickness for the plate, and in one side thereof I form recesses or indentations which have any desired arrangement and depth. The mate rial being translucent, when it is held. up to the light between the eyes of the observer and the source of light some light will pass through the material. The indentations are of various shades.
depths, and the deep indentations form light shades and the shallow indentations form dark These indentations are arranged according to any desired design, and. when the light is allowed to fall on the back of the candy the design will appear in shaded lines. Any desired characters or figures may be made in the candy, and the picture will appear very.
distinctly and with a very soft shading.
The plates of candy may be rectangular, circular, or of any other desired shape.
What I claim as my invention is As an article of manufacture, a translucent candy having characters or figures indented therein to different depths, so that when the candy is held up to the light the character or figure will appear in shaded lines, substan- 4o tially as described.
