NITED TATES WVILLIAM E. COLEMAN, OF SGHOOLEYS MOUNTAIN, NEV JERSEY.
DRINKING STRAW OR TUBE HOLDER FOR TUMBLERS OR OTHER GLASSES.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 344,567, dated June 29, 1886.
Application filed March 11, 1886. Serial No. 194,912. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,W1LLIAM E. COLEMAN, of Schooleys Mountain, in the county of Morris and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Drinking Straw or Tube Holder for Tumblers and other Glasses, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists in a holder, substantially as hereinafter described, for the support and retention of drinking straws on or in glasses of different kinds for imbibing beverages by suction on application of the mouth of the drinker to the outer end of the straw or straws.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 represents a View in perspective of the straw-holderwith straws therein in posi' tion on or in a glass ready for use, and Fig. 2 a perspective View of the straw-holder detached.
A is the straw-holder, which is in the form of a clamp, that inay be of any desired ornamental design, and may be made from a single piece of spring sheet metal suitably cut and bent to form afront lower clip, I), and back lower clips, 0, adapted to straddle or fit over the rim of a tumbler or glass, B, and to rest or hold on to the same. The upperportion of the holder may be set slight1y inclining outward in an upward direction, and is bent over in front, on its opposite sides, to form tubular sockets or clamps d d for support'and retention of the drinking-straws s s when passed down therethrough.
A drinking-straw holder constructed and applied as shown and described will be found very useful in bar-rooms and elsewhere for imbibing summer and other beverages through a straw or straws. Thus the drinking-straws will be prevented from falling out of the glass both when the-latter is at rest and when moving it about from place to place. The straws may be supported in the glass without coming in contact with the bottom of the glass, thus keeping them clear of any sediment that may be deposited in the glass.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As a new article of manufacture, a holder for drii'iking-straws, having its lower end cut or divided in an upward direction, and having its cut portions so formed bent forwardly and backwardly, respectively, as to straddle the rim of the glass, and provided with one or more upper tubular sockets or clamps for holding the straw or straws projected. down there through, substantially as specified.
2. The straw-holder A, constructed with lower front and rear clips,b c, and with upper tubular sockets or clamps, d d, essentially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
WILLIAM E. COLEMAN.
