A6311 23/02 U.S. Cl. 4693 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An adjustably sinka'ble toy boat including a hollow hull, an opening through the bottom of the hull adjustably closable by a vertical plug having an upper portion threadingly engaging a superstructure of the hull, and the plug having a convenient rotatable control knob at its upper end.

This invention relates to toys, and more particularly a toy boat.

It is therefore the main purpose or" this invention to provide a toy boat which is suitably adapted to place on the surface of water to provide amusement and joy to the persons engaged in playing with said boat.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy boat having water admission and air vent means for admitting a predetermined level of water into the main body of said boat for preventing it from tilting over or overturning.

Another object of this invention is to provide a toy boat having means to carry simulated cargo.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a toy boat which may be mass produced, may be inexpensively priced, is of educational value to the youngsters, is of sturdy construction, and is designed to provide maximum amusement to its users.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

According to this invention, a toy boat is provided with a hollow main body or hull 11, the bottom portion thereof having a wall '12 reinforced with an upwardly disposed, spliced guidance member 12 prime. A suitably contoured part or deck portion 13 is provided with a generally rectangular opening 14 having upwardly disposed lips for snuggly admitting a cover member 19 which, for playful purposes, shall be known as hole or cargo cover. The center portion of top 13 is provided with a hole 15 for suitably supporting a simulated mast member 21. The remaining portion 13 prime assumes step-like contours which are designed to simulate living quarters for olficers and screw. An upwardly extending threaded projection 16 is secured to the upper most extremity of portion 13 prime for lockingly supporting and inwardly Patented June 24, 1 969 threaded knob 17. An elongated control stem 18 is extending from the inward center portion of knob 17 for regulating intake of water into hull '1-1.

It will also be noted that, in operation, the outer most pit of stem 18 is generally positioned within the spliced guidance member 12 prime and the bottom hole 12. However, if it is desired to admit a predetermined amount of water into hull 11 for the purpose of stabilizing boat 10, or to sink said boat for playful purposes, knob 17 is to be turned so that stem 18 is disengaged from hole 12 and guidance member 12 prime. If, on the other hand, it is desired to clean the inside portion of hull 11, top or deck portion 13, may be conveniently removed by outward bending of the overlapping edge portions 20 (see the drawing).

One possible vent to allow discharge of air from within the hull could comprise a vent hole in the neck '16 below the lowermost thread and above the lowermost portion of cap 17.

It is suggested that many changes or alterations could be made in the above described specifications without deviating from the spirit and scope of this invention. It is therefore intended that all matter contained in the above specification or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

What I now claim is:

1. A toy boat comprising in combination, a hull, the bottom portion of said hull provided with a hole, a reinforced guidance member enclosing said hole within the interior of said hull, a contoured deck portion snuggly attached to the edges of said hull, an opening within said deck portion, a cover for closing said opening of said deck portion, the elevation portion of said deck portion being provided with a hole and a vent, a control means received within said opening of said elevated portion and said hole and said guidance member of said hull and air exhaust for regulating the intake of water into said hull.

2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein a threaded projection extending from said elevated portion of said deck, said projection including a wall which is concentric with said hole of said elevated portion for receiving said control member therein.

The combination according to claim 1, wherein said control member includes a cylindrical knob having a hollow threaded portion and elongated rod secured to the center portion of the interior of said knob, and the threaded portion of said knob adapted to engage the threaded section of said projection for lockingly securing said knob thereon.

4. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said deck portion being provided with downwardly extending edge member for snuggly superimposing said deck portion on the upper most segment of said hull.
