A611 13/16, 13/18 U.S. Cl. 128-284 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Babys diaper with moisture absorbing element and support therefor, the moisture absorbing element being permanently or removably carried by the support, and fastening means removably securing the supporting element on the baby.

This invention relates in general to diapers for babies and particularly to a diaper comprising a combination of a moisture absorbing element and a supporting element therefor, with fastening means on the supporting element for removably securing the supporting element on the baby.

The form of diaper commonly used for years, namely, the triangular form, has numerous disadvantages, primarily that of inability to be smoothly applied to the baby; the bulkiness when washing numerous diapers at one time; the chafing and subsequent diaper rash which may result if proper care is not taken; the inconvenience in the use of safety pins and danger to the baby if they are not properly fastened or if they become unfastened; or the difficulty in so securing the diaper so as to retain it in fastened position.

To overcome these and other disadvantages too numerous to mention, it is the primary object of my invention to provide a diaper which employs a supporting element with means for securing said supporting element on the baby, and means on the supporting element to hold an absorbent element either in a permanent or removable manner.

It is a second object to provide such a diaper with an absorbent element disposed internally of the supporting element, in one form thereof said elements being made either of a material for reuse or an inexpensive material which may be disposable.

These and other objects as well as the manner of forming the invention, and its use and advantages will be better understood by reference to the following description in connection with the accompanying drawing in which:

FIG. 1 is a plan view of one form of the invention.

FIG. 2 is a similar view of another form of the invention.

FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the form in FIG. 1 as applied to a baby.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of my invention in which elastic means are employed for holding the device on the wearer.

Referring now to the drawing by numerals of reference, the invention comprises in one form thereof what I call a supporting element 1, preferably elongated as shown and provided with loop elements 2 secured thereto, shown in oppositely disposed relation to each other and located at one end of said supporting element. At the other end of the supporting element are fastened oppositely disposed tie elements 3 adapted to engage the loops as shown in FIG. 3, to properly support the diaper on the baby. Although the elements 2 and 3 are shown as loop and tie elements it is obvious that they could employ a plurality of snaps fixed thereto or longitudinally adjustable or a form of buckle could be used.

In one form of my invention the supporting element 1 may be of seamed or seamless tubular form having an absorbent element 4 therewithin, said absorbent element 3,483,864 Patented Dec. 16, 1969 4 preferably being sewn about its periphery 5 to one side of the tubular shaped supporting element 1.

At the ends of the tubular supporting element 1 are tapered extensions 6, the transversely extending loop elements 2 and tie elements 3 being shown secured to the tapered extension inwardly from the extreme ends 1' of said tapered extensions.

In a modified form of my invention shown in FIG. 2 the elongated supporting element 11 may be somewhat elliptical in form with truncated ends 11'. The loop elements 12 and the elements 13 are secured to the supporting element 11 close to the ends 11' thereof.

Spaced straps 14 are secured at their ends to the supporting element 11 and located thereon inwardly from the loop and tie elements 12 and 13.

Receivable by said strap elements 14 is the moisture absorbent element 15 made of toweling or any suitable absorbent material which may be washable and reusable or may be disposable.

Additional tie elements 16 may be employed and may be secured to the supporting element 11 inwardly from the strap elements 14, said tie elements 16 also being adapted to serve as auxiliary strap elements by securing same only at points 17 rather than throughout their entire length, where they are in proximation with the supporting element.

In the form shown in FIG. 4, elastic means 18 are used in place of ties or strap elements, the absorbent element and its manner of support being substantially the same as before, the back portion 19 being shown somewhat wider than the front portion 20.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a new and novel form of diaper which may be disposable or not and which is simple to apply on the baby eliminating the bulk and discomfort of the present day form of diapers.

Obviously, changes in form or proportion may be made in my invention without departing from the spirit thereof and I reserve all rights to such changes as come within the scope of these specifications and the claims which follow.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letter Patent is:

1. A diaper comprising a moisture absorbent element, a supporting element for said moisture absorbent element, fastening members at oppositely disposed ends of the supporting element, respective fastening members securable to each other when in fastening relation, said fastening members comprising loop elements at one end of the supporting element and tie elements at the opposite end of the supporting element receivable by the loop elements, the loop elements and tie elements being transversely disposed respectively at the extreme ends of said supporting element, at least one transverse strap being disposed inwardly from each end of the supporting element, and auxiliary transverse tie members located inwardly from the transverse straps.

2. The diaper as specified in claim 1, said fastening members being elastic.

3. The diaper as specified in claim 1, said last-named tie members comprising auxiliary straps for removably receiving the moisture absorbent element.
