SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,774, dated October 12, 1886.

Application filed February 17, 1866.

Serial X0. 193,523. (N

0 model.) Patented in England November 17, 1885, No. 14,066.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARL SEEL, a resident of Barmen, Prussia,Ger1nan Empire, asubject of the King of Prussia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scale-Buttons, (for which I have received Letters Patent in Great Britain, No. 14,066, of November 17, 1885,) of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the construction of buttons to be used in themanufacture of dresstrimmings, and to the construction of trimmings from such buttons; and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a face view of a trimming embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear view of one of the buttons detached. Figs. 4, 5, (i, and 7 are detailed views of parts.

Similar letters indicate similar parts.

The letter A designates a series of buttons, the face of which may be made of any desirable material and may be ornamented in any desired manner, and B a tape or band connecting together said buttons in a substantially-straight row to form a trimming. The

metrical and substantially'rigid position on the trimming thus produced.

In the example shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the eye or loop D is formed in one piece with the back Cnamely, by providing the back with parallel slits or incisions at the required points, and striking up the part between such slits. This construction is of advantage for cheapness; but, if desirable, the eye or loop may be made of a separate piece of material, as shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, and secured to the back in an appropriate manner.

In the example shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the loop 0 is provided with projections, which are interposed between the front and back of the button, Fig. 7, Whereas the loop shownin Fig. 5 is left plain, to be secured on the face of the back by solder or other similar means.

It will be noticed that the trimming ob tained by my invention can be entirely finished without the use of needle and thread as in ordinary dress-trimmings.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A dress-trimming composed of a series of buttons, each having a substantially-flat back provided with a flat projecting eye or loop, which is eccentric to the button, in combination with a tape or band extending through the eyes of said buttons, as shown, to hold the same in a row, one overlapping the other.
