Description

Aug. 18, 1970 c. GREGORY ANTI-SLIP BAND AND THE LIKE Filed Oct. 4. 1968 INVENTOR. 4277/08 c. seesoesq United States. Patent Oifice 3,524,583 Patented Aug. 18, 19 70 US. Cl. 229-87 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Anti-slip band means for a wrapper or a container for a pack of cigarettes or a pack of cigars in which the inside wrapper disposed in a container is provided with a substantially horizontally extending anti-skid band secured thereto so as to prevent the goods or the cigarettes within the wrapper from slipping or sliding around. Antislip band means are further provided on the outside cellophane wrapper of a cigarette pack or a cigar wrapper and the like so as to prevent the pack from slipping or sliding when it is disposed within the pocket of a person.
The present invention relates to anti-slip band means and more particularly to a wrapper or a container in which is disposed a plurality of goods so as to prevent the goods from slipping within the wrapper and to prevent the wrapper from slipping when it is disposed within a pocket of a party.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an anti-slip band on the interior surface of a cellophane wrapper for a pack of cigarettes and the like, which wrapper is generally disposed on the inside of the container in which the cigarettes are disposed.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an anti-slip band that is disposed on the outer surface of a cellophane wrapper disposed around the outside of a cigarette pack so as to prevent the cigarette pack from slipping and sliding when it is disposed within the pocket of a person.
It is still another object of the present invention to pro vide a thin, plastic, cellophane wrapper with a thin coating of anti-skid material, such as foam rubber, cellulose or any other suitable material in order to act as a non-slip, retarding surface against the inside of a shirt pocket, and also to provide a non-slip surface on a cellophane wrapper that is disposed within a cigarette pack and the like in order to retard the movement of a plurality of cigarettes within the wrapper.
It is still a further object of the present invention to provide a plastic or cellophane wrapper having a slick surface with a coating or a strip of anti-skid material to provide a non-slip surface for said plastic or cellophane wrapper.
It is still a further object of the present invention to provide a cellophane wrapper or other wrapper of rather slippery material with a retarding surface such as a transversely extending band of sandy or gritty material to act as a non-skid surface or a high friction surface for the wrapper.
Various other objects and advantages of the present invention will be readily apparent from the following detailed description, when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part thereof, and in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a plastic or cellophane wrapper for a pack of cigarettes with the anti-skid means disposed on its interior surface;
FIG. 2 is a view of the wrapper shown in FIG. 1 when it is in a blank form and before it is formed into the configuration for positioning within a cigarette pack;
FIG. 3 is a section taken along the lines 3-3 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 illustrates a plastic or cellophane wrapper disposed around the outside of a pack of cigarettes with the anti-skid band means embodied in the present invention disposed thereon;
FIG. 5 is a view of the wrapper shown in FIG. 4 when it is in a blankform and before it is formed into the boxlike configuration in which cigarettes are disposed; and
FIG. 6 is an illustration of a wrapper for a cigar with a band of anti-skid means disposed thereon.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 10 generally designates a plastic or cellophane or other moisture-proof material of substantially rectangular configuration that is formed into an inside wrapper indicated at 12 for holding a pack of cigarettes therein. The blank 10 has fold lines or lines of demarcation disposed therein so as to provide a front 14 and a back 16 and side walls 18 and 20 and a top 22 and a bottom 24 for the wrapper or pack 12.
The blank 10 is provided with a substantially rectangular strip of anti-skid material 26. This band of anti-skid material 26 may be made of a thin coating of foam rubber, cellulose or other suitable material which acts as a non-slip, retarding surface against the surface of another material which is placed adjacent thereto.
Referring to FIG. 1, it will be seen that the strip of material 26 is disposed adjacent the upper portion of the interior surface of the wrapper or pack 12 and extends completely therearound on the interior so that a plurality of cigarettes, as best seen in FIG. 3, and indicated as 28, will not slip around or tend to spill from the cigarette pack when disposed therein. The strip of material 26 may be secured to the wrapperby any well known means such as adhesive or a self-adhering adhesive or other desirable means. The strip of material 26 can be made of any type of retarding surface or high friction surface including foam rubber, plastics, nylon, Fiberglas, synthetics, sand, cotton, wood, glass, Styfoam or metallic material, or other sandy or gritty material which acts as a scratching agent, similar to fine sandpaper to catch Or adhere to the surface of another object or fabric or fiber that is placed adjacent thereto.
It is further to be noted that this wrapper 12 and its retarder strip 26 can be used with present wrapping processes for cigarettes and the cigars and the like without requiring the changing of the processes, and it will not materially increase the weight of the pack to any measurable degree.
Referring to the cellophane or plastic or slippery piece of material 30, shown in FIG. 4, this is formed from a fiat blank 32 into the wrapper or container 30 by providing lines of demarcation, as illustrated in FIG. 5, so as to form a desired front and rear, and top and bottom, and side walls, for the wrapper.
This outer wrapper of material is provided with a substantially rectangular and transversely extending anti-slip band 34 thereon. The band of material 34 is provided adjacent the lower portion of the wrapper 30 and extends a substantial distance from the bottom of the wrapper to a point just below the upper portion of the wrapper 30. This anti-slip band 34 is made of the same material as described hereinbefore so that it will catch or adhere to the fibers of the pocket cloth such as a shirt or pocket into which the pack of cigarettes is disposed.
Referring to the cigar wrapper 36 shown in FIG. 6, it will be noted that this wrapper is generally made of cellophane material and is provided with a similar anti-slip band 38 extending completely therearound, which band 38 extends approximately two-thirds of the distance of 3 the length of the cigar wrapper. It is apparent that this anti-slip band 38 will prevent the cigar from inadvertently slipping or falling out of a pocket when it is disposed therein because of the nature of the anti-slip band material 38, which will cause it to adhere to the fibers of the pocket in which it is positioned.
Thus, the present invention provides a novel and simple and economical non-slip surface for a paper Wrapper or a wrapper of other material, both inside and outside, to retard the slipping or spilling of the cigarettes from the pocket and from the open pack, as well as cigars and the like.
What is claimed is:
1. A wrapper for a pack of cigarettes, cigars, and the like, said wrapper comprising a piece of moisture-proof cellophane-like material with a relatively smooth surface, a continuous strip of material having an anti-friction surface mounted on one surface of said cellophane-like material and extending between the ends of said wrapper, said wrapper being adapted to be wrapped around an article.
2. The wrapper of claim 1 wherein said strip is mounted on the inner surface of said cellophane-like material.
3. The wrapper of claim 1 wherein said strip is made of sandpaper-like material.
4. The wrapper of claim 1 wherein said strip is made of foam rubber.
5. The wrapper of claim 1 wherein said strip is mounted on the outer surface of said cellophane-like material.
