United States Patent 3,532,221 BEAUTY OPERATORSARIERMANENT-WAVE U.S. Cl. 21160 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Superposed generally horizontal support members fixedly connected in spaced relation, the upper support member having rows of openings for receiving permanent- Wave rods carried by the lower support member, receivers in the upper support member for receiving end papers and liquids, and receptacles in the upper support member for receiving additional supplies.

CROSS-REFERENCES TO RELATED APPLICATIONS This application is a substitute application for application Ser. No. 506,023, filed Nov. 2, 1965, which application was abandoned prior to the filing of the instant application.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates generally to apparatus for beauticians, and is especially concerned with a unique construc tion of permanent-wave tray for use by beauty operators.

As is well known to those versed in the art, the permanent-waving procedure, as performed by professional beauticians, is one involving a series of different steps, each requiring different supplies and equipment. That the operation may proceed in an orderly manner, it is essential that the various supplies and equipment he quickly and easily accessible to the operator, when and in the amount required, with a minimum of effort on the operators part, and that the materials be available at the desired and most convenient location.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, it is an important object of the present invention to provide a beauty operators permanent-wave tray which advantageously presents to the operator, all the materials, supplies and equipment required by the operator, in a most convenient and easily accessible manner, so that the permanent-waving operation may proceed in a highly expeditious and eflicient manner.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a beauticians permanent-wave tray having the advantageous characteristics mentioned in the preceding paragraph, which is extremely simple in construction, durable and reliable throughout a long useful life, and which can be economically manufactured for sale at a reasonable prrce.

Other objects of the present invention will become ap parent upon reading the following specification and referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a material part of this disclosure.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangements of parts, which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope will be indicated by the appended claims.

FIG. 2 is a rear elevational view of the tray of FIG. 1, taken generally along the line 22 thereof, and illustrating in phantom certain supplies and equipment in position on the tray; and FIG. 3 is a rear elevational view similar to FIG. 2, but illustrating a slightly modified embodiment of beauty operators permanent-wave tray constructed in accordance with the teachings of the present invention.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now more particularly to the drawings, and specifically to FIGS. 1 and 2 thereof, a tray is there generally designated 10, and includes a plurality of generally congruent, superposed support members 11, 12 and 13. The support members 11, 12 and 13 may each be of generally flat, platelike construction, of substantially congruent generally rectangular configuration, and arranged in superposed relation with respect to each other.

The upper support member 11 is spaced over the intermediate support member 12, and fixedly secured to the latter in its spaced superposed relation by a plurality of spacer members 14, each fixedly secured between one adjacent pair of corners of the respective upper and intermediate support members.

The lower support member 13 is fixedly spaced below the intermediate support member 12 by similar spacers 15, each interposed between and fixedly secured to an adjacent pair of corners of the superposed intermediate and lower support members. Any suitable securing means may be employed to fasten the spacers 14 and 15 to the support members 11, 12 and 13.

The intermediate support member 12 and lower support member 13 may be generally imperforate, the latter serving as a support for auxiliary supplies, such as towels, as at 17 in FIG. 2, and other supplies.

The upper support member 11 may extend longitudinally, as between front and rear side edges 18 and 19, terminating at opposite end edges 20 and 21. While the support members 11, 12 and 13 may all be of generally rectangular configuration, the provision of rounded corners may be desirable for safety and sanitation.

Provided in a relatively large, generally rectangular area 22, of the upper support member 11, at the corner between side edge 18 and end edge 21, there are a series of rows of openings through the upper support member. The area 22 of the upper support member 11 is generally rectangular, occupying a major portion of the upper support member, located in the corner at the juncture of front edge 18 and end edge 21, and extending toward but terminating short of rear edge 19 and end edge 20'.

More particularly, adjacent to but spaced inward from end edge 20 there is formed in upper support member 11 a row of thru openings or holes 24, which row extends generally parallel to the end edge 20. In practice, the thru openings 24 may be seven in number, the row thereof extending from the front edge 18 toward and terminating short of the rear edge 19. A similar row of thru openings 25, which may also be seven in number, is formed adjacent to and extending along the row of thru openings 24, on the side thereof remote from end edge 20. The openings 24 and 25 may be generally circular and of relatively small diameter.

Extending along the row of openings 25 is an additional row of openings 26, which openings may be of larger diameter, and also seven in number. Along the row of openings 26 there may be an additional row of similar openings 27, and still an additional row of openings 28 along the row of openings 27. The rows of openings 27 and 28 may also each include seven openings. Adjacent to the row of openings 28 may be an additional row of openings 29, which may be six in number; and, there are additional rows of openings 30, 31, 32 and 33, each adjacent to each other, the latter extending along and adjacent to the end edge 21. By this arrangement, the rows of openings 24-33 occupy the generally rectangular uppersupport-member area 22.

In the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, each of the openings 24-33 is provided therein with an open-ended tube or sleeve extending generally vertically through the respective opening and projecting above and below the upper support member. More particularly, the openings 24 are each provided with an upstanding open-ended tube or sleeve 34, and the openings 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33 each respectively provided with upstanding, open-ended tubes or sleeves 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 and 43. The thru openings 24-33 and their respective sleeves 34-43 are each adapted to receive and retain therein a permanent-wave curlholder or rod (not shown) with the rods having their lower ends supported on the intermediate support member 12 and projecting upward through and beyond the respective retaining tube, for convenient removal therefrom by an operator. The curl rods are of different sizes, the smaller ones being freely engageable in the smaller tubes or sleeves 24 and 25, and the larger rods being engageable in the larger tubes or sleeves.

On one side of the area 22 of upper support member 11, between the openings 24 and end edge 20, there is provided a series of receivers for holding supplies, such as a wave-lotion bottle 45 in FIG. 2. The supply receivers are defined by a row of generally rectangular openings or cutouts 46, 47 and 48 formed in the upper support member. In particular, adjacent to the front side edge 18, there may be located the relatively large, generally rectangular cutout or receiver 46 configured to hold a pad of end papers for application to the hair. Adjacent to and rearward of the receiver 46, the cutout or receiver 47 may also be of generally rectangular configuration, as for holding a bottle of cold-waving lotion. Adjacent to and rearward of the receiver 47 may be the cutout or receiver 48, configured to receive a bottle of neutralizer.

Arranged along the rear side of the area 22, between the latter and the rear edge 19 of the upper support member 11, are a series of receptacles for additional permanent-waving equipment. In particular, a receptacle 50 is located adjacent to the end edge 20 and may include an open-ended tube or sleeve of relatively small diameter and extending vertically through the upper support member 11, as for removably receiving a rattail comb 49, see FIG. 2. Adjacent to the receptacle tube 50 there may be provided an additional open-ended receptacle tube 51 extending vertically through the upper support member 11, which tube is of an elongate cross-sectional configuration, as for removably retaining a wide comb with its lower end resting on the intermediate support member 12.

An additional pair of open-ended receptacle tubes 52 and 53 extend through the upper support member 11, longitudinally inward of the receptacle tube 51, the receptacle tubes 52 and 53 being configured to removably retain a pair of scissors, as at 54 and 55, respectively, see FIG. 2. The tubular scissors receptacles may depend to the intermediate support member 12 and be provided at their lower ends with suitably yieldable protectors for the scissors points.

Adjacent to the scissors receptacle 53, along the rear upper-support-member edge 19, the upper support member may be formed with a thru opening 57 of generally rectangular configuration removably receiving a conformably shaped dished receptacle 58 for holding a quantity of hair clips, An additional opening 59 is provided in the upper support member 11, between the opening 57 and end edge 21, and conformably receives a removable dished receptacle 60 which is adapted to hold a roll of cotton or other suitable material for application about the hairline to absorb excess lotion and protect the face.

At opposite ends of the tray 10, say projecting oppositely outward from end edges 20 and 21 of the upper support member 11, there may be provided suitable handgrip means, such as handles 62. By this means, convenient portability is afforded to the tray 10, enabling the assembly to be conveniently moved about and placed where desired. I

In the embodiment of FIG. 3 there is illustrated a slightly modified tray 1011 having a plurality of upper, intermediate and lower support members 11a, 12a and 13a suitably secured together in fixed, spaced superposed relation by spacer means 14a and 15a.

The embodiment of tray 10a may be essentially similar to that of tray 10, except that the tubes or sleeves 34-43 are omitted, and beneath each of the thru openings or holes 24-33 there is provided a pin or dowel upstanding from the intermediate support member 12a for engagement in hollow curler rods, as at 65 in FIG. 3. More particularly, the upper support member 11a of tray 10a is provided with a row of thru openings 24a, and beneath each of said openings, upstanding from the intermediate support member 12a, there is a pin or dowel 66. Similarly, beneath each opening 25a through upper support member 11a, there is located a pin or dowel 67 upstanding from the intermediate support member 12a, and a series of pins or dowels 68 upstands from the intermediate support member 12a beneath each respective thru opening 28a. Additional rows of upstanding pins or dowels 69, 70, 71, 72 and 73 upstand beneath the additional thru openingsof the upper support member.

Thus, in use of curl rods 65 of the internally hollow, open-ended type, the tubes or sleeves 34-43 may be eliminated, and there may be provided upstanding pins or dowels 66-73 which serve the purpose of maintaining the curl rods in upstanding, readily removable and replaceable condition with respect to the tray.

From the foregoing, it is seen that the present invention provides a beauty operators permanent-wave tray which fully accomplishes its intended objects and is well adapted to meet practical conditions of manufacture and use.

Although the present invention has been described in some detail by way of illustration and example for purposes of clarity of understanding, it is understood that certain changes and modifications may be made within the spirit of the invention and scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A beauty operators permanent-wave tray comprising a first generally horizontal support member, a second generally horizontal support member spaced beneath said first support member, spacer means fixedly connecting said support members in their superposed relation, said first support member being provided in one area thereof with a plurality of rows of thru openings for receiving upstanding permanent-wave rods carried by said second support member, a group of receivers in said first support member on one side of said one area for receiving end papers and permanent-wave liquids, a group of receptacles in said first support member on another side of said one area for receiving additional permanent-wave supplies and utensils, a third generally horizontal support member spaced beneath said second support member for carrying additional supplies, and additional spacer means for fixedly connecting said second and third members in their spaced relation, the entire surface area of said second and third support members being imperforate.

A beauty operators permanent-wave tray according to claim 1, said support members each being of generally rectangular congruent configuration, said one area being of generally rectangular configuration located in one corner of and occupying a major portion of said first support 5 6 member, and said groups of receivers and receptacles References Cited, being located in adjacent sides of said one area.
