Description

Oct. 27, 1970 I I R. M. BENN 3,535,747
I DETAC I'IABLE INTERCHANGEABLE CUFF LINKS v Filed July 29, 1968 United States Patent 3,535,747 DETACHABLE INTERCHANGEABLE CUFF LINKS Robert M. Benn, 255 E. th St., North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Filed July 29, 1968, Ser. No. 748,483 Int. Cl. A44b 5/02 U.S. Cl. 24--41 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved cuff link construction comprised of a link post and interchangeable decorative heads which are selectively securable to the link post so that different heads may be worn upon the link post to harmonize with various attire.
This invention relates generally to cuff links used for securing the ends of a cufi together.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a cuff link construction wherein a decorative head is interchangeably attachable upon a link post so to allow wearing different designs to suit a particular attire.
Another object is to provide a detachable interchangeable cuff link wherein the link post is removably securable to an interchangeable head by any of various mechanical means such as by an interhooking hook, snap fastener, screw thread magnetic attraction or any other well-known connection.
Yet another object is to provide a detachable interchangeable cuff link which could be retailed in a set comprised of a pair of link posts and an assortment of various pairs of decorative heads.
Other objects are to provide a detachable interchangeable cuff link which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is an exploded view of the parts comprising one cuff link assembly.
FIG. 2 is a side view thereof in cross section shown assembled.
FIG. 3 is a bottom view of a modified form of the invention.
FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view taken on line 4-4 of FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a bottom perspective view of a further modified head.
FIG. 6 is a cross sectional view taken on line 6-6 of FIG. 5.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral 10 represents a detachable interchangeable cuff link according to the present invention wherein there are a series of interchangeable heads 11 selectively securable to a link post 12.
In FIGS. 1 and 2, a head 11 is shown having a spring clip 13 secured by rivets 14 to the underside 15 thereof.
3,535,747 Patented Oct. 27, 1970 The link post 12 has a corresponding slot 16 near the upper end to receive the spring clip.
In operative use, to interchange heads, the spring clip is simply slipped out of the slot and another head having a like spring clip is then secured similarly to the clip post.
While the drawing illustrates a cuff post of T-shape, it is understood that the invention applies also to cuff posts having pivotable cross arms attached to central posts.
In a modified construction shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 the head 17 includes a spring clip 18 privota-ble sidewardly about a rivet 19 so that a downturned end 20 of the clip can be snapped into a depression 21 on the underside 22 of the head, and thus be out of the way from accidently hooking on some other object when being worn on a cuff.
In FIGS. 5 and 6 another modified construction is shown wherein the head 23 has a longitudinally slidable spring clip 24 on the underside 25 thereof, the clip having a longitudinal slot 26 receiving rivets 27 secured to the head. The clip has an upturned end 28 that slips into a depression 29 on the underside 25 of the head so to be out of the way from accidently hooking on another object.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
v 1. In a detachable interchangeable cuff link the combination of a link post and a removably attachable head, said head having a spring clip secured to the underside thereof, and said link post having a corresponding slot transversely therethrough near one end of said post for receiving said spring clip.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said spring clip is sidewardly pivotable about a rivet, said clip having an upwardly turned end which is receivable within a depression on the underside of said head.
3. The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said spring clip has a longitudinal slot therethrough, said clip being slidably mounted on a pair of rivets secured to said head and fitted into said slot, and said spring clip having an upturned end receivable into a depression on the underside of said head.
