Machado Attorney-Young & Thompson 1 LADPER P Q ABSTRACT: A device for attachment to ladders which will 4 Clams 2 Drawmg give the painter or other user a solid smooth surface to stand [52] mg ("I 182/121 on. This device may be also used with a second one of similar [5 1] 1m. LADDER SCAFFOLD This invention relates to supporting devices, and more particularly to a scaffold attachment for ladders.
It is therefore the main purpose-of this invention to provide a ladder scaffold which will be approximately two-thirds the width of the ladder and will provide solid support for a user's feet, allowing the user to be more comfortable than when standing upon the rung of the ladder.
Another object of this invention is to provide a ladder scaffold which will be of such construction as to remain stationary upon one rung through the use of support means embracing an upper rung thus rendering the devicestationary at any elevation upon the ladder it is being used upon.
A further object of this invention is to provide a scaffold of the above described type which will also have a hook member at one side which will hookingly engage the upper rung above the face rung supporting the device in order that the device will not be disturbed when moving the ladder and the device extends partially across the ladder in order to allow the user to pass while moving up and down the ladder without interference with the scaffold or scaffolds in the event that the user also uses a second scaffold for the placement of paint or other devices thereupon.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a ladder scaffold which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
-FIG.-I is a side view of the present invention; and FIG. 2 is an enlarged front view of the device shown in elevation and removed from FIG. 1.
According to this invention, a ladder scaffold is provided with a horizontal rectangular plate 11 made of aluminum or other suitable material. To the underside of plate 11 is secured' a pair of parallel spaced apart bar members 12 which extend the length of plate 1 l. A ladder rung 13 is positioned between bar members 12 and bar members 12 prevent lateral movement of plate 11. To the top of plate. 11 is fixedly secured a vertical plate 14 of "rectangular configuration which is strengthened by means of a gusset 15.
A horizontal bar member 16 is secured to one side of plate 14 and provides stop means against the upper adjacent ladder rung 13. A pin 17 extends from one side of plate 14 and supports a pivotable S-shaped hook 18 having ball-shaped pins 19. When rotated so that one end encircles ladder rung 13, hook 18 serves to prevent the dislocation of scaffold 10 when ladder 20 is moved from place to place.
The ball-shaped ends 19 of hook l8'prevent hook 18 from snagging against clothing and the like.
Scaffold 10 is placed so that a rung 13 is positioned between the bar members 12 and the bar member 16 of the vertical plate 14 of scaffold 10 is positioned against the upper adjacent rung 13, the upper portion of plate 14 resting against the back of the rung 13 against which bar member 16 rests. This arrangement provides a rugged and stationary scaffold 10 upon which the user may stand.
If desirable, a second scaffold 10 may be used above the first upon similar rungs 13 in order to support cans of paint and the like.
lclaim:
l. A ladder scaffold for attachment to ladders, comprising a horizontal plate, a pair of spaced-apart bars carried on the underside of said plate to receive a ladder rung between them, a vertical plate rigidly secured to and upstanding from the rear of said horizontal plate, an upper horizontal bar carried by the forward side of said vertical plate adjacent the upper end thereof for bearing against the underside of a ladder rung immediately above the rung disposed between said pair of bars, and hook means swingably mounted on said vertical plate and swingable over the rung against the underside of which said upper bar bears so as to prevent misalignment of the scaffold when the ladder is moved from place to place.
2. A ladder scaffold as claimed in claim 1, said vertical plate being spaced a short distance forward from the rear edge of said horizontal plate, and upright gusset means rigidly interconnecting the rear of said vertical plate and the upper side of said horizontal plate to the rear of said vertical plate.
3. A ladder scaffold as claimed in claim 1, said hook means being S-shaped and being pivotally mounted on said vertical plate for vertical swinging movement about a horizontal axis disposed midway between the length of the S-shaped hook means.
4. A ladder scaffold as claimed in claim 1, the horizontal platform extending farther forwardly of said pair of bars than rearwardly of said pair of bars.

Claims (4)
