Claims (4)

  1. 2. The combination defined in claim 1 in which said lift member means comprises horizontally extending rails provided at the sides of the zone in a position in which they do not interfere with movement of a loaded rack out of the zone; and vertically extending lift arm means is provided on an overhead portion of said frame means for raising said rails to engage and lift the rack.
  2. 3. The combination defined in claim 2 in which said rails extend transversely to the path of loading travel of said pusher means; and means is operative to move a rack transversely forwardly into said zone and remove it transversely forwardly from said zone, before and after loading of said rack respectively.
  3. 4. Apparatus for loading products such as bread loaves in containers into a rack in a rack loading zone with vertically spaced shelf strip means for supporting the containers between them comprising: frame means; means defining a rack loading zone at one end thereof for an oblong rack having opposed side surfaces and opposed end surfaces; an elevator mechanism adjacent the rack loading zone having vertically spaced shelf means vertically spaced to correlate with the shelf strip means of the rack; means for indexing the shelf means of the elevator upwardly; pusher means extending vertically alongside the shelf means of the elevator on the side thereof opposite a rack to be loaded and vertically spanning a plurality of vertically spaced shelf means; means for feeding containers to successive shelf means of said elevator mechanism after indexing movement thereof; means moving said pusher means through said elevator and over to said rack to be loaded to move the containers simultaneously from the shelf means of the elevator to the shelf strip means of the rack to be loaded; clamps supported on said frame means around the loading zone movable from a position out of engagement with a rack in the zone to a position to exert opposing inward forces on the said side and end surfaces of the rack to ''''square'''' the rack; and means synchronized to move the clamps to engage and ''''square'''' the rack prior to the time the means for operating the pusher means to load the rack is actuated.
  4. 5. The combination defined in claim 4 in which vertically disposed rotatable shafts are disposed at the four corners of the loading zone and said clamps comprise rack engaging clamp arms thereon swingable to and from rack ''''squaring'''' position; and operating means revolves said shafts to clamp the corners of the rack in the zone and then release said arms to a position in which they do not interfere with movement of the rack out of the zone, when a rack has been loaded.
